____________________i'm higher to fall than I've ever beenI WAS WALKING A TIGHTROPE TIL YOU CAME IN____________________ [/center]
Wandering the grounds a little to close to eleven o'clock was little Clarice Belby. Her cat had clawed at the bottom of her dorm room door, and her roommates were getting quite aggravated. Which meant either Clarice had to take the cat outside or get rid of it, and while getting rid of it would probably solve the problem altogether, Pumpkin was her first pet and there was no way on this green Earth that she was getting rid of her first cat. That meant the evening resulted in her getting out of bed with a huff, grabbing a sweater and slipping on some shoes. She figured she go just to the common room and sit by the fire, but when she got out to the big room there was a couple sitting on the couch and clearly didn't want to be disturbed. So she hissed for her cat to follow and together they walked quietly down the corridors and into the fresh air.
It was a blast of cold at first, something Clarice wasn't a big fan of, so she pulled her sweater on quick and pulled it tight around her body. "Come on sweetie," she called to the cat as she stepped down the path and toward the shadows of the night. The last thing Claire wanted was to be caught out after hours and expelled just because her cat didn't want to go to sleep yet. How would she explain that to people? The moonlight was cast down across the lawns, and so she headed toward the forest. It was off limits, Claire knew that very well, but she walked toward them anyway. She pulled her cat from the ground, and held her as they walked to the outskirts of the forest line. She wasn't going to walk in, she swore she wasn't. The forest wasn't a place that Clarice was fond of, at least not at night and when she was alone. She hugged the cat close to her and then jumped at the sound of a boom a little ways to the left.
The noise had scared the cat as well because in two second the small creature had pushed herself off of Claire and dashed his fit body toward, and then into, the woods. Claire let out a huff as she stood in her pajamas looking into the woods after her stupid cat that ran off. That was the last time she was ever getting out of bed for that cat. Claire's eyes looked around her. She could get in so much trouble for going in there. Hell, Clarice didn't even want to go in, but she had too, she couldn't let her poor cat fend for herself! So she snuggled into her sweater once more and took off in the woods, hoping no one had seen and followed her, and no one was waiting inside.

Jason Grey pulled back the sheets from his bed and shook himself awake. It took him some time to get back to complete consciousness. He looked out the window and saw a pitch black canvas lit up by bright stars in the sky. Jason was having a pretty hard time trying to get to sleep. Picking up his wand, he stood up as quietly as he could. Tip-toeing down to the Hufflepuff Common Room, he sat down in the comfortable, black leather couches furnished there. A chill went through his body due to the cold feel of the leather, but dissapeared soon.
Jason Grey thought it would be fun to be a Prefect. Staying up late, special privileges, and harrassing little kids. Well that last one did not really fit him. But being a Prefect was not all that it was cracked up to be. For example, a day like this. It was bright and starry, with a slight breeze. This was what he called his 'ideal weather'. And he did not have the time to go outside. The highlight of his day was catching a little third year punk with a box of merchandise from Weasley's Wizard Wheezes. All in all, a pretty pathetic day for Jason.
Everything seemed quiet. Everyone was probably out with dates, doing homework in their dorm rooms, or out in the Great Hall. Times like these made him ponder. About his personal life, studies, and most of all...the night his parents were killed. Every day, Jason would have nightmares of the same scene of his parents dying. It occured when he was seven years old. On the dark night of October 13th, a couple mysterious, hooded people walked up to his beautiful house. He could still remember every single detail of it. Jason Grey was playing with his restrainment wand for young children in his room. His parents were worried because of rumors and threats. This was due to the fact that they were heading a new department in the Ministry of Magic to destroy new threats of the Dark Ages. Anyways...these two same people would creep up to the house and utter a spell. Suddenly, the house would go up in flames. Jason could still hear the screams of his parents...
Shaking the thoughts from his mind, he stood up with a groan. Using a Disallusionment Charm, he cloaked himself in invisibility. Silently, he walked out of the firelit Hufflepuff common room into the dimly lit halls of Hogwarts. Some of the Prefects and Heads were still up, but he did not bother about them. Occasionally, Jason found the unusual silence in the stone halls to be disturbing. Today...he felt as if it was necessary. Working his way up from the Kitchen to the Black Lake on the Grounds, nothing seemed to be able to disrupt him. Walking out of the Prefects' Lounge on the First Floor, the Hufflepuff sighed heavily. Not a thing that he normally did. But there was a reason behind it this time. He liked to think that he was a likable and attractive guy. Of course he got plenty of stares from girls. And Jason Grey enjoyed that, though he tried stay away from Slytherin girls. But recently, his dating life had been put on a very long halt. Hopefully that would change.
On the other hand, time seemed to stop and he appeared at the bank of the great lake in an instant. Moving to the edge of the lake, Jason laid down while listening to the crashing of the waves. Looking up, he breathed in the cool winter night air. It seemed to revitalize him. The Hufflepuff shivered, but quickly came over the cold rush. Sighing deeply, Jason Grey laid his head back on the cool sand and stared up at the twinkling stars.
Suddenly, he heard the snapping of tree branches. Jason got up and pulled out his wand. Walking toward the Forbidden Forest, his face was solemn and serious. Obviously he was scared. Who wouldn't be? The Hufflepuff took one step at a time and slowly made his way to the edge of the haunted forest. After a minute of walking silently in the Forbidden Forest, he saw a shadowy sillouhette pass beyond the trees in front of him. Jason Grey swung around furiously and yelled out. "Lumos!" His face was red with anger and fright. He did not need a wand to do magic, but his spells were faster and stronger with a wand at this stage. Pointing his wand in the direction of the frozen person. As he neared the mysterious being, Jason realized it was a much less frightening girl. If his memory served right, she was a Slytherin girl in his year. But her name slipped his thoughts. "You shouldn't be out here." the Hufflepuff said. His wand was still pointing at the gleaming girl. Those were the only words that he could muster out in his shock.

Clarice hadn't known what she was thinking when she entered the forest. She could get expelled for this and something like that wasn't on her agenda. For as much as a trouble maker Claire could be, she certainly wasn't a girl that found the thought of expulsion fun. Her mother certainly wouldn't like the idea either. While both her parents would be equally upset in her behavior, it would be her mother that would pass judgment. Melinda Belby was a woman that liked order and demanded a good education from all three of her children and expulsion of her middle child was not something she wanted to happen. Mrs. Belby would certainly scold her daughter harshly, and question why she couldn't be more like her older, smarty-pants of a sister, Jane. Melinda knew that comments like that got under her skin. Clarice was her own person, and when she came to realize that at a young age, it was always individuality that differed form her siblings, that seemed to be put to the test. It was Clarice getting in trouble as a child and it was Clarice that always seemed to be the one to bring home the bad grades. While her younger brother wasn't as smart as Jane, he had more focus and intuition. Clarice was filled with ambition and heart, even if she hardly showed it. While her mother claimed to be perfect, it was Claire who had recently found out it was far from the truth. See, the sixteen year old had a bit of dirt on her mother and her mother's past history, and if this adventure of sorts led to trouble, she wouldn't be afraid to use it. Her mother would deny the accusations, Claire knew, but once the Slytherin declared to tell her father, it would be all over. Melinda would crack in order to keep their family in tact. Clarice knew that and would play it to her advantage.
However as the young girl walked the moonlit forest, she hoped it wouldn't come to that. While she didn't fit in with her family, it was her father she respected the most. The way he held strong and raised three children was amazing and Claire couldn't drop such a big bomb on him (and ruin everything for him in the process). So she hoped that the cat she was now muttering about wouldn't cause her to do such a foolish thing. Her blue eyes, which had been adjusted to the dark since she arrived outside fifteen minutes prior, now looked around the dark forest. While the Slytherin had been in the forest numerous times before this, she was certainly not used to being out there alone. Many people who knew Claire would know that right now she was a bit hesitant with each step, som e may have even gone as far to say that she was scared- not that she'd ever tell you that out loud. But it was the truth, for Clarice was scared of quite a bit more then she let on and being alone, (and being in the dark), were on the top of her list of her biggest fears. It didn't help that at this point in time she was experiencing both. Her eyes circled her surroundings as she debated whether or not to head back to her dorm room and wait to look for Pumpkin in the morning. She reached to the pocket of her robes before cursing silently to herself. She had left her wand in her school robe! Without hesitation she spun on her heel to go back. However in the five minutes since she had entered the forest, she had lost her way. This wasn't good and as she stood there Clarice tried to figure out how long she could possibly survive in these conditions. She didn't have a wand, she didn't know where she was, and she didn't know what was out there lurking to get her. The girl ran a hand through her hair as she tried to think of a plan of action. Then she saw something in the corner of her eye.
In the distance there was a faint light that seemed to be getting closer. She turned to face it while taking a few steps backward. She picked up a small broken stick from the ground, knowing fully well it wouldn't help her in a situation like this, but feeling a bit safer simply holding it. It appeared that whoever the person was knew how to work a wand, and if they wanted, they could probably be done with her in a flick of the wrist and a few muttered words. With those thoughts alone the heartbeat of the Slytherin girl seemed to increase dramatically. Before she heard the reprimanding words of the what appeared to be young boy around her age. She loosed her grip on the wimpy stick in her hand but didn't completely drop it, "I know." She spoke the words, though her voice was just a bit more audible than a whisper. She let her heart and breathing fall back in its rhythmic pattern and then her train of thoughts seemed to come back to her at a similar pace. "I know," she repeated again, her voice at it's normal decibel, "but my cat, Pumpkin, came running in here after catching a fright. I know it was stupid to come in here, but I couldn't just let her die in here without trying to find her." Her words were a bit rushed as they came out, but the entire story seemed to fluster her, especially as she let her eyes wander with the brighter light of the boy's wand. She bit her lip as she looked at him, her eyes pleading, "Please don't tell."
