THE OUTER LAYER
Physical Appearance;
As a biracial child of African and Caucasian blood, Avalyn has the best of both worlds. She inherited her father's dark black hair and prominent lines. From her mother, she gained a fairly light skin tone and strikingly blue-green eyes. Pansy's nose and Blaise's plump lips define Avalyn's face within the strong lines of her jaw and cheek bones. At 1.65 meters, she is a mesh with her lithe, lanky frame.
With a natural dancer's grace, Avalyn prances through the halls of Hogwarts. Her high voice still retaining a ring of girlhood and she does nothing to persuade people away from casting her as young and careless. Even her style of dress in cutesy, flowery dresses and flats, bright colors and flip flops, the whimsical way she just throws her clothes together, adds to the idea that she's still Daddy's Little Girl.
Distinguishing Features;
Her Caribbean sea eyes, she's the only one in her family with them.
Portrayed By;
Jessica Szohr
THE INNER LAYER
Patronus;
Platypus; a cute, secretly deadly animal much like Avalyn
Boggart;
Grandmother Parkinson; though she died when Avalyn was young, she has faded memories of a stern faced older woman who once chased her around the family library, waving her cane and screaming at the top of her lungs.
Strengths;
- Potions; something about the ordered way of doing things to prepare a potion soothes Avalyn and she finds comfort in making a difficult potion.
- Charms; being able to focus on what she wants something to do, to the point of blocking out everything else, makes her great at Charms.
- Reading people; at first, she just liked to watch people. But the more you watch, the more you notice and noticing is what makes people into open books.
- Determined; since she was little, Avalyn has been the sort of girl to get what she wants, no matter the means.
- Dancing; Avalyn enjoys the feeling getting lost in dance gives you, and as such she is fairly talented in pointe.
- Compassionate; She just gets where people are coming from, and it touches her. It's why she wanted to become a healer, so she could help others with their aches and pains.
- Gentle; Avalyn's manner of everything is gentle, from speech to touch, she wants to convey a feeling of trust and one must be gentle in order to be a good healer.
- Pretending; Isn't every Slytherin good at pretending to be one thing, but secretly being the opposite?
Weaknesses;
- DADA; even though it's something she needs to be a healer, Avalyn just doesn't get DADA. She can't seem to focus on the spells, they are meaningless to her.
- Honesty; the double-edged sword, she wants to be honest, but that would hurt people, so bending the truth a bit is better?
- Remembering; unless she writes it down, Avalyn can't remember anything from the class notes to the time she's supposed to meet her mom for lunch in Hogsmede.
- Shopping; when you come from money, it's not like you really understand how to not get what you want when you want it.
- Discriminant; like father, like daughter. She's been indoctrinated to believe that anything but pureblood is useless. Then again, what makes those death eaters so grand? (maybe someone can change her mind, wink wink)
- Love; what girl isn't undermined by the thought of true love and romantic evenings?
- Spelling; thank goodness for the spell-check quills or Avalyn would have surely failed every essay on account of her professors being unable to read them.
Fears;
- Thunderstorms; ever since she was tiny, the flash of lightening and the crash of thunder have sent her into a paralyzed state.
- Sexual Orientation; old school purebloods girls are supposed to grow up and find that perfect, handsome and equally old school pureblood boy and get married and have beautiful pureblood children, but then why does Avalyn find most men so unattractive, why does her pulse start to race at the sight of smooth thigh peeking from a skirt?
- A patient dying on her; who would want that?
- Having to pick a side; nobody wants a war, but it's terrible. At least it's provided her with a stable job in the future. However, having to declare a side to "fight" on, scares her. What if she's on the losing side, then who would trust her to care for them?

History;
On May 12th, 2007 at 9:23 am, Pansy birthed her second child. They named her Avalyn Rose, as a nod to the floral name of her mother. This child however, was the polar opposite of her older sister. Where Raina was a fairly easy child, Avalyn was colicky. She didn't sleep much, spit up all the time, and seemed to scream over the smallest things. Pansy was quite happy to give Avalyn over to the nurse's care. However around her first birthday, she seemed to settle down and Pansy would come more often to play with Raina and her.
Right around the time that Avalyn started walking at sixteen months, Pansy had her third daughter and the nursery stopped revolving around Avalyn. This came as a shock to her and shaped the rest of her life. She had to do more to stand out, to be noticed by her parents. As a middle child, she sometimes got ignored or rather just overlooked.
By the time she was 44 months, and the last of the girls was born, Avalyn was trying to learn to read. She had convinced Raina to teach her. This brought a mild interest to her, but her parents didn't seem as excited as when Raina had learned. At least the two youngest sisters seemed to love her; they watched everything she did and Avalyn soon began going out of her way as she grew up to do things for them, to care for them and love on them. That's when she decided to become a healer, as she kissed their boo-boos better.
Nonna was her favorite person, the only person who really loved Avalyn above all others. Of course, this only happened when Nonna realized that Avalyn had the fine tastes as herself. At the age of six, Nonna took the sisters to see the Russian Ballet. Even though they were just stupid muggles, Nonna said that the art they practice was a sort of magic to itself. And Avalyn feel in love with grace and beauty of the dance. The very next day, she demanded a dance teacher. At her parents' refusal, Nonna stepped in and paid for Avalyn's lesson with the best dance instructors in Europe. Everyday, Nonna would come over and she would take Avalyn to her classes, no matter what country they were in or with what muggle. Avalyn became very fluent in several languages very young.
When she was eight years old, Raina left for Hogwarts. Avalyn was secretly thrilled. And accordingly, Daddy spent more time with her, teaching her basic magic and going over the homework the tutor assigned for her. She learned from watching Mummy how to get what she wanted from Blaise or anybody else. That year for Christmas, she managed to convince Blaise that she was doing such a great job at her book learning, basic magic and her dance classes that she deserved her own dance studio. Summer came and Avalyn couldn't wait to see Raina. But Raina was now much better than Avalyn, who was just too little. And Daddy was so happy to see his favorite girl come home. Avalyn began withdraw from her eldest sister, doting on the younger two and promising when she came home from Hogwarts, she wouldn't act like Raina.
Finally the fateful year came and Avalyn got her Hogwarts letter. With Pansy and Blaise and of course Raina to get the necessary items for her fourth year, Avalyn went to Diagon Alley. Nonna met them there with a beautiful caramel kitten for Avalyn to take with her to Hogwarts. A kitten who she named Cassandra, for the ancient seer who foretold tragic events. Because the kitten was bribe or rather a token gift to make the lost of daily dance classes okay. Avalyn cried and cried when Nonna explained that dance would have to wait until the breaks. In fact all she remembers of that day is getting Cassandra and the painful loss of dance.
Her first year came and went, being sorted into Slytherin, doing well in her classes, all the normal things. She learned to love potions and charms and she learned patience as she waited for dance to resume. Avalyn wrote to her sisters every day. The years passed and she remained close to her younger sisters, still loved dance and never seemed to have a boyfriend. Now she waits in excitement to finish up at Hogwarts and start her healing career.
