Rose strut out of the castle doors and onto the grounds. It was a brisk October day, and the air was thin and chilled. Rose looked around for anyone she knew, and it seemed like she was the only one outside. Except for a few first years down by the lake, trying to see who was brave enough to take a swim. Rose pulled her jacket tighter around her body and wrapped her own hands around her waist, trying to keep warm. She walked to the edge of the forest and sat with her back against a tree. Taking a book out from the inside pocket of her jacket, Rose opened it, brought her knees to her chest, and placed the book upon them. It was a nice place to read and escape from the world. The common room was too crowded and too loud. Out here, all that she heard was the rustling of the leaves in the wind, the swaying of the trees, and the giggles of the 11-year-olds mere yards away. Rose looked up from her book to see if any of them had dared to take a dip yet. As far as she could see, all 4 of them were still on land. She smiled at the stupidity, but knew that if any of them got hurt, she would be over there helping out. It was probably her natural maternal instincts. Her view of the giggling girls was obscured as the wind blew her blonde hair into her piercing blue eyes. She brushed some of the hair behind her ear and returned to reading her book. Rose was at such peace until something around her, much closer than the giggling girls, made a slight sound. She looked up and turned her head to find the source of the disturbance.
