& your thoughts have taken their toll

It was pretty much official. Skylar completely hated her parents at the moment. Why? For starters, they didn't exactly favor her last few choices in boyfriends. This wasn't really a big deal, because she would eventually find the perfect somebody and they would love him almost as much as she did, right? Wrong. They decided to take matters into their own hands. Instead of letting her learn from her mistakes and grow from them like all normal parents, they decided to help her out. They found her a fiance. Now if they were just finding a nice boy and nonchalantly suggesting that she go on a date or two with him, that would be one thing; but no, they found her somebody that she was going to be forced to marry. Peachy.
Earlier the previous day, she had found out via an owl from her father. Skylar had never been able to say that she had despised her parents until this moment. How could they do this to her? After all of the awful girls her brother brought home, they never found him a fiancee. Seriously. He wasn't a completely horrible guy, but he wasn't anyone that she would choose for herself to date let alone marry. She felt like she was going to explode with all of the emotion that was built up inside of her. To make matters worse, she hadn't even bothered to tell any of her friends yet; she had just been hiding out for the past twenty-four hours and avoiding all human contact. Kind of. She went to breakfast, lunch, and classes today, but she was skipping dinner and had never been so happy that it was Friday.
Currently, Skylar was in the deserted Trophy Room. She didn't have to worry much about being disturbed for a little bit because dinner was still going on in the Great Hall for another hour or so. Meals always took awhile. Thankfully. Out of her long black robes, she produced the letter that had been brought to her the previous day and read it for what had to be the millionth time, as if trying to decipher a hidden meaning; perhaps that it was a joke or that her eyes were playing tricks on her. No, everything was written clearly in her father's neat penmanship. She was engaged, not officially yet seeing as she did not have a ring, but she was engaged none the less.
Blinking back the tears that were trying so hard to surface, Skylar leaned her head against the glass of one of the displays. She began to play with the envelope in order to distract herself. At the end of the previous year, she had began to learn wandless magic, even though it wasn't taught in school yet. A lot of people were unable to accomplish such magic, but with some practice, Skylar had been able to which was why the bright blue envelope was levitated when her wand was clearly in her pocket.
