Rose walked onto the grounds and breathed deeply. She was home. After spending yet another summer bouncing around on the run, she was so happy to be back. And at the end of last term, Rose had been so sure she wouldn't need this place. She would be fine without it, it meant nothing to her. Now, she wasn't sure what she would do without it. But it did feel so good to be back. Rose noticed something as she kept walking. Whenever she returned to Beauxbatons, she never quite had this feeling. It had never felt so good. Rose was happy and excited to return, rather than pissed off or indifferent. This was a place she actually wanted to be at. Rose thought back to find happy memories of Hogwarts. She found plenty, but unfortuantely, none that were very recent. And that had nothing to do with the fact that summer had just ended. But Rose would make more good memories this year. Her and Maddy would make everything of their last year at school. Rose and John would have a few things to work out too before the end of this year. She had no idea how things were going to go with him, and this was the first time she was ever so unsure in a long time. She couldn't say it felt good, for being unsure usually leads to fear and uncertainty, and neither were anyone's favorite emotions. But fear was one of the last things the Gryffindor was experiencing at the moment. Rose began to wonder what she would do this year. Most of the people she knew and had been friends with were seventh years, and graduated last year. Rose and Maddy didn't because of... Well, a little unconventional trick they pulled. It was their so-called "senior-itis." But those two devious minds had gotten themselves into hot water last year, and were now getting an extra year to spend at Hogwarts. Not that Rose minded. She was quite happy. Although it would delay her her search for her sister. Rose suddenly found herself wondering if Maddy was happy about the extra year. She might not feel the same way as Rose did. She hoped that Maddy wasn't bitter, that wouldn't make their last year any fun. She would be miserable, and Rose did not want to see that happen. But why would Maddy be bitter? She and Rose usually thought along the same lines. If Rose was happy about it, it was more than likely that Maddy felt the same way. There shouldn't be anything to worry about. She finally came up on the oh-so-beautiful entrance to the school. Rose glanced at the castle and at the grounds, taking it all in. She was home...

Madelyn Taylor stepped off the train; the warm late-summer breeze blew through her now blonde hair. Yes, Maddy had done the impossible, dying her hair blonde. It wasn’t going to stay that way for long though, she would probably dye it back to the normal chocolate colored brown within the next few weeks. The girl slung her knapsack over her shoulder and walked forward, stepping into her eighth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Maddy wasn’t sure how she felt about being at Hogwarts for an extra year. She was mostly worried about how the whole ‘repeating a year’ thing would look on her permanent record. Probably not too good. But, nonetheless, it was worth it. This school held all of her memories and secrets; almost everything that she had ever known was here. Battles were won and lost here and this girl was part of them all. She had fought with all her heart to save the castle in her sixth year alongside Rose.

As the thought of Rose crossed her mind, Madelyn wondered where her best friend was. The two of them have sat on the Hogwarts Express together ever since Rose transferred. Maddy was late getting to the train again, making it on just before it took off. But that was the usual for the girl. Lateness was classy; except for the fact that she was half hung-over from the party she was at the night before. Rose was there, so the girl wondered how her friend was holding up. Brendan was a whole other story. He had graduated, unlike Maddy and she didn’t know how it was going to work out. In fact, she hadn’t seen him in quite a long time. She would send him an owl as soon as she got up to the dormitory.

Madelyn heard her name being spoken loud and clear in a voice that was oh so familiar to her. It was Rose’s. She looked around through the crowds of students, but her blue eyes never caught sight of that mop of blonde hair. Maddy figured that it was her mind, once again, picking up signals from her friend’s thoughts. She truly hated when that happened, but she had never come to learn how to stop it from happening. Madelyn caught sight of her friend out of the corner of her eye. “Watch your back!” she pushed her thoughts into her friend’s mind. Maddy ran at Rose and jumped on her.

Rose fell back a little as some extra weight was added to her legs out of nowhere. It could only be one person: Maddy. Rose laughed and turned to face her best friend. "Usually I like to be wined and dined before I'm screwed, love. But for you, I'll make an exception." She said sarcastically before pulling Maddy into the biggest hug she could muster up at the moment. It was so good to be reunited. The summer had taken so much out of Rose, it had been exhausting. She couldn't stay with Maddy all summer of course, because the Death Eaters would expect that from her. So she had to keep moving and be on her toes, and make sure her loyal friend stayed home instead of following her around England and other such places in the United Kingdom. But now she was safe, at least to an extent. She didn't have to run at the moment, she could take a break. And boy did that feel nice. Rose had always wanted to see all of England, but never under those circumstances. She had always imagined doing it with her husband and children, and her sister's husband and children. But neither were going to happen anytime soon. Rose took a deep sigh and wondered whether or not she would ever be fortunate enough to find someone she would want to marry and have kids with. Would she ever get the chance? Yeah, sure, at the moment, she sort of had John, but at the same time, she didn't. Rose had no idea how that was going to work. She felt like there was something other than authorities keeping them apart, but she couldn’t be sure. Not until she saw him. She didn’t even know when that would be. It was going to take a while for her to get settled in and get all her things together for classes and everything. Well, when she saw him, she saw him. Rose made sure she didn’t worry about that right now. Right now, she was going to focus on the moment. Right now she is home with her best friend, and that’s all that matters. ”So how were the last two weeks of your summer, considering I didn’t hear from you.”

Madelyn Taylor sprinted toward her friend. Her backpack bobbled along behind her, not slowing her down one bit. The girl flung her arms and legs around her friend, clinging to her like a child clings to their father’s leg. Maddy laughed when her friend made the comment about her exception. “Pssh. Wined and dined? If they’re hot enough, they can have a VIP pass to my pants.” The corners of her mouth lifted into a full grin.

Madelyn spent a majority of her summer chilling with Rose, but for the last two weeks they had to separate. Maddy had caught people snooping around her house a couple of times and it just wasn’t safe for her friend, wanted by the Death Eaters, to stick around for too long. Of course, the girl had seen their thoughts and they were quite gruesome. She had wanted desperately to accompany Rose, but with the amount of Death Eaters sneaking around her house, it was best that she stay home and try her best to throw them off course. She had had quite a lot of fun playing with the minds of the enemy, pushing false ideas into their heads. The girl had given them hints to many different locations, none of which were where Rose was staying.

“Oh, well, the last two weeks were probably the same as the rest of my summer. Soccer all day, clubbing all night and saving your ass from the Death Eaters. You know how I roll,” Madelyn winked at Rose. That was basically her summer vacation in a nutshell. Every summer since first year, the girl had gone back to Cheshire to play for the soccer team that had been together since they could walk. Clubbing, well, that was quite an adventure because she was finally legal. Maddy hadn’t consumed as much alcohol in her lifetime as she did this past summer. It was wonderful, except for waking up in new places; that was a bit confusing. She had woken up in the most awkward situations, especially when the guys that she banged expected her to stay around. Eighteen and free as the wind, that was how Madelyn was going to play it. She pushed headshots of the guys that she hooked up with in bars into her friend’s mind, hoping for some kind of approval. She thought she had done awfully well with her choice of men this summer. One, two, three, four…she flashed the images through Rose’s mind. “Sexy, right?” Maddy hopped off of her friend and adjusted the strap of her backpack on her shoulder.

The pictures ran through Rose's mind quick, but she caught quite a few of them. Were they sexy? Oh of course they were; she would expect nothing less from Maddy. But what sacred her a little bit was that Maddy was becoming like Rose was before Rose had come to Hogwarts. That was how Rose and Kat became enemies. She had slept with Kat's boyfriend without even knowing, and she was so intoxicated at the time. She used to do a lot of that... But now, it seemed like she didn't have time for hookups. I need to get back on my game... Maddy got all of those guys in two weeks? That was a bit surprising. Although, Rose could never say anything, she had gotten Maddy started on all of that. Maddy had been like that before, but this was beating her (Maddy's) record. Rose turned her to being an overachiever, if that was a way to put it. Well, her and Maddy would have to go out soon and get Rose back out there. And as soon as she thought of going back out there, a face flashed in her mind. John... He wouldn't approve... Well, what did it matter to her? She was young, and had time before she really wanted to stick to the right guy, and he couldn't stop her. She pushed the image out of her mind, and remembered what partying used to be like. Oh, it was fun. Nowadays, it seemed more dangerous than fun, at least around Hogwarts. So they would have to play it safe. "Very sexy... I'm quite jealous actually. You got much more ass than I did this summer, you even got mine. Execept you were helping to save mine, not kiss it." Rose winked at her best friend. She owed Maddy so much for what she had done this summer. She put herself in harms way just to help keep Rose safe. That was one of the reasons why Rose left for the last two weeks. Things were getting a little too risky, no matter how good Maddy was at screwing around with the Death Eaters minds. Rose couldn't let her friend get hurt for her.

Madelyn heard Rose’s thoughts loud and crystal clear, causing the girl to chuckle. “Damn straight you do. You’re slacking!” she squinted her eyes at her friend and whispered, “You slacker.” The girl broke into a little fit of laughter and released her bear hug, plopping down to the ground. She definitely did well this summer when it came to guys. She had them all wrapped around her finger and begging for more and that’s exactly how she liked it. Sure, Maddy was quite a tease, but that made everything all the more fun.

Guilt flashed across her mind, it seemed to stab her in the heart actually. Brendan. Fuck. Truthfully she had forgotten about him, which was really bad. Technically they broke up toward the end of last semester, kind of. It was one of those non-verbal breakups, where both people accept that they have to go their separate ways. Madelyn was staying in school while Brendan had probably gone and graduated, found a job and all of that fun stuff. A guy like him probably couldn’t go a week without some hornball slut creeping all over him. The thought of that sent chills down her spine. She shivered slightly, but then bounced back up off the floor, pushing the thoughts to the back of her mind.

“That’s just in the past two weeks. You should see the guys that I got after the World Cup games. I was watching the games at a frat house with the guys varsity soccer team. It was quite exciting. I got so much ass that a toilet would be jealous. Let’s just say that group had way better stamina than any other guys I’ve hooked up with.” Yep. It was all true. After every World Cup game was a new adventure for the girl. She had never partied so hard in her life and she wouldn’t be surprised if she had an everlasting hangover because of it. “And no problem about the DEs. You’re covered for the semester. They think you’re running around France with your sister.”

Rose laughed as Maddy called her a slacker. Well, it wasn't exactly false... She had been slacking off, but the two of them would fix that. But Rose didn't need Maddy's abilities to know what she was thinking next. The look on her face showed it all. She felt guilty, and Rose knew why. Because of Brendan. Rose knew that deep inside her, Maddy still had feelings for him. He had been so good to her, Rose had wished that they would have stayed together, but she guessed that things just got too complicated. Rose never truly found out why they broke up, but now was definetly not the time to ask. She knew she should leave well enough alone at the moment. And her comment about the toilet seat just grossed Rose out. "A toilet seat? Really? That's disgusting. You could make a much better analogy." Rose laughed and made a "bleh" sort of noise, something her friend called a "Ke$ha noise" because it reminded her of some American singer. Rose didn't know much about American culture, she had no idea. She knew more about French and British pop culture. For good reason, obviously. Although for the past three years, Rose wouldn't be up to speed on French pop culture, considering she really hadn't been there. Her past three years have been spent in England, and her summer spent in various places. She had no time to pay attention to what fad was around. Not that she was ever really into fads, it just wasn't her style. And if the DE's thought she was running around France with her sister, than that was good. So long as they didn't come back to Hogwarts. Rose didn't think they would think she would be stupid enough, which is exactly why she did it. They would think she would be too smart for that, so they wouldn't look there. "Thanks so much. I really appreciate your help." She said and smiled at her best friend. It was good to be back.
