Summer. Typically a time everyone looks forward to. Not in the Mcnamara family...Summer was the time when Jacoby's siblings would be home from school and back in the house with their abusive father. Summer was the time that he had to worry almost constantly. Typically, He would just let his siblings come stay with him if things got too bad, but he too was back in the house. He had lost his room mate and had to move back home, something he definitely wasn't excited about. The only good thing about this situation, is that he would now be there to look out for his siblings.
Jacoby sighed as he laid back in the grass. He had made it his goal to spend as much time out of the house as possible. He just didn't have it in him to be in the same house as his father. At least at night he wasn't around, but during the day....that was a different story. He closed his eyes and smiled slightly, feeling the warm sun on his skin. This was one of those moments where he didn't have to worry about his home life. The birds chirping overhead, the warm summer sun. Everything was perfect. At least for the moment.
Jacoby opened his eyes once more and stared at the white, puffy clouds drifting lazily across the sky. He was enjoying his relaxing afternoon, but he wished he had someone to talk to. He didn't really have anyone he could just open up to, and it would be nice to have a friend to converse with at the moment. Even if it was only for a little bit. Notes: sorry it's kinda sucky. Summer break; not just any summer break, but the summer break before her last year at Hogwarts. This summer break was meant to be exciting and enjoyable for Kaelyn Whitmore; it wasn't meant to be spent in fear. And yet, as she had found out only that morning, though she thought she would get a respite from the night terrors and the fears, but she'd been wrong.
Just a few hours earlier she had fallen asleep on the couch at her adoptive family's house. She still found it difficult to sleep because when she closed her eyes she could see her biological father's face flash before her, in all his drunken fury. It terrified her, but eventually she would just get so exhausted that she couldn't keep her eyes open... which is exactly what happened that morning. And with this nap, came a new nightmare; a nightmare that woke her with a start, leaving her drenched in sweat, tears cascading down her cheeks, and her body shaking uncontrollably.
She'd only been awake for a minute before there had been a knock at the door. Eyes wide and body still shaking, she relaxed her thoughts to sense who was at the door; her case worker. Slowly, the young brunette had opened the door, eyes wide at the man's grim face. She knew without reading his thoughts and without having to hear him speak the words exactly why he was there... Her biological father had been released.
It was this which had led Kaelyn to the McNamara house; the second youngest of the household, Eloise, was her best friend, and the first person she thought to run to after the case worker's news. Though the sun was shining, Kaelyn walked with her head down, feeling as though a dark cloud were over her head. Jackson Thorncrest was out and that meant he was going to come looking for her. But as she walked up to the McNamara house, her mind a torrential storm, she sensed the Eloise was not home, but... a familiar presence was nearby.
Turning her head, she spotted the eldest McNamara lying in the grass. She paused from a distance, admiring from afar. Ever since she first met him, Kaelyn had thought that Jacoby was stunning. He was a year older than her, and though she had trouble trusting men, she found it surprisingly easy to talk to him, and to trust him. She felt safe around him, a feeling that was very rare for her. She walked closer, her footsteps soft as she approached to where she would be visible to him. A small, sad smile formed on her face as she tilted her head to the side and said, "Hey stranger...." She stepped a little bit closer, her hands tucked into her jean pockets.

Jacoby was getting lost in his thoughts. The house behind him was empty, thankfully, otherwise he probably wouldn't be laying in his own lawn. It wasn't typically the most relaxing place, given the way his father behaved, but today it was peaceful. His father was on a business trip, meaning there was no yelling. No hitting. Nothing. Just good ol' peace and quiet, something the Mcnamara children didn't get to experience too often.
Jacoby turned his head slightly as he felt someone approaching. He wasn't sure who it was until he heard a voice. Hey stranger The girl spoke, causing him to smile slightly. Kaelyn, his younger sister's best friend, stood in the grass in front of him, hands in her pockets. He sat up, not wanting to be rude and smiled slightly. "Hey. How's it goin dear?" He asked, sensing that there was something on her mind. "What's up?" He asked, curiosity and concern showing on his face. He knew about her biological father. The man was just like his own: abusive and a drunk. Maybe that was why Jacoby felt like there was a connection between them. He had always felt like he could confide in her, even if he never had. She was someone he could trust. Jacoby patted the ground next to him, signaling that she should sit. He didn't want to pry, but he could tell she needed someone to talk to. "Eloise isn't home.....but I'm here if you need to talk..." He said, hoping that she could trust him. He knew what it was like, to live in fear of someone you were related to. It wasn't a fun experience, and it was something he knew wasn't good to keep bottled up. But he also knew that it made it hard to trust anyone. Jacoby just hoped she would feel comfortable enough to open up to him.[/blockquote] Notes: super stoked on this thread. you have no idea haha Tags: Ayeeee!!!! Words: However many I typed

Kaelyn wondered what he had been thinking about before she'd interrupted, and then realized what a ridiculous thought that was, since she was a mindreader and already knew, or at least sensed it. She was so dazed and distracted from the nightmare, the news, and her own jumbled thoughts that she hadn't noticed. But now as she stood facing Jacoby, she could sense that the house was silent; Eloise was not the only one absent. No wonder Jacoby was able to lay out in the grass in peace.
She watched as he sat up to look at her, a smile forming on his face. "Hey. How's it goin dear?" She couldn't help but brighten just a little bit in response, realizing that it had actually been a while since she had last seen or talked to him. And the truth was, she sort of missed it. He understood how what it was like to have an abusive father, and though they didn't necessarily open up to one another, there was an unspoken understanding that they could. Her smiled slipped as she sensed his concern, "What's up?" Tilting her head up to the sky, her eyes shaded by her sunglasses, she exhaled softly, "Nice to see you, Jacoby... it's been a while." Lowering her head, she smiled a small, genuine smile, "Have you moved back home? I thought you had a place of your own..."
He patted the ground next to him, "Eloise isn't home.....but I'm here if you need to talk..." Kaelyn bit her lip hesitantly, and then slowly walked forward and lowered herself to the ground, sitting next to him. She sat there, silent, for a few minutes, just thinking. She wanted to open up to him, she wanted to tell him, and to trust him... and surprisingly, as she thought about it, she did trust him. It was hard to imagine not trusting him. He already knew about her father, as she knew about his... He knew most of her so-called secrets already; she had nothing left to hide.
Finally Kae curled her knees up, wrapping her arms around them, hugging them to her chest. She rested her head on her knees, her face towards Jacoby, and her eyes sad, "Children shouldn't fear their parents... It's just... It's not right." She bit her lip again and started rocking slightly, more for comfort than anything else, "My caseworker came by today... Jackson.... Jackson's been released..."

"Have you moved back home? I thought you had a place of your own..." Kaelyn said after greeting Jacoby in a rather warm manner, despite her obvious bad mood. He shrugged in response. "Yeah, Had to move back. My roomie bailed on me...." Jacoby said in a nonchalant tone. Sure, it wasn't the most ideal situation, having to live with his abusive deadbeat dad: but it could always be worse. Instead of being alive, he could be dead. He watched her as she slowly moved towards him, lowering herself down onto the ground after some consideration. True, they didn't talk a whole lot. Which was probably why she had hesitated. But the fact that she had taken his offer made him smile slightly. That is, until he saw her pull her knees up to her chest and begin to rock gently. The smile dropped from his face almost instantly. Jacoby's thoughts ran wild, imagination taking over as he began to wonder what had gotten her so upset. She rested her head on her knees, face towards him and bit her lip. "My caseworker came by today... Jackson.... Jackson's been released..." Was all she said. That was all it took. Jacoby instantly felt as if he had to go into protective mode. He knew what this meant.....he would be coming for her. "Oh Kae....I'm so sorry...." Jacoby said, knowing the words would provide little comfort but speaking them anyway. "Is there anything I can do?" He asked. [/blockquote] Notes: weeee! Tags: Ayeeee!!!! Words: However many I typed

Though they hadn't talked much before, Kaelyn still felt oddly safe around Jacoby. Even just sitting in the grass next to him helped her to relax, albeit just a little. Perhaps it was because he understood what it was like to live in fear of a father; to spend every day wondering how bad it would get and wondering if he might go too far. She had learned not to cry because it just made him angrier... Perhaps it was a shared knowledge of these feelings and thoughts that connected the pair. Kae couldn't help but smile, despite her inner turmoil, at Jacoby's slight smile as she decided to take him up on his offer and join him in the grass.
She could hear and feel his wild thoughts and concern at her announcement; she felt him go into protective mode and it nearly brought her to tears. She had never really felt protected by anyone - other than her adoptive parents and her other best friend, Asha - and that because Asha was a vampire. She stopped rocking but remained with her head on her knees, her eyes fixated on Jacoby. Her grey and violet eyes blurred as tears began to form and build up. She wanted nothing more than to fall into his arms, open her mind to him, and feel safe - and loved. But fear held her instinctual fear held her back.
"I...I don't know what to do, Jacoby," she barely managed to choke out, "I knew before my caseworker showed up, you know. I dreamed about it. He's already... He's... He's planning... something and..." Kae's eyes got wide with fear as she spoke, "I don't... I don't want to live in fear that any second I'll turn around and...there he'll be, and he'll..." Kae bit her bottom lip, closed her eyes, and buried her face in her arms. She was sure she sounded crazy, especially since Jacoby, as far as she knew, wasn't aware of her mindreading ability. With a muffled voice she continued, "He's going to kill me this time. He won't stop until he does. What... What am I supposed to do, Jacoby?"
