Nani Vanet sat looking at Hogwarts Castle from beneath the long sweeping branches of a willow tree. The leaves rustled in the wind as she watched all the students either going to class or hanging out and visiting with friends on the grounds. The seventh-year Hufflepuff sighed tiredly, and a little mournfully. The new school year had begun and she had yet to talk to a single person in the whole school besides the professors. And here she was, skipping class for the first time in all of her seven years of schooling, all because she was feeling a little lonely. Really, how pathetic could you get?
Nani sighed again for what felt like the millionth time and readjusted her sitting arrangement so that she was staring up at the sky through the willow’s branches. What was wrong with her? It wasn’t like her to be so isolationist but ever since that Ace kid’s party and her drunk night at The Three Broomsticks with Albus Potter she hadn’t felt like herself. It might have had something to with the fact that she’s had a drinking battle with some guy, ended up winning and then actually partyed, like she danced and everything. It had been probably the weirdest thing she had ever done. And she was surprised she could actually remember the night considering all the alcohol she had consumed.
It was only after that wild party the Nani considered the ramifications the party might have had on her social life, but no one seemed to remember that she had even been there. So much for actually having a social life this year. To make matters worse, Nani felt like a complete outsider with the other Hufflepuff girls her age. Over the summer they had all hung out and conveniently forgotten to invite her. It was probably the worst feeling Nani had ever experienced in her young life, being on the outside looking in.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;] Hey lonely lady with the big brown eyes I'm thinking your sadder than you realize The Words: 344 The Outfit: clicky The Notes don't laugh at my JB lyrics Albus trudged across the grounds with his hands in his pockets. The past few weeks had been hard for him, dealing with all of the crap that went down between the LeBlancs and the Potters; even the Weasleys had gotten involved. Why did he have to be so stupid? Kelsey is married, he should have known better. But he didn’t, and that was the problem. Being drunk wasn’t an excuse for going and doing it twice. Once, there was a chance of him escaping unharmed, but twice, goddamnit, there was no more hope. The boy hadn’t returned home since he had left the former Headmaster’s house. Why did he have to make things worse by doing it in his home office, and then again in his bed? Honestly, he had no idea what went through his mind when he was drunk. Damn the dragon shots and their effectiveness.
Well, there is nothing he could do to change it now. What’s done is done and he had to push it behind him. Unless, he could somehow convince his aunt to lend him her time turner, but that would be a difficult mission. He’d have to think through that a bit more before he put the plan into action. Albus kept walking, kicking rocks as she spotted them. The boy looked up for a split second, his blue eyes skimming over a familiar face. It was the girl from The Leaky Cauldron, the one that he had practically spilled his mind to while he was drunk. A smile played across his lips as an image of her stunning hazel eyes flickered in his memory.
Albus walked up to her with a smile and sat beside her, mentally kicking himself for not remembering her name. He was a bit ashamed of himself, but at least he remembered most of what had happened that night. “Ello there,” the boy said with a charming smile, flipping some of his shaggy brown hair out of his eyes. He remembered her lips, the ones he had kissed ever so innocently. |

Nani was basking in the sun, enjoying her rare free time. Her thoughts had long turned to imagining she was at a beach resort as she lay under her willow tree. It was such a lovely dream, full of brightly colored clothes, tropical birds and white sand. Too bad the screetch of some raptor had to go and wake her up. Nani groaned as she sat up again and glared up at the sky, searching for the bird that had woken her up. But the sky was clear, nothing but blue with a scattering of fluffy white clouds.
Nani sighed. Being all alone wasn't turning out to be all that fun and no white knight was coming to save her like in all the books. Nani leaned forward and grabbed her feet, stretching out the muscles in her legs. It hurt a little but definitely felt good. She was just moving to lay back down when someone sat down beside her on the grass.
Nani looked sharply around, completely surprised. No one had talked to her in a while in a social setting, not after Amaranth Miron, her best friend had transferred schools. The person beside her was a boy, roughly her age. His shaggy hair almost covered his beautiful blue eyes and from what Nani could see just sitting next to him he was pretty muscled, he also looked very familiar. “Ello there,” the boy said with a charming smile, flipping some of his shaggy brown hair out of his eyes. A smile twitched at the corner of Nani's mouth. It was Leaky Cauldron Boy, as she had dubbed him in her mind after she sobered up. She had met him on a delivery run for her mom. They had had a couple of drinks together and then--Nani blushed at her actions that night. Normally she wouldn't have acted in such a brash manner, kissing someone whose name she hadn't remembered the next morning. Still, he was talking to her now. Might as well make the most of it. "Hello," she said in her quiet Irish lilt with a smile. "Nice to see you again."

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;] Hey lonely lady with the big brown eyes I'm thinking your sadder than you realize The Words: 344 The Outfit: clicky The Notes don't laugh at my JB lyrics Albus Potter: The Boy Who Fucked It All Up. Yeah that would be his new title. It was far from something to be proud of. He could practically see himself walking down the streets in Diagon Alley with people turning up their noses at him in disgust. Blinking away the thought, he knew that wasn't how he wanted the rest of his life to play out. After all, he was the son of the famous Harry Potter. Being a disgrace to the family name wasn't an option at this point.
Albus filled his lungs with the chilled September air, clearing his mind of all the negativity. He had to pick himself up and move on. No one else was there to help him up, so he had to grow up and deal with it by himself. He had to step up and act like a man about it, prove that he wasn't all that bad. Sure, he was stupid sometimes, but he wasn't a bad guy. Al treated the ladies like gold and he wouldn't have it any other way.
The boy's crystal blue eyes scanned the grounds as he walked, catching sight of a familiar face. Albus walked over to the girl and plopped down next to her. "Nice to see you again too," he said with a smile. The girl's Irish accent made his smile widen. There was nothing cuter than a girl with an accent. Too bad he couldn't remember her name. It started with an N, that much he was sure of; Nicole, Nadia, Naomi, Natalie, the name was at the tip of his tongue. This was definitely karma coming to bite him in the ass. "I'm Albus," he said, extending his hand in a friendly manner, "and I feel like a total ass, but I can't seem to remember your name." Albus's cheeks seemed to blush in the slightest as he admitted. He was embarrassed. The boy has had many drunk kisses in his lifetime, but this one seemed to be different somehow. |

Nani smiled at Leaky Cauldron Boy. There was no denying it, he was extremely cute. Cuter than her drunken memory of him by a long shot. And he was here, sitting next to her like it was the most natural thing in the world. It made her heart sore and those rabid butterflies take flight in her stomach. Now that she thought of it, rabid butterflies could not be healthy things to have in one stomach.
A wind blew across the grounds sending shivers down Nani’s spine. She wrapped her arms around herself. Winter was on its way, even though it was only September, she could feel it in the air. It was her favorite season because she just loved festive-ness that accompanied it, as well as the snow. Beside Nani LCB was looking sad, like the weight of the word was resting on his shoulders. Something flashed in his wonderful blue eyes, an emotion that was gone before she could identify it. He smiled at her and Nani almost swooned. Really, the boy was so cute it had to be criminal.
"I'm Albus," he said, extending his hand in a friendly manner, "and I feel like a total ass, but I can't seem to remember your name."
Nani took his hand in hers—it felt nice and warm—and shook it. Placing herself so that she was leaning back on her elbows. She smiled up at him squinting her eyes at the sunshine. ”If you’re an ass then so am I,” she told him. ”I forgot your name too. It’s Nani by the way.”

The sun was shining down on everything, causing the grass to glow a bright green color, making it more vibrant than usual. Albus leaned back on the palms of his hands soaking in the warmth. This was the perfect day for Quidditch, no doubt. Too bad practice wasn’t scheduled until later. He hoped that the weather would hold out until then.
“You? An ass? I don’t think so,” Albus said with a chuckling smile. The girl sitting next to him was way too sweet and innocent to even be considered anything but that. “Anyway, I guess it’s understandable. We were both under the influence,” the boy ran his fingers through his hair once more a bit ashamed of being intoxicated, though it was nothing out of the ordinary for a Potter boy. Potters seemed to have the slightest bit of a drinking problem, but his was nothing compared to James’s.
An idea seemed to stab the boy in the brain. Why not ask the girl to lunch? It seemed like a good idea at the moment. “Hey, Nani,” Albus turned his head to look at her, “Would you like to join me for lunch sometime? Tomorrow maybe?” He asked with a charming smile. He wanted to start out fresh, erase what they remembered of the drunk memory. The boy ran his fingers through the grass, picking a white flower. He twirled the flower around his fingers and just smiled, waiting for Nani to accept or reject him. If Albus was faced with rejection, oh well, at least he tried. If she accepted his offer, he’d be a happy guy. Maybe they could try The Three Broomsticks again, but this time they would try to calm down on the drinks.

Nani sighed and lay on her back. It was a beautiful day and there was cute boy beside her. This completely made up for all the crap she had been dealing with lately. Between being by herself most of the time and then her mother hounding her to find a boyfriend life had not been all that great. Not that she had anything on Albus. Nani remembered almost every word of their conversation that dark night at the Leaky Cauldron. Needless to say Albus had it way worse. She couldn’t even imagine going through what he had to deal with and, honestly, she’s do almost anything to see him smile, that was just the way she was.
Lazily Nani watched as Albus picked up a smile flower. His hands made the white flower seem miniscule and she had to bite back a smile. Still, the way he twirled the flower between his fingers made him seem almost nervous, which couldn’t be right. Nani knew Albus’ reputation, he rarely got nervous, especially around girls. That was something Nani could never figure. Not that he didn’t get nervous, but that someone actually had a reputation. Nani didn’t have a reputation, she was too invisible for that, though she probably knew more gossip than anyone else because no one paid attention when she ease dropped. But that didn’t really matter right now, what mattered was trying to get Albus Severus Potter to smile. Yes, that would be her new goal in life. Forget making good marks on her NEWTs, she wanted to see what she saw as her newest friend smile. Probably not the best life choice she ever made but, eh, whatever.
Nani looked up at Albus’ face as he spoke, inviting her to lunch sometime, possibly tomorrow. Again those crazy butterflies started doing acrobatic tricks in her poor, abused stomach. Slowly she sat up. This had never happened before, a boy—a very cute boy wanted to have lunch with her. Nani had the sudden urge to squeal like a fangirl. Her face flush an interesting shade of red but somehow she managed to keep her voice light and joking when she answered. “Like a date or just hang out? The classification of this misadventure might have some influence on my decision.”

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-color: dddddd; border: #cccccc solid 8px; width: 420px; padding: 15 5 15 5px;] Hey lonely lady with the big brown eyes I'm thinking your sadder than you realize The Words: 310 The Outfit: clicky The Notes don't laugh at my JB lyrics Albus twirled the small, white daisy around in his fingers, handling it with such delicacy. He had no desire to destroy things, he wasn’t that sort of guy all the time. Sure, something always manages to break when the boy was around, but that was just his luck. Things never seemed to be in the boy’s favor. They just never went his way. He knew that if he wanted to talk to Kelsey, his family would assume that they were up to no good. Albus wasn’t stupid, he didn’t want to get into any more trouble than he was already in.
The breeze ruffled the boy’s chocolate colored hair as he took the chance, asking Nani out to lunch. Albus’s thoughts began racing around in his mind and his nerves bubbled up to the surface. He hoped that she didn’t judge him by his mistakes or by his reputation. Both of which weren’t that great. Maybe it wouldn’t get in the way though. Maybe she would see the boy behind the destruction. Maybe she could see the softer side of him that no one else really cared to look for. He waited for a reply to his offer.
“That depends on what you want it to be. It can be a date if you’d like,” Albus said, a bashful smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. He was, technically, asking her out on a date, but if Nani wanted to take it slower at first, he wouldn’t mind waiting. He wasn’t that kind of jerk. The boy was patient with some things, only the things he felt were worth waiting for. If she wasn’t worth his time, he wouldn’t be sitting there with her. Something in his head was telling him not to let Nani go. He felt like he would regret it if he did.

Nani watched Albus fingers twirl the small daisy. It was almost mesmerizing, to watch the tiny white flower spin. The way Albus was looking at the flower, studying it, not letting a single petal fall. It was…different than what she had expected. He seemed so much gentler than his reputation would have lead to her to believe. She loved it. It was absolutely wonderful..
A breeze hit Nani from behind, blowing her brown hair into her face. Without really thinking Nani attempted to grab bunch the wayward tresses back into a ponytail but when she went to tie it back with a ponytail holder she found that she didn’t actually have a hair tie. With an inner growl Nani released her hair from the attempt at a ponytail to let it blow wildly around her face. No point in trying to keep it tidy, it’d get messed up eventually anyway.
Just when Nani was afraid that Albus would ignore her question completely, he spoke. “That depends on what you want it to be. It can be a date if you’d like.” Those words just about made Nani’s day. Those rabid butterflies that hadn’t stopped doing crazy tricks her stomach increased their speed. Still, unless she wanted Albus to think her the social leper most people believed she was, Nani had to keep herself calm and composed, or at least as calm and composed as one could be when being asked out by a cute guy for the first time. Slowly, a smile spread across Nani’s face. A playful flint appeared in her. This was her chance to be herself and the not the quiet, innocent little Hufflepuff everyone thought she was, screw caution and decorum and sounding desperate. Nani was going to have fun and enjoy herself, by Merlin. “That’s a good answer,” she told Albus.
