Diagon Alley was a bustle with people even at the later hour of the evening. The streets weren't loud, but there was morderate traffic going from the bank, to the shops and to the eaterys as people hurried to finish their daily wizarding errands. The door to the Leaky Cauldren burst open with a roar of laughter. Avan Beckett stepped out into the fading daylight with a lit cigarette already pinched between his lips. Two older gentlemen followed close behind him with amusement plastered over their faces. Avan shook each of their hands as the passed him while they both clapped him on his shoulder.
Avan pulled out his pocket watch. Five-fortyone. He took a drag of the cigarette and crossed his eyes to watch the end burn orange. He'd been smoking more often these days. Avan was known for his confidence, but lately it had been shaking. Not so much that others could notice, but he noticed, and he knew he wasn't hiding it well enough from his father. Avan was nervous. He had a plan that could not fail. A plan that was already underway.
The tall dark haired boy needed a distraction. If he didn't clear his thoughts soon they would consume him and he would over think the simplest reaction that could cause dire consequences. He took another drag off his cigarette, inhaling not only the toxins, but his thoughts and tucking them deep within him for the time being.
((Sorry it's short, I promise it will get better!))

OUTFITSummer – not just any summer, but the last summer before the final year, before graduation, and before the real world would take hold. A summer that would be spent with family, with friends, and with loves. A summer filled with adventures and music festivals. At least, that was the plan until Kaelyn Whitmore found out that her biological father, Jackson Thorncrest, had been released. There was no doubt in her mind that he would come for her – he had unfinished business with her – and it was just a matter of time. How long until he found her? What was he planning? Oh yes – he was planning something and she knew, but she just didn’t know what.
Despite her fear of Jackson and her fear of what he might do, Kaelyn knew she needed a distraction. She knew that she couldn’t simply stay home and hideout – not only would she go bonkers but it would was mean putting her adoptive family in danger – a risk she wasn’t willing to take. And so the young woman had decided to go to a summer music festival. She’d spend the better part of the last three days at the festival, where numerous bands played on various stages. There were hundreds of people there – muggle and magical alike. It was easy enough to blend in, just in case…or so she thought.
She was standing amongst the crowed, bobbing and swaying to the music, when she felt a light tug on her tank top. The young brunette opened her mind enough to sense that it was a little boy, barely five years old. She turned slowly and crouched down to eyelevel with him, ”Hi there! Are you lost?” she asked, a smile on her face. The boy shook his head and asked, “Are chu Miss Kay-Kay-Kay-linn?” Kae cocked her head to the side and her smile faded into a frown, ”Yes but how did you --?” She was interrupted as the boy thrust out a small silver envelope, saying, “I’m spose to give dis to ya…”
Kaelyn’s forehead creased as she carefully took the envelope from the boy. Her name was written in spidery writing on the front and when she flipped it over…her heart stopped, muscles tensed, and the world began to spin: it was sealed with her father’s crest: the mark of the Thorncrest’s. She gripped the envelope with shaky fingers as she look up to ask the boy where he got it, only to discover that she was alone. Shakily the young witch stood up, spinning around, her eyes scanning the faces and her mind reaching out, searching for that all-too-familiar twisted mind, but it was gone…
She did the first thing she could think of, out of instinct, and ran…she ran into an empty alley and apparated to Diagon Alley – one place she knew he couldn’t find her. The problem was that she was still running and ended up crashing right into a warm body. The impact knocked her back, causing her to lose her balance, and land on her butt. The envelope flew out of her hand and landed at her feet, between her and the person she’d crashed into. Her eyes widened in terror as she stared at the envelope, unable to even register what had happened.
