The snow was getting heavier now, swirling down in great flurries of mass white. Watching as a single snow flake fluttered and twirled down, flying in all directions before finally coming to settle on the already 20cm thick snow covering the ground. The young woman took a few crunchy steps forward and looked behind at the deep footprints she'd left. She watched as the snow floated purposefully into the foot-shaped imprints, already beginning to refill them. She turned her attention back to what lay in front of her. Upon hearing a noise behind her, making her jump, she turned around to see a cat darting through the snow, looking nervously at the falling flakes. Its underneath was completely white. It looked as though it had been lying in the snow, but upon closer inspection, realized it was simply naturally coloured fur. Light began to creep slowly behind the tall army of trees, reflecting off the snow and making it glisten with a blinding whiteness one last time.
Adéle Odette Dior lifted her face, letting the light and shadow dance across her skin. She inhaled the delicate smell of the perfume that lingered on her and continued on, delighting in the sound of her feet sliding through the snow. Today she had woken in content, for the first time since arriving to Hogwarts this fall. Indeed, contentment had fallen upon her in such a dark and shaken time. Threat lurked outside, and dare she say also within the walls of the castle that many considered home and a place to reside for safety and protection. Students were quickly becoming frustrated and agitated with the new rules that have been strictly enforced and while the French dame had slyly slithered her way out of the castle that was slowly suffocating her, she almost felt a wave of shame for breaking the boundaries that were only set for the propose of protecting the staff and students. If ever she had been caught, wondering the winter wonderland freely, she was positive the consequences would not be something to take lightly. The very fact that one student had the ability to plot their own way out of the school, who was to say the rest weren’t doing it as well? Ruining all the reasons for the lockdown, now noting it as a failed procedure.
Many could speak fondly of Hogwarts, suggesting that it was the safest place to be in times such as these. There was only one place of safety that lingered on her mind. The little cottage that resided in the south of France, protected by fields and rivers that belonged the countryside. No evil lurked between the trees, there was no evil seen nor heard. Peace was continuous, it was lasting and for Adéle, it was where home was. It had been here in Britain that her father had been transferred to, therefore meaning that the small family had to offer their farewells to the place that consisted only of peace and sincerity. These dark times called for drastic measures, and if that meant leaving everything in France behind to increase the chances of restoring peace in Britain, her father seemed to be more than willing to take everything up and leave.
These thoughts alone caused her legs to buckle beneath her and she allowed herself to collapse on to her knees, now coming in full contact with the snow. With closed eyes, small goosebumps didn’t hesitate to appear on her bare arms, she felt the hairs on the back of her neck stand and she released a sigh. This felt real. Right now in this very moment she felt no fear, there was no need to worry and the contentment she had endured earlier that very day returned, and with its return, a smile tugged her lips.
