The Outer Layer
Physical Appearance;
Phoenix has light brown hair that almost touches his shoulders and is rather shaggy. He is constantly moving it out of his face, which can be rather charming. His eyes are a piercing green and when you look into them he seems older and wiser than he is. His face is boyish, as is his awkward, teenage body. He is slowly growing into his height, but his frame is still thin (though slightly muscular). Phoenix is a little bit taller than most other boys his age because he seems to be maturing a bit faster than them. His smile is soft and sweet, very non-threatening. Overall he is handsome in a charming, boyish way.

Personality;
In true Hufflepuff fashion, Phoenix is a peacemaker. He is bright, cheerful and kind. Phoenix may not be the smartest student, but he has character and his strength lies in this fact. He is often able to rise above and be the voice of reason in strenuous situations, even if he feels a bit nervous about it. Never vain, Phoenix looks for the good in other people and sees their inner beauty before even noticing what is on the outside. He is people-smart, meaning that he understands people and can easily relate to others (as well as provide comfort to them). He is flawed in the fact that his kindness is often taken advantage of and while he eagerly comes to the aid and defense of others, he rarely does this for himself.
The Past
History;
Phoenix was born to a family ravaged by the last battle with Voldemort. Most of his family died, leaving behind only his mother and father who were told that they would never be able to have children. Depressed and defeated, they both didn't try too hard to have children and did not explore all of their options. Ten years after Voldemort was defeated, Melinda and Stephen Braun were in their forties and had settled into a quiet life when they discovered Melinda was pregnant. Overjoyed with the birth of their first and only son, they named him Phoenix as a symbol that miracles do happen and that their family was finally rising from the ashes.
Afraid that dark magic and evil wizards would rise again, the Brauns sheltered their child and never revealed to him that he was magical. Part of them felt guilty for leaving the wizard community, but after all that they had been through, they wanted nothing more than to keep their only son safe. The Brauns realize that when they pass on, Phoenix will be the only one left to keep their blood line going, but they have never pressured him or burdened him with this fact.
Before his eleventh birthday they revealed the truth to Phoenix, knowing that no matter what they did, his letter would come. He was over-whelmed with the knowledge but excited to find out that he was different from everyone else he knew. The ministress of magic convinced his parents that Hogwarts was now a safe place and that there had been 21 years of peace in the wizarding world. So, they sent Phoenix to Hogwarts, but without anyone to truly nurture his magical gifts, he has not excelled in his courses.
Phoenix has spent his years at Hogwarts in awe of magic, but has never been the best student. His parents never instilled a sense in him that magic is important and his studies are important, mostly because of their fear. In his third year, his teachers discovered that he is brighter than he leads on and that his lack of book smarts comes from his lack of studying and not stupidity.
