It was late. Well of course it was, it had to be if you wanted to go stargazing. Not to mention also that it meant no students, which for the jet black haired boy slipping out of the dungeons meant pure relief. He buttoned the double breasted coat a little tighter, checking his pockets to make sure his 13 and 3/4 inch Ash wand was secured to him, and it was. He held in his right hand a medium size light green muggle notebook that he had been using for his studies outside at night. He was smart, yes, but found no need to study for actual school things, but rather for his own common good. He was like a sponge, always constantly soaking up information to put to use in his little quest for his father.
Did that mean the outsiders thought he was smart? No. They actually thought he was a mute most of the time, hardly speaking to anyone in the classrooms he was in. Even in his own house he had found very little comfort in those around him, though he sorely wished he could some how. Most had spread rumors about him that were, for the most part, completely insane. Stuff about how he was apparently in Azkaban during his 2nd and 3rd year where he had mysteriously disappeared off the face of the earth. Others were better, but still crazy in his own mind.
During his little time of thinking he had managed to make his way up the north tower wing and into the Astronomy tower, where he would find relief from all the swirling thoughts in his head. He pressed his open hand to the oak door that stood before him at the top of the stone stairs he had just traveled. His skin went from warm to icy as he felt the cool wind sweep into the landing, stepping through the door and shutting it behind him.
Marcus made his way over to a fresh telescope he hadn't had the pleasure to touch yet, pulling up an old oak chair that sat beside the telescope and sat down, placing his eye to the looking glass. His hands sat the notebook in his lap before finding their way to the knobs, adjusting the telescope to peer as far and as clearly as possible. "Ah..." he breathed in a half sigh half thrill. He pulled back from the looking glass, tossing the pages of his notebook open to a blank page. He took a muggle's pen out of his coat pocket and began to draw the constellation he was seeing, his eye going back and forth from the looking glass to the piece of paper.
It was only a few minutes of excitement before he was startled back to reality. He heard the oak door from below creek open and the clicks of footsteps on the stone stairs. He looked over his shoulder and waited to see who was going to pop out the old oak door behind him.

It was normal for Petra to go to the North tower late at night. She usually went there to think or study if the Slytherin common rooms were too loud for her to study. She wasn’t like most Slytherin. She was nice, sweet, and smart. She never took her time to be mean or bully other kids because her parents taught her better then that. Now she had to live up to her new name, Riddle. Her father was the next Dark Lord and only the pureblood DE members and a select few knew that.
She sighed as she walked up the many stairs that led to the top of the tower. She opened the door to the tower and saw Marcus. She heard rumors about the guy but didn’t believe them. She wasn’t the type to believe rumors that didn’t have facts behind them. “Hi.” She said with a smile.
She had seen him a couple of times in the common rooms. He wasn’t a talker and he didn’t seem to have many friends. It was funny how people call him mute when actually does talk, sometimes. “Nice night for star grazing. She looked out the window and look at the sky. It was clear and the sky was covered with a billion of stars.
(sorry about the shortness...been running low on cupcakes)

The door creaked open and there stood a blonde headed girl by the name of Petra, one who he had known to be in his own house, but not really ever talked to. He knew she wasn't the typical Slytherin, never seeing her boss another around or act up in any way. It was funny how the sorting hat did things like that, but who knew? Maybe in the end she really would turn out to be a true Slytherin like everyone in his family had been.
"Er....Hi?" he said, not trying to sound rude. He had went the whole day without talking to anyone, just like almost everyday, so now being confronted by someone made him feel a little awkward. What really through him off was the smile. No girl had ever really smiled at him. His face flushed whiter than it was and he turned his attention back to the scope, peering back and forth once again from glass to paper.
He watched her out of the corner of his eye though, watching as she walked over to the window to peer out into the stars and throw the usual conversation topic of how the night was. He gave a slight nod, not looking at her, but only speaking. "Yes it is." he told her, his thick British accent hanging out in the words. It was the first time in a while he had actually heard his own voice and almost forgot how he sounded.
Her presence was bugging him though, not being use tot he idea of 'company'. He sat back up from the lens and looked over at her. "Look..." He started out again, the same accent hanging heavily. "If you're here to make fun of me or you're friends dared you to talk to me, I'd appreciate it if you would kindly escort yourself out the door. I might not talk much, but i can throw a hex at someone a mile away." He knew is she didn't mean him any harm he'd have just made an ass out of himself, but with the way things were, he had to make sure.

“Nope.” Petra said smiling. She was the type of person to make fun of people or go through a dare that was mean. “This is usually my place where I come to escape. I come here to study, think, and sometime star-graze. ” She said sitting down. She had no attention to leave. This was her place as much as it was his. “and don’t worry if you throw a hex at me I make sure to send you one back.”She said smiling. “but I’m not in a mood to start a duel so I rather you not throw a hex on me.” She said politely.
She looked back outside. “I’m Petra by the way.” She said smiling. She wasn’t use to the fact that someone was up in her tower. She was usually by herself since all her friends had better things then studying. She did also come here to escape reality since her life wasn’t going as she like it. She’s been having nightmares about her parent’s death. Her brother was on a suicide mission and that was her fault. Out of everything there was only one good thing. She gotten adopted by the DADA teacher and next Dark Lord. She still wasn't sure if she was going to join the DE but she still had time to think about it.
“You know I don’t believe all those rumors.” She said looking at him. “I have heard you talk before so you couldn’t be mute and if your where mute you probably wouldn’t be here since you need your voice to do spells.” She said. “and the other rumor is just stupid.” She said simply. “The kids here just don’t have a life and they think by spreading rumors they life might get more exciting.” She said.

Marcus felt a new warmth of relief sweep over him at what she said. He really wasn't in the mood to cause a scene between him and a few students who were just trying to have a bit of a laugh, but a laugh isn't really what they should be doing to a person like him. As soon as the warmth settled in it was quickly swept over by a chill of harshness. "Well then I must apologize." he said looking over at her, and for a second a smile crept across his face. It faded quickly though as he turned his attention back to the scope as she talked. "Well I'm not in the mood either so I think we are both safe." He replied, his voice smooth. He gave a little push of his feet on the stone and the chair rolled over to a telescope adjacent from him.
"Marcus." He said, glancing back over his shoulder to make sure she was still there and not a ghost. His eyes flickered back and forth between the scope and the notebook again. "But, I'm sure you already knew that.". The pen drew eliptical patterns here and there, some dark than others, others spinning in spirals and loops rather than the usual ovals. His hand shook though as she spoke once again, addressing the rumors about him. His heart kinda skipped a beat for a moment and he turned his body, the chair following suit, to face her. "'Bout time for someone with some decent common sense." he said kinda excitedly though his off beat green eyes were still cold as ice as they peered at her. "Well....Thank you for seeing the truth." he said, looking off, then at her, then turning swiftly around to work some more.

“Of course you’re in my house and you probably knew who I was before I told you my name.” Petra smiled lightly. “I’m pretty, smart, and have decent common sense. I knew there was a reason why people where naturally drawn to me.” She joked. “and your welcome.”
She jumped up from where she was sitting and walk toward where Marcus was sitting. “So what are you drawing?” She asks curiously as she looked over his shoulder. She only see dots but her guess was that he was drawing constellations. “Do you like stars?” She asked. She didn’t like silence when someone else was in the room. It felt weird to her for some reason. The only time that she can be silent was when she was by herself.
She was a strange person and often was told so. She didn’t really care though since she had a weird out look of life after the murder of her parents. The whole school knew about her parent’s murder and that she and her brother had witness it. She could feel the stares from people who pity her though she didn’t want they pity. She was okay now but she still nightmares from that night. She was getting over it slowly and one day it would be a distant memory to her.
“So is star-grazing a hobby or something you do to think?” She ask.

"That is true, I did at least know your name before hand." he said as he kept working, the pen now starting to add details tot he little dots and circles he had drawn. "You do seem like the smart type, that is from what I've seen from the common room and now." He said, chuckling for the first time in forever. He threw another faded, jagged smile over his shoulder. He hoped she wouldn't take it badly, it was really the best he could do on account of being the mute of course. He turned back to his work, now adding names to all the stars, plotting their courses and their whereabouts in the night sky.
He could hear her shoes hit the cold stone floor as she jumped down from her seat, shoes clicking as he felt her draw closer, finally peering over his shoulder to his work. "Constillations." he said softly as he finished up his work for the night, signing the date at the bottom corner of the paper. "Yeah, I enjoy them a lot." he said looking over his shoulder slightly at her.
He knew he should be rather annoyed by her company, but he actually kind of felt glad she was there. It felt good every once in awhile to be with someone else, someone new. If his dad saw him now... He would of already been in the middle of a duel. But that wouldn't happen anymore, not since he turned his back on his father those two years he was missing from the school. He thought he could be his own person finally, but still found himself in the same routines. If only he could break that cycle.
Or was he already? Was that how now he was finding more and more people talking to him when he was bumped into in the halls? He shook the thoughts from his head as she spoke once more. He turned around, looking up at her as he leaned back in the chair. "Kinda both." he replied to her. "I'm usually up here to escape this place called school and try to find myself out there, but no luck so far." He looked down then back up at her. "What about you? What brings you up here tonight?"

Petra smiled as he compliant her. “Sometimes you found yourself in the most unexpected places.” Petra never had to found herself. She knew who she was and what she wanted to do. She was always sure of herself but last week she questioned herself which was something she didn’t do often. “I come up here to think about life and now much it sucks at the moment.” She said sitting back down and sigh. “Sometimes I wish I was a star then at least I wouldn’t have to deal with drama and boys.” She said laughing. “but the bright side to my life, I got my health well most of it that survive the last few weeks." She said laughing lightly.
The last few weeks as been hell for her. The drama with her, Trevent and Brandon took a lot out of her. But yesterday encounter with trevent made her hope that they were a sliver lining to all the chaos. She was a happy person by nature and the last weeks she wasn't herself. She snap and got pissed easily which wasn't normal. She was depressed most of the time because of different reasons other then the drama but it wasn't like for the young girl to be moody.
"and i also came up here to think about my parents. I use to star-graze with them when i was little." She said looking at the sky. "My mother loved the stars."

Marcus smiled for the first time in a long while. It was jagged and faded, but what could you expect from a boy that was beat half his life and told not to love. He listened as she spoke. Her voice was sweet and rather soothing, something that he was missing in his life. He had his occasional girlfriends, though they were all Slytherins and mostly just as cold as he was. He needed someone warm, someone that could warm his soul. But that was meant to be found at another time. His attention returned as she finished speaking her first round of answers. "Well I'm sure life would be grand for the both of us if we weren't here." he said, chuckling a bit. He heard her speak again, commenting on her own health. "Whats been going on? If you don't mind me asking of course."
He was starting to soften up, something he found himself doing quite a lot. He didn't hate it, but he was rather annoyed by it all. His father beating him senseless to try and keep him form loving, from feeling the warmth of joy and pleasure. It was all going out the window and into hell now where it belonged. But without going though it, how would have he learned the stuff he had? How could he have been able to so easily surpass all his classmates in classes and even at times no more than what the teachers did. How would he had learned how to fight so well, and be trained to take on basically any threat? Those few things were the only blessings that came out of his father's beatings, and now looking back on it in his mind, he really didn't mind it.
His thoughts snapped back again as she spoke once more, and what she said kind of stuck him. Was she the same as him? Had her mother vanished as well, or were both of them gone? "You speak as if they are gone?" he said looking at her, his cold eyes softening a bit, his accent still hanging out brilliantly over his words.

Petra laugh at Marcus statement. “I think that’s bit true.” She wish she could get out of this place but she was stuck here since her father taught here as the DADA teacher. Though she had a feeling he wouldn’t care if she dropped out of Hogwarts. She was silent for a minute because she didn’t expect for him to even care about her drama or health. “Well it’s a long story but it’s basically drama that involves guys.” She said. “I think we got everything settle. Well I hope everything is settled because I rather be doing something else with my spare time. ” She wasn’t in the mood for more drama. She had better things to do with her spare time. She could study, practice dueling, or sleeping.
She looked back at the guy for a minute then turned her attention to the sky. She took a deep breath trying to get hold of herself. “They died when I was eleven years old.” She blinked some tears back because it was still hard to speak about it and she didn’t want to seem weak in front of Marcus. Every night she had to relive her parent’s death. She had just blown out her candles to her cake when some Death Eaters stormed into her house and use an unforgiveable on them. She could hear they screams and felt they blood on her. She wanted to protect them but she was too weak. She had to grow up on that day and realize how the world really did work. “but I can’t really remember what happen that night.” That was a lie. She couldn’t forget that horrible night but she wanted too.

Marcus chuckled a bit more as she laughed at his first statement. He really did wish he could get out of this silly excuse for a school. Not that the teaching was bad, but the students here were so whiny. Always complaining about how hard their life was. Hell, even half his house was the same way, complaining that their lives were so hard cause their mums and fathers were with the Death Eaters, serving the so-called "New Lord" or whatever it was. Maybe if they walked a mile in his robes they would see how hard life really was, waking up everyday with the burning image of his father, wand in hand, slashing it through the air, bruises appearing under the cloth of their pajamas as their skin was pinched, punched, and bloodied. Yeah, maybe then they'd understand why he was cold, so unloving, unforgivable.
His thoughts gathered back again as she spoke, this time of her so-called drama that was going on in her life. He chuckled at the end of it. How could his own gender be such pricks? Not that he was the nicest guy himself, but he had high respect for women, treating them equal and not like a pet like so many pureblood families did now a days. That was another good thing he had received from his father. "Well if everything isn't settled and you need someone to whip them into shape, just come get me." he told her, with a slight mischevious grin on his face, chuckling softly.
The chuckle and grin faded though as he noticed her gaze turn to the sky, and she spoke once again, this time a slight quiver in her voice that she was trying so hard to hold back, but he could tell it was there. So her parents were gone as well. What a small world. Not really though. It seemed lately people were coming clean to Marcus about their parents deaths by Death Eaters, though she didn't mention them, and told him she couldn't remember, he knew there was something missing. He gave her a soft nod as he looked up to the dark sky himself, seeing the twinkling of the stars he had just recently drew. "Me mum was killed when i was just a lad." He told her, his voice growing colder than the wind. "I remember it clearly, walking with my mum to get some breakfast, then the back door busted open. Death Eaters...They tied my dad down, then my dad's best friend killed my mum." Tears came to his eyes, but didn't dare slip from their places. "My dad went insane basically."

“Thanks.” Petra smile warmly at the guy. Even though he put off as being someone who was cold, he was a nice person.
She looked back as Marcus told her about his parent’s death. It was strange that he went through the same thing as her. She didn’t know anyone who lost they own parents in front of them. No one can understand her since they never went through what she went through. Her friends say they can understand but they can’t. They can’t feel what her hearts goes through when she thinks about her parents. They can’t experience what she had to go through just to trust someone again. Just to let someone come into her life was hard for her.
She felt tears running down her cheek through she didn’t know when she started crying. She wasn’t really crying for herself but more for him. She didn’t know his story but some how she felt that he was more broken then her. That he had to go through stuff that she hope will never happen to her. She didn’t mean to cry though since he will only think of her as someone weak.
She knew what he went through and though she couldn’t say anything that will make anything better. She could just cry for him. It probably wouldn’t help any ways but just knowing that someone cared enough would help. Anyways if he asked her way she was crying she could just say it was because of her parents.

He gave a soft smile as she said thanks. What was getting into him? How could a girl come in and just completely change his insides from being solid stone to now mushy Jello stuff? What had happened to the Marcus that everyone feared instead of liked? Was he still in there? Well, yes he was, though now was not the time to come back on strong as the stone cold Marcus that hated everyone and feared nothing. That was another thing too he noticed, fear. it was slipping into the back of his skull, implanting itself there like his father had warned him.
For a moment, he thought he was going to be sick. The rush of emotions had left him stunned, not noticing that now she was crying softly to herself, what about, he didn't know. He got up quietly and made his way over to the window beside him, hanging his head out for a moment, just in case he really was going to lose the contents of his stomach. Nothing came though, and he was now plagued with the fear of stupidity, now having no excuse for the reasoning behind him holding his head out the window.
He turned around to her, noticing finally the tear stains on her cheeks. "What's the matter?" he asked, acting like the whole scene of him almost passing out and barfing had not had happened. He walked back to the chair, though not sitting in it, as he waited for her reply.

Nothing.. I just couldn’t hold in my tears anymore. I miss my parents so much and this guy who I thought loved me. Is acting strange all the sudden I feel like he is going to leave me.” She said crying even more. She couldn’t be able to get abounded again by someone who promised that he will be there. He was like everyone in her life. They end up leaving her and never coming back. She let herself love and trust somebody. She shouldn’t have and now she was paying for it. He made her apologize for something she didn’t even do and blamed her for being part a DE family. He was in a DE family too and he wasn’t turning into a DE member he hated. It was just because she was a slytherin that he thought she will end up like one. She will show him. She will be a DE member and help Bellatrix, Jack, and Cassandra in they plans.
“He tells me one thing and then acts one way. Its like he’s been playing with my feeling all this time.” She really need some friends that were girls. She probably scared poor Marcus with all her crying. Boys weren’t good in emotionally stuff. She figured that out when she had a mental break down and her brother suck at giving comfort or advice. Guys just suck period. Why can they be more reasonable and mature? Why can’t they just tell you the truth instead of lying to you? Lisa was right. Love was stupid and was just a feeling for weak people. But why did she hold on to the feeling of love. Her mother had always told her that they was someone that will love and protect her just like her father did for her mother. But why couldn’t she find him? Was she that stupid to believe in a fairytale instead of logic?

She was crying. Actually crying now! That was just great. Marcus kinda stood there for a moment as he watched her place her heart on her sleeve, crying out her problems and telling him all about them. He felt awkward. Extremely awkward. He was never that big of a touchy type of person, but as he stood there, watching her cry, he could feel his heart hurting. Was it actually breaking? For some other person?!?! What had Marcus done! Some girl, whom he barely knew, slipped right through the cracks of the walls he put up and he was now feeling sorry for her. Pity was such a weird thing.
Walking over to her, he place his hands on her shoulders, giving the best smile he could come up with. He couldn't really relate to her in that way. He had his share of relationships, but whenever they broke, he never bothered fixing it. Why risk hurting yourself on broken pieces? Instead, he moved on, though not quickly like his friend Jake had usually done. Jake could be a jerk sometimes.
His thoughts returned to her though as she fell silent. "Sorry" was all he could manage to slip out really, though she was probably sick and tired of hearing that word by now.
