The return to school was as uneventful as it had always been for Alexander. He made his way through the first couple of days greeting old friends, watching the faces of new people, and finding his classes to be much the same as always. His interest level was waning, and soon he found his lids drifting low as he dozed off. A strike on his desk brought him awake with a sharp jump. His books flew from the wood and dropped to the feet of his teacher. Alexander looked up offering a small grin, but it was obvious he had been caught sleeping in class again. It was not really something he had done often, but often enough to find himself in trouble. He felt that the teacher took it as a personal insult that Alexander might drift off during a lecture. As if it was something that never happened in the past, but as it were Alexander was given his first official detention of the new year.
As he trudged through the long halls to make his way to the dungeons, Alexander could not help feel a little irritated that he would be given a detention. He was now an adult, after all. This seemed not to hold much water for his teachers. This was something that was reminded fresh in his mind as he turned the corner and saw the open door to what should have been an empty classroom. Another dreary detention spent deep in the dark dungeons, and another night wasted when he would much rather be spending his time reading in the Ravenclaw tower. For all his wit and creativity, he could not come up with a reason to skip this detention. Thus, he moved through the doorway, selected his normal sit when he actually took this class, and sat down to wait for his time to start.
Alexander imagined that he would be spending the night alone with an overbearing professor. It was not until he heard the footsteps coming down the hallway that he even considered the idea of sharing a detention with some other trouble maker. He swallowed, and moved his head so he could peer at the door over his shoulder. He sincerely hoped that this would not lead to some sort of trouble. The last thing he needed was some snotty Slytherin coming in to make problems for him when all he wished to do was get this over with. Alexander fixed his vision on the doorway, and waited.

Ahh detention, Karma nearly forgot how amazing she was at getting it until just a few days back into term she'd already found herself facing a prefect. See, prefects seemed to have it out for her. Suppose it was the sassy attitude, the need to always express whatever spontaneous maneuver she felt like doing next. And see, teachers, she'd respect, it was the nosy little prefects that seemed to just have it out for her. Okay, so what if she was skipping class? she was tired of it. The prefect was too, but no, they don't care about that. And how did they know anyway? It wasn't like she was obvious about it, and the whole fact of the matter was that other people had free period, she wasn't the only student wandering the hall... so how'd the know? Karma was certain they were after her, and it was for slightly good reason, though. She didn't exactly always follow the rules. For good or not. She respected her elders, but if she feels a whim, she follows it wherever it takes her. She just likes to follow the wind, do what she feels like doing when she feels like doing it. whether it was skipping potions or running out into the rain.
She glanced at her watch, after finally finishing her homework and her eyes got kind of big. Oh, no. she was late....again. If she got another detention, Karma would kill herself, she hated sitting alone for that long. The only thing getting her through school was her sister and her friends. And it was in the dungeons. great. She grabbed her bag and tossed it over her shoulder as she ran out of the common room, waving at her friends on her way. Her pace quickened, because luckily she was going down the stairs and not up them. Why the heck was she rushing to a detention though? Because she hated to be late to things? She hated to disrespect teachers, despite how many of them actually deserve it. Still, there she was, flying down the multitude of stairs to get to her destination. Karma's long hair flowed behind her as she raced through the main hall to the passage to the dungeons. She'd make it, she knew she would, so she took a breather. Wow, from the towers to the dungeons... she made good time. A small smile graced on her lips and she walked the rest of the way to her impending doom.
The room was just a few steps away and Karma was curious to see who else would be joining her. Sometimes the teachers put karma with other students just because she was so much trouble to them on her own. More annoying than anything, the girl had an ability to talk. In fact, she wasn't afraid to say anything, she was blunt, but definitely kind enough to be nice to other people. She grabbed onto the doorway and swung herself in. She noticed a particularly handsome blue-eyed boy and grinned. Karma moved over to him, recognizing him from another detention. "Ah, a friendly face," she greeted, plopping herself down next to him and dropping her bag to the floor. "you're alex right?" she could remember names pretty well, especially when the face associated was so hot. She leaned back in the chair and looked around, they were the only two in there and Karma was pretty okay with that. "so," she said, turning to him with a cute smile on her face, " what are you in for?"

theres a thunder in our hearts baby so much hate for the ones we love TAG: Karma MUSIC: Simple Minds ONE LAST THING: Is this good?
All of the breath might have raced out of him. Like a flash his wind escaped his lips like a bat leaving the bright rays of sunlight in the early morning. He tried to mentally hammer himself into breathing again, but at first he fear it simply would not come. He imagined himself turning a dark blue, gasping for air, and passing out right there on his desk as she looked on waiting for a response. Would he live past this moment? He could not help but wonder if this was going to be his final seconds on this third rock from the sun. Just when he was certain he was about to expire, Alexander sighed a breath and managed a silly grin of his own. He nodded to her as he recalled the last time they had shared time together.
Alexander was far from a trouble maker, but he often found himself getting in trouble when the boredom of class became too much for him. His mind was quick, and he often finished his work far in front of those he shared classes with. This led to him daydreaming, or dozing off. He was not rude, by no stretch of the imagination. This fact was not lost on those that taught him, but sometimes his family curse played out loudily in regularly quiet classrooms. Alexander, like most of the male members of the Maxwell and Skeeter clans, snored. It was one past sleep snort that brought him into the company of Karma Phillips. The last time they shared together was in detention, Alexander had to clean trophies for snoring in class. He had shared this with her then, much like he knew he would share with her what brought him here today. However, first, he must get past the fact that a cute girl talked to him in the first place. She was outgoing, much more so than himself. It took a little to shake him from his thoughts. At first, his only response was the nod and grin.
Finally, Alexander was able to speak. His voice was low, his eyes moving to the door expecting their tormenter to enter at any given moment. "Alexander," he offered in respond to her asking his name. He was called Alex often, but it never appealed to him. He never took a shining to nicknames, even if it was just a shorter version of his given name. He let it pass as he continued, "I am in for detention, I would imagine. Same thing really. I sort of fell asleep, and ended up knocking some books on..." He did not get to finish. A tall man had walked into the class, his pointed nose stuck high into the air. Alexander immediately clammed up, and looked down to his hands on the table in front of him. Detention, it would appear, was about to begin.

She studied the attractive boy and made a slight face, he didn't seem nervous, from what she saw. but a vibe kind of made her feel like she should back off. The thing about Karma is that she never really could interpret the 'get away' vibes. Usually she missed them completely and continued on with a conversation. If they ran away, then they did- she definitely had the power to talk to people, though. Suppose she and her sister both received that trait. Her parents both were pretty big talkers, so Karma wasn't surprised in the least. Maybe it was part that she was only a fifth year that she ended up talking a bit more than she should, she could speak herself and whoever was listening in circles all day long. It was a blessing and a curse, she's had the habit of scaring people off on occasion. She looked over at him, he may not mind like some people did. She smiled and thought of the first time she spoke to him. Yeah, well, it was interesting and apparently he left a memorable impression on the fifth year. she couldn't imagine anyone having more amazing eyes, but there was probably much more about him that would be fun for her to figure out. The shyness factor of Alexander made her smile, she found him utterly attractive, even the shyness factor.
"Alexander." Karma repeated and grinned, "I like that better than just simply Alex. I suppose it's nice to go by an extended name." she commented, just talking. Just commenting, the two things she did best besides make anyone feel important and good about themselves. It was a weird gift, but Karma's always been pretty good at it. "well, my aplogies, i'd hate to have anyone call me 'ma'" she told him, making a face of disgust. Yes, she's had people try to give her a nickname, though there's little you can draw from 'karma' besides Kar, and Ma. and neither of the appealed to the energetic fifth year. She listened to Alexander's story of what got him into the mess of this beautiful detention room, but it got interrupted by the teacher that seemed to finally want to show up. She smiled cutely and slightly innocently at the tall man and leaned back in her chair. She wanted to start talking to the teacher, maybe even to the extent of scaring him out of the room! That'd certainly be a fun goal. She pursed her lips and spoke up at the teacher. "So what'll we be doing today captain?" she asked, sitting up again and folding her arms tenderly on the desk. She wasn't being rude, merely inquiring... in Karma's way, of course.

theres a thunder in our hearts baby so much hate for the ones we love TAG: Karma MUSIC: Smashing Pumpkins ONE LAST THING: Kar or Ma or ARM?.
The next thing Alexander knew was that the conversation had been cut off, and the teacher had them writing lines. How much more boring could time be spent that to write the same thing over and over again. By the third line Alexander knew he did not want to sleep in class again, at least in the near future. He had glanced over to Karma, but could not read what lines she was being forced to write. He wanted to ask her why she was attending detention, but the eyes of the unpleasant professor were always moving up to look at the pair as they continued in silence for some time. Just when he thought his fingers were going to go as numb as his mind, the teacher got up and walked from the room. Alexander watched him shut the door behind him as he left. His fingers released the quill immediately and he rubbed his wrist with a frown. Alexander looked to his partner in crime and nudged her with one pointy elbow.
"I think we might be free for a few moments. Not sure, but I could use a break from this crap." He pushed his roll of parchment toward her to show he had written the same sentence over and over and over again. His fingers ached but seemed to go loose when he rubbed them. He moved his quill closer to the ink bottle just in case the teacher made a sudden reappearance. He did not want to cause either of them any more trouble. Alexander tried to catch the line of conversation they had shared before detention had started. He did not like to leave anything unsaid when he had the chance to talk to her. They did not know each other well, but he did like her. She had this way of making him feel good about himself, even if she really did not say much about him. He liked the way he felt when he was around her, even when the only time he was actually around her was in detention. That might sound strange to other people, but for Alexander it seemed completely normal. He was not exactly a normal person. He grinned to her.
"I could call you Arm, I mean it is centered directly in your name." He regretted saying it almost as soon as the words floated from his mouth. He did not like sounding like a fool in front of a cute girl, but he always seemed to be doing exactly that. Alexander was not good around females. He tried hard to relax, and just be himself; but, he never thought of himself as being good enough for female company. Even when he found himself lucky enough to date, Alexander always was awkward, shy, and just too quiet to keep someone interested in him. Even when he was with someone who was as shy as he was -though those people were really rare. He sighed, and looked back to his parchment. "This blows, you know? You would think we could do something a little more interesting. Maybe like rearrange all the herbs in the closet?" Alexander did not consider actually doing that, but it was a funny thought.
