The Past
History;
Nathan lived a pretty normal muggle life. The idea that there was another world co-existing with theirs never crossed little Nathan's mind. He grew up the middle child between his older brother Robert, and younger sister Rose. Nate didn't mind it for the most part. He got teased mostly by Robert. Naturally, Nate gave it right back to Robert, and even passed a little teasing down to his sister Rose.
Nate remembers when he was seven, Rob got this weird letter for this weird school. Their parents let him go - which Nate was sort of annoyed about. He didn't get to see his big brother for months, and over the time he was gone - Nate missed him terribly. When Nathan turned eleven, he was hoping for the same sort of letter. From what Robert had told Nate, it was really awesome. Nate thought he could get it, he was earning the top grade in his class. To much great disappointment, Nate never got a letter from Hogwarts. He was stuck behind, in great frustration.
It bothered Nate even more that five years later, his little sister gets a letter to Hogwarts. Nate didn't understand so, to be special himself - he graduated from secondary school two years early, and went to some fancy university in the U.S. While in the U.S, he studied a lot of crap. More importantly, he took a little trip down to New Orleans, Louisiana. It was there, Nate was introduced to poker. He found the game to be fun, exiting, and a thrill to be betting money - something he loved very much.
Before long, the name Nate Thrasher meant something there. He was good at playing cards. After graduating - with honors - from his fancy schools, Nate returned home to England for some time. His brother, Rob was getting married. Nate had to be there to be his big brother's best man. However, on his brother's wedding day - Nate fell in love with his sister-in-law. She was the most beautiful creature he had ever seen. Nate kept his distance, knowing that he couldn't have his brother's wife.
As time passed, Nate realized that Jean, his sister-in-law, was hanging around him more often. They would flirt here and there - Nate brushed it off as harmless. But, harmless became rather dangerous after a few years. Nate ended up really falling for Jean - who seemed to return the favors. They began to sneak around. Their relationship hadn't been just about getting frisky - Nate found he could actually hold a conversation with Jean.
After a whole year of an affair, it all came crashing down. Rob got the brilliant idea to stop by - unannounced - to ask Nate if he knew where Jean was. Oh, Nate knew where Jean was - on top. Rob caught the two lovers together - and at first he was completely shocked. The shock and pained expression hurt Nate a lot. What hurt more was when Rob flipped his lid. Nate tried to reason with Rob but, anger was in the way and Rob pretty much beat Nate unconscious. The only thing he remembers is Jean yelling at Rob to stop, the sound of sirens, and then waking up with a light shining in his eyes. Nate heard the story, from Jean, about what happened. She quickly divorced Rob, and filed a restraint. Apparently, Rob had hit her or something - which made Nate mad. He deserved what he got - Jean didn't.
For a few years, Jean and Nate lived happily. Slowly, Nate couldn't take the memory of that night - or what he could remember anyway. Nate took up drinking -much like Rob. The only difference was that Nate hid it from everyone, including Jean. Nate took a few trips back to the U.S - looking of a job. He found a few but, he doesn't like getting bossed around...so he quite. Instead, Nate made money by playing poker - a lot of high stakes poker. He did pretty well for himself. Then came the game that changed his life. Nate was playing against some rich Italian dude. The Italian guy thought that Nate was cheating, which he sort of did, and then threatened him. Nate didn't believe the guy but, he made a run for it. The thread wasn't just a threat. Several weeks later, Nate came home to find Jean murdered in their bedroom. It looked like a suicide but, Nate knew otherwise. Jean was still alive when Nate had found her - she died in his arms.
Deciding to make another run for it, Nate headed to the wizarding world. With Rose's help, Nate became a squib - just learning enough magic to get through the world alive and in about one piece which was enough for Nate. Now, he's been tracking down Rob - just to see where his brother has been, and break him the bad news about Jean. That moment just won't be pretty. Nate took it upon himself to learn a few extra defensive spells, just in case.
