It was the small things he missed the most. The eager shine to her eyes, the sound of her giggle, and most of all, the warmth of her petite body as she lay in his arms. Yes, it was safe to say, Rhys still missed Lexi.
The funny thing was, it had been months since she'd dumped him. She had dumped him. Over something that hadn't even happened. A kiss, she'd said, between himself and his ex, AnaLeigh. Sure, she'd made so many advances he was surprised, even at her, but he'd denied every single one of them. Why? Rhys was madly in love with Lexi. He had been. He had just wanted her. He wanted the small things back.
He wanted the shy girl back in his arms, so he could hold her, and protect her from the cruel world. He knew how cruel, hurtful and spiteful it could be. Lexi didn't deserve anything bad to happen to her.
That's what he had believed. A lot of him still believed it. But a part of him was furious that she wouldn't believe him over her. AnaLeigh was ... AnaLeigh. If she wanted something, she'd stop at nothing to get it, regardless of who got hurt, or what happened. Rhys just happened to be the thing she wanted that time around.
Why hadn't Lexi believed him? Rhys may have been a player, but Lexi was different. She'd heard it himself. He loved her. He wasn't going to lie to her, because when you were in love, you didn't lie, you didn't cheat. And Rhys hadn't.
Summer vacation couldn't have come at a better time. Not having to face her face every day, and somehow, fate threw them together in the same room. And, somehow, she always wanted to talk about it.
Well Rhys wouldn't, and she yelled, yelled at him, in front of a girl he happened to really like. This ticked him off, big time. She had found happiness. She had a boyfriend, and he hadn't gone out with anyone since they'd broken up. He didn't want to face her. He was too angry with her to believe that he was at fault when he had not even done anything.
He needed a break, a break from making his mother a cup of tea and a break from thinking about everything life-related. He was already dressed in his favourite blue hoodie and some loose jeans. A beach, he decided, would be amazing at this point in time. With a grin, he was out of the door, and had appeared on orange.
Well, sand. The soft, sandy beaches he had once taken Lexi to. But he pushed this fact aside, and sat in the warm sand, basking in the warm suns rays, and wiggling his toes in the sand. The sun was a fierce beast that day. Rhys gave a small smile. Perhaps he was actually making some progress in getting over her, after all.
