With the start of the new school year so close in the future Diagon Alley had been mess of people, shoppers trying to find each item printed on that thick card of parchment. Older students were lazily finding their supplies, already over the thrill of starting school, more emotional about the end of the short summer months than that start of a new school year. Little first years were giddy with excitement, swarming the shelves with a fierce anticipation as they carefully choose out exactly what they needed. New cauldrons, the sharpest quills, tall stack of books with shiny leather covers and crisp new pages. It was cute, and watching them Gemma felt her own pang of anticipation for when Isadora would be in the same position. It was only nine more years, which, she reflected with a sad smile, seemed like forever, but Gemma knew that those years were going to creep up on her like nothing.
Shaking her head Gemma smiled at herself. She really was too young to be having these sort of thoughts. With one last wistful thought of the future Gemma glanced back down to the list in her hand. She always bought her school texts last, as they were always the heaviest to carry around. Her arms were laden with shopping bags, the largest from the apothecary. As she moved the various glass vials and containers clinked against each other was a soft chime. A parcel from Madam Malkine's has been pushed into another bag, this were full of robes. She had to purchase the whole uniform again. It was going to be a bit of a pain, going back to school dress after two years of homeschooling where she'd done a good amount of her work in nothing but an over sized tee-shirt and her underwear. But she needed to go back to an actual school. Home school was good and fine, but it would have been too hard to get the right education to pass her N.E.W.T's, and Gemma needed those passing grades. She probably could get a decent enough job without them, but decent wasn't going to support and mother and child the way Gemma wanted to raise Izzy.
Sighing Gemma plucked a book from the shelf, barely bothering to look at it, just scanning the title to make sure it was the right year and edition before setting it down into her basket, moving onto the next section of the massive book store. Slowly Gemma moved down the long list of text that would be required for the year, until she only had two more items to fetch before she go home. It always went like this, when Gemma went out on long shopping trips. At first she would be excited to be out, for the sole purpose of buying things, but as the day dwindled on she always get impatient to buy things, having enough of the noise, lines and crowds. Gem got bored easily and school supplies certainly weren't the most exciting thing in the world.
There it was. Gemma spotted the green spine of Libatius Borage's fifth edition of Advance Potion Making. Reaching up for it Gemma scowled as her fingers just brushed the bottom of the spine. Merlin, of course it would be on the shelf she couldn't reach. Looking around for a ladder Gemma's frowned deepened as she couldn't see any near her. She wasn't completely motivated enough to find one and Gemma eyed the book for a moment before trying to stretch and reach it. Rising up on her toes Gemma reached out with her hand, the motion slowly pulling up the hem of her dress. Bingo. Her fingers snagged around the book and letting the heels of her feet settle back down on the floor Gemma looked over the cover of the book. One more and she could finally go home.

Much had been missed. Hogwarts, women, friends. Much had changed. A career, wife, family. Blaze Dolohov had no idea what awaited him when he walked out the doors of Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry for the final time as a student, wearing his emerald green and charcoal black robes. Leaving Hogwarts was forcing him to move out of his comfort zone and find a new place where he could find the confidence to rebuild his life outside the place he considered home for the previous seven years. It was cruel really, to take in children, protect them from this world, and just then, when they are in the prime of their years, they’re dropped off and told that they had to live and lead their own lives. See, cruelty. It hadn’t exactly happened to him though. Blaze Dolohov had always been in the prime of his years, since the very first day he and his two best friends began roaming the halls of Hogwarts.
No one had the right to deny that Blaze Dolohov and his two friends roamed the halls of Hogwarts like they owned the place. Part of Blaze was left behind in that school, he knew and realized nobody could step into the shoes he had. Yes, he understood people could refer to him as the Draco Malfoy of his time, but no, he was nothing like Draco Malfoy. He would always be Blaze Dolohov and no one could compare him to anyone else but himself, he was in a completely different league of his own. It was obvious that Blaze had that bad aura about him, but yet, women still lined up to crawl into his bed at night. The girls knew what they where getting themselves into when they began to play with Blaze, he had the biggest reputation as resident man-whore, unlike his Demetri, who had gotten the reputation of a rapist or Scorp who had maintained the rep of a heartbreaker, Blaze was known for his cold tactics to fool women into bed with him, and then there was some, who thought they really had Blaze hooked. Wrong. Not even his own wife could put a leash on him. For crying out loud, the man owned a bloody brothel, there was no way in hell a ring was going to tie him down.
Blaze had found his way particularly quickly after Hogwarts. While Demetri had applied to work at the Ministry, and Scorpius was hired for professional qudditch, Blaze had walked into the business minefield. From there he had picked up a Law Firm, one which would protect those who had been accused of working for the dark side. Simply just protecting death eaters from being put into Azkaban. Not only that, a brothel which he had bought of his dearest friend Demetri, the bloody pervert. Not even Blaze spent much time at the brothel, he had much serious business’ to attend to. Like today for instance, when he roamed his office clutching more files than the strength of his hand could handle. “That’s it Stanley, I need a break.” Blaze barked at his assistant in frustration before grabbing his cloak and leaving his office behind.
He had no idea what the hell possessed him to wander into Flourish and Botts, he just felt like there was something there. He just didn’t know what. Loosening his tie which complimented the suit that he wore, Blaze sighed softly while walking down the aisle’s carefully, scanning over a few particular books. But something quickly distracted him. Watching as a girl leaned up to reach for a book, her dress slowly began to slide up her leg causing Blaze to allow a small chuckle to escape his lips. “Well if it isn’t little Gemma Ackerley,” He began, a smirk plastered onto his lips. How could he forget her, they’d had their fair share of sex-filled nights. However she disappeared after the last time they slept together which was a real shame. “Going back to school I see.” Blaze noted, seeing all the books gathered up in her basket, “How have you been keeping love,” He asked, purely out of curiosity.

A rich chuckle from behind her caused Gemma to pause from her rifling of the long trail of books the lines the rows of shelving. As she turned to see whoever had chuckled spoke up again and a slow smile creased her lips. She knew that voice. It made sense that she recognized it, she had heard it whispering in her ear many a nights. "Blaze Dolohov, it's been too long." It had been years since Gemma had last seen the man, literally. They had known each other when Gem had still been at school. Actually Gemma had been spending a lot of time with him in the few months she had left. Her smile shifted into a smirk as Gemma recalled exact Blaze had been keeping her occupied.
At his mention of school Gemma did a quick calculation, realizing that he must have graduated this summer and wouldn't be returning to the castle this coming September. "Yeah, two more years for me and then I'm free." She had been placed a year behind where she should have been, all thanks her little two year holiday, but Gemma planned on piling on the workload in the hopes that she's be able to finish early. She had already gotten a dose of the real world and it was much too sweet for Gemma to want to give it up for any amount of time. "No more school for you, I imagine." She asked lightly, lifting her eyes to meet his. He hadn't changed at all. Of course, he had 'grown up' to say the least, now fitting even better to his wide shoulders and strong face. There was still something about him that had stayed the same, exactly as it had been two years ago. The always present smirk was on his lips, he stood with the confidence and as always, he just seemed to give off a warning reeking of irresistible danger. He hadn't changed in the slightest and Gemma voiced her thoughts with a loose smiles. "You haven't changed a bit, Dolohov."
Gemma shrugged at his next question, taking a minute to think. Well she was a single mother, relying on her parents and going back to school to try and support her daughter. She was just one big fucking cliche. "I've been better," She finally said, her voice dry and her lips twisted up into a sarcastic smile. Her plan to use James to help support Izzy would have been fine if it weren't for that psycho red head, and now Gemma was back to square one, left with nothing again. She was disappointed, both in herself and James. She shouldn't have pinned all her hopes on this one thing, and now she had messed things up even more for Isadora. But she had also truly thought that James was the father but his ardent denials now had Gemma doubting whether that was true or not. She needed to find out, if only for the fact that she didn't want Izzy growing up ashamed that her mother was a slut who couldn't even tell her who her own father is. Sighing Gemma looked back up at Blaze. "So what's this I hear about you being a married man?" She smirked, "I feel for the poor girl that you suckered into that particular union." Honestly, when Gemma had first heard the rumor about the marriage she hadn't believed it. It was too hard to imagine the devout bachelor married, but it had quickly become one of the most talked about marriages of the year, considering how influential the two families were in the wizardry world. Rumor had become fact and there it was, Blaze Dolohov was married. Gemma had never thought she'd live to see the day.

The rich emerald eyes scanned over every feature, consuming every detail. It had been years, too long since Blaze Dolohov’s eyes fell upon the beautiful girl, anything could have changed. Gemma Ackerley still remained beautiful, and would be for years to come, he highly doubted any of her remarkable features would change in the slightest. Truth be told, Blaze had missed snaking his arm around her waist, brushing his lips against her skin, just holding her for the hell of it. But then she disappeared and left Blaze in utter confusion. Not even a goodbye, not even a reason for leaving. Gemma had been the only girl who had left Blaze wondering what the hell he had done wrong. The first girl he was willing to change for. It’s rather funny seeing as they where nothing particularly serious, only friends who enjoyed a regular screw around. However, he grew accustomed to the small body crawling into bed with him every night, sometimes just for the sake of comfort, and others for a night of passion. Either way, he missed her. “
Leaning down slightly, Blaze took her basket of books from her, “Let me help you Gem.” The thick British accent spoke while slumped casually against the shelves of books. “Two more years, that’s a long time. How ever will you cope without me there to occupy you and satisfy your womanly needs.” That familiar confident smirk grew even wider with his words. To say that Blaze had changed would be a complete failure of a lie, yes he may have became slightly more bulkier, look much more like a man, but he would always be Blaze Dolohov on the inside, the venomous dick who you either loved or hated. Nodding slightly, “That’s right, I’ve finally finished and graduated without being thrown out, which surprised me and my parents and probably everyone else. We all know how much of a shit head I was at school, they’re glad to get rid of me.” Chuckling to himself, he kept his eyes on Gemma, simply amazed by her. “I could say the same, but if it’s possible, you’ve became even more beautiful since the last time I’ve seen you.”
He wanted to know. How could he not want to know when she just left him hanging. With Gemma’s short reply, Blaze allowed a sigh to escape his lips and he took her hand, “Come here,” The mumble was barely audible as he pulled her towards the back of the shop. The back of the shop was the ‘deserted’ part as people would call it, the only people that came back here where the ones looking to have a go. Pushing her against the shelves her looked at her, “Tell me why you left me hanging. Gemma, you can’t just leave me without any warning, without any reason. I refuse to let you go without a reason.” After two years of wondering, pondering thoughts, he deserved the right to know. Trailing his fingers over her cheeks, “Don’t I deserve to know? You were something to me Gem, and just when things where going well you disappeared and now, you’re back again like everything is absolutely fine. Why now? What made you come back?” Blaze was sure as hell she didn’t come back for him, she probably hadn’t even thought about him in her absence. All he wanted to know was why.
Marriage hadn’t played out the way Blaze had expected it. This hadn’t been the life for him. He spent more time at his office than he did at home. Not only that but Helena was already growing bored and everyone knew what happened when the slightest bit of boredom tugged at her. Before the marriage she slept around more than anyone else he knew, even when he stood at the alter he could smell the lingering of another man’s aftershave. Not that he really cared, whatever made her happy and content. “It wasn’t by choice. My father was determined to have me settle down, marry a nice girl, start a family. What he doesn’t know, is that a cheetah can’t change his spots.” There was no way in hell anyone could tame him, he just wasn’t cut out for married life.

Gemma could feel the sweep of his eyes as they faced each other. She didn't shy away from the attention, instead, tilting her face up to meet his eyes. She caught an emotion flicker quickly on his features, but it had gone so swiftly that Gemma disregarded it. Probably on a flash of nostalgia, or more likely, Gem had just imagined it. Feeling the weight of the basket disappear from her arm Gemma smiled, conveying her thanks wordlessly. "Always the gentleman," She teased, falling back effortlessly into an old pattern. It never had been hard to talk to Blaze and Gemma felt that same ease now. At his remark about two years being a long time Gemma pulled a face, wrinkling her nose at the thought. "Don't remind me."
Rolling her eyes she scoffed at his mention of her 'womanly needs.' "Oh sweetheart, I'm sure someone will step up to the plate. You're not that irreplaceable." She replied airily, keeping a cool expression on her face. It wasn't until know that Gemma realized how much she was going to miss thing the way they had been. Going back to school without her usual peers now seemed to loom ahead, like a hollow imitation of the life she had had before. Everything's changed now. There would be no more slipping down to the dungeon common room to visit Blaze, no more sneaking down to the kitchens with old friends. Sure, some of her former peers would be there, but it wouldn't be the same. Her old friend still at school had probably drifted apart, and Gemma didn't feel like trying to start those relationships over again. As much as she wanted to be allowed a little self-pity Gemma knew she needed to just deal with it. It was her choice, and she had to live with the consequences. "What's keeping you busy now? You never really mentioned any plans for after school." Shifting the focus of the conversation back to Blaze, Gemma took a minute to breath.
She didn't catch the soft words that slipped from his lips, but as she felt his hand catch around hers Gemma understood what he wanted. Allowing him to lead her to the back of the store Gemma frantically tried to come up with some way to explain. Used to the scorn that a majority of people treated her with when they found out about Isadora Gemma had created a different, cynical persona that she used to avoid the forced pity and fake sympathy that was inevitable whenever she told her tale. She protected herself with a lofty tone and sarcastic smile, knowing it was too hard for those who judged her, who'd never had to face the same decision that she had, to understand that Gemma hadn't been able to give up her daughter. Izzy was the whole world to her, and she had loved her since the moment she found out she was pregnant. A small, unborn child and Gemma had been hopelessly in love. But Gemma didn't think she'd be able to pull that act with Blaze. She knew he'd see through it, and for some unexplainable reason, she actually cared of what he'd think of her.
Feeling the shelves against her back as Blaze pushed her against them Gemma forced a smirk. "As impatient as ever, Dolohov." Her teasing sounded flat to her, and Gemma hoped he wouldn't notice. His fingers trailing across her face brought a shiver that Gemma struggled to repress. God damn him, why did he care so much? Turning her face away, breaking away from his gaze Gemma shook her head, biting down on her lip. She didn't want to tell him, but he had a point. She had left without a word, and that wasn't fair to him. To anybody. When her voice finally came it was just a whisper, as quietly as the words could come. "I want my daughter to have the best future I can give her." He was a smart man, he'd be able to connect the dots.

She was intriguing, in every possible aspect. Even as time had passed, things had changed, they had still remained the same, and somewhere, his feelings still remained the same, they only needed to be set alight again and the smallest thing could easily rekindle them. How could he not feel for her? How could he not dwell on her beauty and the memories they shared in the passed? There was so much history held between them that they couldn’t simply smile and say their goodbyes, there had to be more. Blaze refused to let it all go so easily, to let someone he held so dear leave him again, after only finding her. Gem had left without her goodbyes, and Blaze still wasn’t prepared to hear them, he was positive it wasn’t goodbye for them, not yet.
It was now Blaze’s turn to scoff at her words, “Believe me Gem, no one will step into my shoes, no one will make you feel the way you did love.” He believed every word that left his lips. Who could possibly fill his shoes, be the guy who practically held Hogwarts in his hands, be the person who genuinely cared for the blonde bombshell who stood before him. Blaze had thought the day had passed when Gemma had slipped through his fingers and took her leave, but now it had dawned on him that the day had yet to come. Here she was, standing before him, capturing Blaze all over again. The familiar voice broke his thoughts and triggered his thinking, what was keeping his busy these days? Perhaps the fact that he was cheating on his wife, owning a brothel where the majority of girls are brutally raped, while defending death eaters as a lawyer and owning the firm, and even now, he was applying for a job at Hogwarts. Would he ever stop? With a small grin, his emerald eyes beamed at her, “I never really had plans for after school, but after graduation I decided I’d go into law and now I’m owning my own law firm while trying to get a job in Hogwarts. So yes, I could be considered a busy guy.”
She needed a good excuse. No, not an excuse, she needed to tell him the truth, Blaze needed to hear the truth more than anything. To just get up and leave everything behind was a big step, a mistake, a mistake Blaze knew Gemma was smart enough not to make. There had to be an explanation, one worth while. The last thing he wanted to hear was that she couldn’t be arsed with school anymore, she needed a ‘break’, Blaze knew that was all bullshit. Her immediate leave had left him in turmoil, she could’ve been dead for crying out loud. If they couldn’t go back in time, then he at least deserved the reason. If only he had a time turner, he could’ve changed things, he could’ve stopped her from leaving, he could’ve prevented the reason for making her leave, he could’ve possibly prevented all the hurt that had been caused. The pain she had left behind, it left a scar on Blaze. He couldn’t remember the last time he felt so bewildered and, hurt. No girl had ever hurt him emotional. Physically, yes, he had earned himself a few slaps in his time at Hogwarts, but he had never allowed a girl close enough to hurt him, except Gemma.
The smirk was forced, for a person who forced a smirk onto his lips the majority of the time, he could tell that Gemma’s smirk wasn’t genuine, nor was her teasing. A frown creased onto his lips as she turned away, and it caused him to think, would she tell him or would she lie? But when she spoke, her words could’ve fooled him to believe she was lying through her teeth. Looking at Gemma, he remained silent, absorbing her words. A daughter, her daughter. He felt his heart fall into the pit of his stomach. But who? How? “Why…why didn’t you tell me Gem?” He whispered to her.

Hearing him scoff Gemma smiled weakly, "I know." She knew there would never be anyone quite like Blaze in her life again. Hell, there would never be anyone who came even close to him in her life again. She was only lying to herself, thinking she ever be able to replace him. Blaze had been a lot to Gemma, back when they'd been at school. Yes, he'd been a good screw, but even more then that he had been a comfort too her, even made her feel special, which wasn't something she could exactly say about a good number of people. He was someone she could rely on for being there for her, and then she went and disappeared on him. Gemma felt terrible the more she thought about it, and she swallowed, taking a heavy breath. It was too late though. Coming back wasn't going to change what had happened two years ago and the time that had stretched between then and now. She didn't doubt that he had moved on. Hell, he was married, and even if that had been a marriage set up by their parents it would be impossible to believe that Blaze wasn't with someone. Gemma had made her choice, she couldn't change anything now.
Listening to him talk about his life Gemma had to chuckle when he mentioned Hogwarts. "Couldn't keep away, then?" She replied, keeping her voice light. "I guess that means I won't have to find a replacement anyways," She teased, smirking a little. Gemma didn't believe that they'd slip back into their familiar pattern, but she figured it was okay just to joke about it. Hearing about what he was do made Gemma think. She had no idea what she was doing after school. She was back at school so she could get a job to support Izzie, but that was kind of a moot point if she didn't even know what she could or wanted to do. Right now Gemma would settle for anything that helped her move out of parents and start a life of her own for herself and Izzie. Probably something at the ministry, even if Gemma hated the thought of settling for a desk job. It needed to happen, and Gemma had to be willing to make the sacrifice.
Gemma looked up, meeting his eyes for just a moment before averting her gaze again. Fiddling with her bracelet Gemma stood there, silent for a few minutes as she tried to find the right words. What could she say? No, she knew want she wanted to say. She just didn't know how. The words weren't forming properly in her head and Gemma stumbled over them, as she spoke aloud. "I couldn't. I cou-." Taking a breath Gem tried again, "I couldn't tell anyone. My own parents, they..even they're ashamed with me. I couldn't even begin to imagine what other people will think." Closing her eyes Gemma left a long sigh escape past her lips, her entire body sagging back against the shelves with the motion. "I was scared." She still was scared, of everything. What people would think, what they would say or do, how'd they react to everything. She was just putting on a brave face, but Gemma knew that wouldn't last forever.

It had been difficult to let her go, and part of him never really did. The blonde had always lurked in his mind, hunting him. At the beginning it had been hell, worse than he had ever expected. There had been times when he’d call Helena, Gemma and sometimes he’d slipped up and muttered a soft ‘Gem’ under his breath while discussing matters with Dominique. It had truly fazed him how one harmless vixen could leave him in such a state, such a mess. Often had he wondered if he had affected women in such a way with his gallivanting and roaming around from one woman to the next. Blaze was well aware that it would all come to an end soon, perhaps in ten, twenty years maybe? Possibly when he met the right woman. If Helena had been the right women then he wouldn’t be looking at Gemma the way he was, the look of longing, the feeling of regret and a wave of disappointment that he let her leave. If he hadn’t, things may have been different, and maybe he’d be a hell of a lot happier with her in his life, whether it would be friends or lovers. To have her presence with him was enough to get him through the day. Before she fled, he had used women to a certain extent, because he always had her and always wanted just her, but when she left, he no longer looked at women the way he looked at Gemma, instead he just considered them objects to satisfy his needs, exactly why he kept Helena around for so long.
Was it by chance or fate that they’d up together again, in Hogwarts. Was there a chance of finding their way back into each other’s arms or was all hope lost? Blaze needed to know before all his high hopes turned to nothing but disappointment and hurt. He didn’t expect her to come running back, at least not to him, but he had hoped that she thought of him every now and then, thought fondly of the time they spent together. Just when his mind and heart finally found peace, she slipped back into his life and landed him back on square one. Staring at her, his gleaming green eyes revealed a spark of hope, “You never had to find a replacement, and you know I’ll always offer my services to you, consider yourself lucky, that’s the special treatment you’re getting.” Deciding to play a long, he smiled in humour, “And I believe it was you who couldn’t keep away.”
Waiting, Blaze’s gaze hardened with her words. Sympathy filled him, as did a small a dose of anger, “You couldn’t tell anyone? Gemma I wasn’t just anyone, you could’ve trusted me with your life! I would have stood by you through whatever and yet you ran. Do you think so little of me?” His tone was filled with emotions, sadness, anger, disappointment and curiosity, what did she think of him. Titling his head, he stared questioningly, “The Gemma I remember didn’t give two shits what others would think or say.” After somewhat calming he took her hand, “I want to help you Gem, I do, but you need to trust me because whatever trust you had two years ago has seemingly faded quickly.” Looking down at her a frown crossed him lips, “Did you turn to the father? Please tell me you did.” Blaze whispered quietly, waiting for answers.
