OKAY, its miss. admin's turn to speak.
You strike some really good ideas fox. First off, I like the site just the way it is. The word count is more of a guideline than an actual rule. If we take it out, we are going to be getting one liners left and right. So a no to that, and a no to making it more. This is an all level site, with an app. You can remove that section of the app if you want, I am not attached to it. As for making it look more professional, that is a no. Those kinds of sites hardly have a chance in survival because they are always so uptight and have to have things there way or no way. They try to control characters and I don't want that. I want a fun site that everyone loves, like we have now. I want to keep the app, so people can find out about characters, the word count, everything that was here when we started. We are not dead! So we don't have 100 and some members on all the time! So some might leave! But they always come back. Look at Meme, Aly, Sue, and all the rest that disappeared or left! They came back, because the site is fine! We just need a new advertisement and to advertise more. If we start changing things now, we will start losing members, and not gaining everything. Trust me, I know, I have experienced it all on another site.

I like the appearance part of the application it gives you a chance to describe your character, its practice for when your in a thread. It is lazy to just refer to pictures all the time. Part of Roleplaying is to be creative, and thats what the appearance section also points out. The abillity to describe your character, is making it real to the reader. Without your just a face in a picture, my first site I was on there weren't signatures or avatars. It is important to make the character available, and your saying that the posts are getting shorter, well if people strike out appearance in their replies for referring to pictures, that some hide.. (That is an option when you modify your character.. I've done it before (People had too long signatures and I was sick of scrolling)) Use your imagination to describe your character in case you don't know who to use for a play by, or you decide to change it, it will give you something to refer too.

I'm sorry I ranted, I just feel appearance part is a important part of your application, pictures can't do the work for you. There is more to appearance then what a picture can give.

and about the appearance thing - i get what you mean. but the thing is, the personality and history still need to be written, which gives people a chance to develop and grow their characters, which is what an application is really about. you're 'finding' them. whereas the appearance is just that - an appearance. i don't find it important at all, when so much more creativity can be put into the personality and history. that's just my opinion, though.[/size][/ul]

i just thought that a first impression point of view would be helpful. if you want me to shut up, please do say so, lol. i followed my dear bacardi on here as dante and generally i like the site. but i definitely see what fox is saying, i think a little revamp would be good. not even the app or ad or skin needs to change. if i had to change anything, it would be the way the boards are set up. it's something simple that doesn't change the plot, but it makes it look more organized, and thus, more professional without being all anal about everything. people don't want to join a site that both looks disorganized and is loosey goosey wih the rules. a little balance is all i suggest. maybe dividers between the categories, less boards and more subboards (especially for things like kings cross and mungoes which aren't used at all yet). i'd also like to toss out there that trying to prevent mary-sues and controlling the characters are two totally different things that shouldn't be mixed up. mary sues are no fun.

just throwing my two cents in, but i also find appearance kind of a drag. i get that it's good to spark creativity, but i'd rather have a stricter roleplay example than appearance.

I love the way the site is. I have looked and been on different sites, but I find that this one is my favorite. I'm here all the time, =] And I really do like everything about it, it's laid back and fun. Boards calm down during school season and work days. It happens to them all. Even my harry potter messaging board that has almost 500 members has slowed down. It happens. Personally, I like the appearance portion. It allows you to add onto the picture and give your character a little bit more. Play by's are more of a reference then how a character really looks in my opinion. Trevent doesn't look exactly like Aaron Johnson, but it's close to how I imagine him in my head. And Jessamyn doesn't look like Marie Digby. They are just representations. Not the character. Am I making sense?

I want to add that I love our Admins. =] You guys really aren't as bad as Fox wants to make herself think she sounds. You're just concerned. That's it.

if we talk about what to change... I like almost everything ^^ but I waste my time looking for sub-boards. I mean for example. I want to get to the charms classroom and I forgot on what floor it was (not at the moment though xD). It would be nice to write below the board name what is there. Like:
Third Floor:
Hospital wing
History of Magic Classroom
DADA classroom
Trophy room.

I hope I explained well what I think. I had a bad night and can't think in English >.<
