Chris had been bored out of his mind as he sat at home, so work seemed (oddly) like his best option to relieve said boredom. It had been a few days since he met up with Ava and she laid question after question on him about death eaters and dark arts... it was mentally exhausting knowing other people were just as interested. It excited him, knowing he wasn't completely bonkers, but at the same time it made him wonder what had happened in Ava's life to make her specifically interested in death eaters. Generally, at least since he started taking notice, it meant someone in the family had been killed.
Shoving the thought out of his head, he walked into his office and almost latched the door, leaving it open just a crack so he could hear anyone approaching. Not that anyone would come to his office, he was just a grunt cop basically. Speaking of grunt cops... Chris opened his top desk drawer, pulling out one of his favorite snacks, donuts pretzels. Healthier than the donuts he saw people carrying around, covered in sugar and chocolate ooze. Seriously, how did anybody have the gung-ho to chase anyone down while mowing on a donut?
Pulling a couple files out of his desk, he set his little container of pretzels to the side, flipping through a recent death eater attack. The technique was the same, the spells, the brutality... it was a clear death eater strike. The question was, why a random wizard who had nothing to do with anything? At least it seemed that way. Maybe he had to dig further into the guy's past... except the name wasn't being released. "Idiots assume I'm not fit to know, I swear..." Grumbling, he pulled a pen from his blue button-up shirt and scribbled some notes next to the crime scene photo, including 'WHO IS THIS GUY?!'. Sighing, he placed the photo back in the file and moved back to his file cabinet, shoving it in and pulling out another John Doe to scribble all over.
What a day, what a plan.

It was always good when Elizabeth could blame not coming home due to work. Brian wouldn’t know what she was really up to. But seriously she was sometimes seriously up to work. And others she was just hanging around the office finding someone to talk to or actually doing some death eater work. Like seeing what the lead Aurors thought about things and why they thought it happened. Sometimes it was really entertaining what they came up with. Other times they were super close to finding the real answer. That was when Lizzy and her acting skills had to come in. Or just her beauty. Come up with something totally ridiculous or when they were far off give them a slight clue. Couldn’t do anything to let anyone know what she was really up to.
Today was a day when Lizzy was just staying in the office so she wouldn’t have to go home. The only thing at home was her husband but she didn’t love him. And she was pretty sure he didn’t love her. If he did he had a real weird way of showing it. Controlling, mean and listened to her parents every words. All reasons not to get along with Brian since she loved being her own person and breaking rules. And that was exactly why she was an Auror. It broke her husband’s rules but also showed that she was trying to do something for the death eaters. Even though she really didn’t care being a death eater or not. But her parents could never find that out. Seriously Liz would never be able to leave the house then.
While walking around the office she was fairly bored, she had a cup of tea in her hands just because she was a tad of a tea addict. Had a cup every morning but sometimes had more than one cup a day. Like now. It was better than her walking around with some sort of alcohol. However that was later tonight when she made some real money. Bartending was always a good job for her since she got to show her personality and drink. Even better since Brian had no clue that she had this job. Not a lot of people were in but when she went by one of the official’s office she noticed he was in. Now he was just a guy that she said hi to pretty much every day and sometimes he even caught her bartending. Lizzy wasn’t exactly sure if he noticed her when she bartended. She looked different then.
Knowing she had nothing better to do she walked into his office and saw the files he was looking at. Dead guy. From death eater attacks. Without anything she grabbed the file and opened up while taking a sip of her tea. She knew the guy. Well not personally but of course her husband bragged about this. Lizzy wasn’t sure if he killed the guy but he died because she was going to help out the death eaters in order to make sure his family stayed safe. Since he married a female muggle. “Must have owed them something.” Elizabeth said closing the file and putting it back on his desk. Couldn’t let anyone here know what she really did know. “Are these all Joe and Jane Does?” she asked innocently enough as Liz watched him take more filed from the filing cabinet. This sort of disturbed her since at any moment she could be called to kill someone even though her husband would be called in before her.

Chris was about to his wit's end with all the Jane and John Does coming in. Apparently no one knew who anyone was anymore even though the town wasn't all that huge. People in Las Vegas in the US would be named within hours, but here? No, it's just a death eater case, let it go. Let it be a Jane and a John, no one will know the difference. Nobody but Chris, anyway. He wondered what all these families felt, how they would react knowing the 'police' were doing nothing more than standing by, shoving their loved ones in a filing cabinet just to be ignored the rest of time. It was sickening in a way. Sure, there wasn't time to go through every single file... but if they could at least solve a few of them... it might put his mind at ease.
Munching quietly on a pretzel, his eyes peered up when he heard the slight creak of his door opening. Giving a nod in hello to the semi-familiar woman, he sighed and nodded when she looked through his file. "Must've. Or just pissed off the wrong guy at the wrong time." Either was just as valid as the other, plus the ten million other possibilities. Why did it always have to be someone unknown? The possibility of the guy being a death eater himself was always there, only the mark was missing. It had been with a lot of alleged death eaters lately. No mark, no proof, no case - Chris assumed they'd found another way to show their loyalty, or some kind of curse had been added to where if they were caught and or killed, the mark would fade into their skin. Were they that clever? No doubt. Did they care if their grunts got caught? Not as likely.
When she asked a question, Chris fully looked up at her and recognized her from the halls of the Ministry, but somewhere else he couldn't put his finger on as well. "Yeah. I've got a file cabinet full. Bloody superiors think they're nobodies and their families don't deserve closure, I guess." Shrugging with a bit of frustration lining his voice, he muttered a quick spell and a chair appeared next to her. "Feel free to sit, I could probably use some help looking through a few of these. There's a lot of missing pieces, and if you're not busy...?" Realizing he was kind of imposing on her, Chris cleared his throat and scratched his neck lightly. "Sorry, sorry. Long day, I shouldn't assume you don't have somewhere to be. I'm Chris, I don't think we've actually met yet." Standing up, he extended a hand to her and gave her a sheepish smile. Sometimes he was just so overzealous.

To know that these people who have died would probably never be named made Lizzy wish she was never part of the death eaters. Sure she loved being above people and having that power over them but everyone deserved to be put to rest with their family. But that was something the death eaters didn’t care about. These men and women were killed because they pissed off some death eater and when one death eater got pissed off they could summon a number of friends to get back at the poor guy. She was just thankful the death eaters weren’t going after children. If Brian ever went after a child she wouldn’t know what to do or do about it. Elizabeth honestly believed that her husband would finally see that she had a voice and a backbone.
She knew there should be come closure for these people. As far as she knew they have only put these people out in the wizarding world. “I would check the muggle data base for missing people. I’m thinking that these Janes and Johns have mixed blood and got mixed up with the death eaters. Keeping their bodies in this world would make it harder to identify them.” There that should help them get indentified. It did help her being a death eater but no one would ever guess that become of her. She didn’t need the mark. Her last name did it all for her. Elizabeth was pretty sure Brian had the mark on his forearm. But not so many females had it. The wives of death eaters were there mostly for support.
“They all deserve closure. Death eaters wouldn’t agree with that. But they all do. Even if some knew what they were getting into and knew death was coming their way anyways.” Explained Lizzy’s life a bit. If the death eaters even thought she was going to be a traitor she would be either killed or bound to her house for life. And wouldn’t Brian enjoy that? Having his wife home and even more submissive than ever? She honestly did try to love him but it never worked. Brian was just not someone she could fall in love with. Sure she never worried about love before but being stuck with someone she had to try. Just to try and make things easier for herself even though she had Brian fooled that she actually liked him.
With the chair appearing she took a seat like he asked her too. Missing pieces? She could probably give him a few things but didn’t want him to think that she was involved with the dark arts. Elizabeth would have to put on her best act to fool him since she really never talked to any of her other co-workers. Couldn’t get close knowing that death eaters killed aurors almost daily. “It’s all right I’m not busy.” This was much better than going home to be with Brian. If he was home and not out doing something with the dark arts. Plus Chris’ awkwardness was better than Brian’s controlling attitude. When he stood up to shake her hand she got up and shook it. “Elizabeth Loudwater. Most call me Lizzy.” She said with a smile and sat back down. She knew him from somewhere and it was definitely not from work. It was from her other job at the bar. “You like a drink now and again don’t you?” Liz asked with a smile as she took some files. Chris should be able to draw the conclusion on where he knew her from now.
