Kiera Hayze was a girl of simple nature, in a complicated world. All she really wanted was to swim and swim until she couldn't see the rest of the civilized world. As far as Kiera was concerned, her life was perfect. She had great family, friends and was in her seventh year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The little blonde Hufflepuff was having the time of her life, and had been since she first stepped foot on the Castle's Grounds. Kiera was a bright and bubbly girl that managed a smile at just about everything that came into her path. Most people she knew were her friends, and she had quite a few very close friends. Aria Chandler was her best friend on the planet, and had been for ages. They knew each other too well and had the best time whenever around each other. Another one of her best friends was Flower Hope Phillips. Hope was a year younger than her, also a Puff. They got along exceptionally well, having similar personalities. Those two were great, but none knew her in the exact way that Ace Jaredson did.
Acey was her male best friend, the person that made her happy no matter what time of the day it was. The two had become best friends out of no where, Kiera could not even recall their meeting, probably at a party. Ace liked to go to parties, sometimes letting Kiera tag along, but for the most part it just wasn't her thing. He was the only boy that Kiera ever really socialized with, and she had come to love him. Although she wasn't really up for admitting it, Kiera really did love Ace. Everybody except for Kiera and Ace could see it, too. Not only was she in denial about the whole deal, but truthfully she didn't realize it. Being around him was so easy, just like breathing. It came to be a natural thing, laughing with him. But lately, the little voice in her head that told her there was something more between them, had been growing a little louder every day. Now it took more for Kiera to shut it out. But Ace had decided that he liked a new girl, a girl named Nani that Kiera knew, and one of the few people Kiera didn't care for to say the least. But whatever. As long as Ace was happy.
That particular day, the sun was high in the sky, probably about noon, ion a sunny Saturday afternoon, Kiera had taken refuge in the library, holing herself up with stupid homework. And so she sat, surrounded by books, irritated and hot. She ran a hand through her thick blonde hair with a sigh, wishing that all of it would be done already, and leaned back against the tall oak bookshelf. The silence there was deafening, and Kiera hated it.
