The music was playing in the background, and people were already standing on the dancefloor and making a fool out of themselves. One person that was not enjoying it so far was a young Slytherin. Lex stood off at one of the refreshment tables and stared out at the people there. He felt ridiculous. He had no idea why he had agreed to attend this stupid dance, it was just not for him. There were too many couples and too much love going on for his liking. It made him feel slightly sick.
As one of the songs changed over to a slower gentler beat, he had had enough. The boy pushed himself away from the table and dusted himself down. Lex, as always, looked sublimely good in his clothing. Instead of wearing robes, he'd chose stylish expensive clothing. Everything about him was stylish. He sighed and took a sip from his drink, his eyes roaming around the room. Everywhere he looked people were hugging, kissing and laughing. He smirked and shook his head, knowing that the people in front of him were absolutely deluded. Almost none of them would ever stay together longer than a few months.
He began to walk, his footsteps slow and his eyes continuing to search for his friend that he had had been convinced into attending this thing with. The boy's promise that there would be lots of hot girls was not holding up. Everyone seemed to be with someone else, it was not going to happen for him tonight. This was sad news for Lex, he was in the mood for a good shag. Sadly, he thought, that was not likely even with his devilish good looks. That was when the boy's eyes fell on her face. He stared over at where she sat, looking alone and staring around her. Instantly, Lex knew that he had found her. She was in his year. It was the girl who he had always noticed was so quiet, so proper and so nice. She was one of those girls who was just screaming innocence. He frowned but sat down his glass and poured two fresh ones.
Soon he was approaching the table where she sat, in the corner. He smiled and held out the drink. "You look like you could do with a drink," He said with a small dashing smile. He pointed to a chair. "Mind if I join you?" He asked her, but sat down without waiting for an answer. Lex glanced at the girl and then out on to the dance floor. "This dance is ridiculous, eh?" He laughed.

What she was doing at this bloody dance, Emmalynn would never know. This was not the typical place for Emmalynn to be on her night away form school work. No, she would of much rather to be in her dorn room, reading a good book in piece and quiet. However, some part of her, some crazy insane part, urged her to get all dressed up to come to this dance, only to sit at a table for the whole night and watch other people have fun. Not exactly a fun time, right?
Emmalynn was not your typical beauty. Her looks were more unique than everyone elses'. She had dark, long hair, an odd jaw, and was very slim and tiny. No boys ever looked her way nor talked to her. She prefered to keep to herself, only talking when spoken to. She was a good girl, never getting into trouble nor causing trouble for anyone else. It was like she was sometimes invisable to the world. She liked it that way. It was better for her to view from the side lines than to actually be involved.
As she sat there, looking around, her eyes landed upon him. Oh she knew about him. Alexander, the player. Rumor had it that he got with almost every single girl in the entire Seventh Year, well except for Emmalynn that is. All the girls wanted to be with him, and all he wanted was to get laid. Emma had observed him from a far for awhile. He was the type of danger she feared, and the type of danger that was coming her way. She practically froze as he came up and began to talk to her. Without even a thought in her mind Emma's hand was outreached to grab the drink. What was he doing here, talking to her? Surely he had better things to do than waste his time taling to Emma, or so she thought.
"Yes it is. All this holiday is is an excuse for coples to parade their love around. I don't even know why I came," Emmalynn said in a small voice, not making eye contact with Alexander. She looked in the drink that he had gave her, searching for any hint of a potion or some kind of elixer. Taking a sniff, Emma came to the conclusion that he did nto put anything into her drink, making it safe for her to take a sip. Her eyes went back towards the crowd as she placed the drink on the table, her hands going back to her lap to play with the fabric of her dress.

She was quiet. Lex was well known with most people but he could never remember the girl ever speaking to him or even saying hello. It was strange, and it intrigued the boy. There was no denying she was a pretty girl, even if she was not exactly the type he would normally seek out. Lex knew it was all about the challenge, the fact that she was so nice and so innocent was what drew him in. He wanted to claim that innocence, and find out exactly why she seemed to be so terrified of the rest of the school.
She was the sort of girl, he knew, that would sit and read a book. Lex was the opposite, he enjoyed partying and getting messed up. He enjoyed himself, and lived like today was his last day. But he also knew he'd have to be nice, charm the girl. As he sat in the chair, he flashed her a small smile, nothing overly flirty. He looked out at the dance floor and laughed at her response, nodding his head. "Exactly how I feel about it!" He said with a nod. He had only came because of his friend, who had disappeared somewhere never to be seen again.
"I don't see you around these things much," He said, looking at her. She seemed to be awkward and fidgeting with her dress. He took a sip of his drink and nodded. "You look very nice." He complimented her with a small genuine smile. Lex drank some more from his cup. "Why did you decide to come tonight then?" he asked her, leaning against the table and relaxing into his chair, his eyes on the dark haired girl.
"I wouldn't have thought it was your scene." He said shrugging his shoulders. Lex ran a hand through his hair, his eyes still on her. "But hey, who am I to ask you? I'm here alone myself," He gave an exasperated sigh at this. The boy only hoped that he would not be leaving alone. He looked back at Emmalynn. "I can leave you alone, if you want," He offered, shrugging his shoulders.

Emmalynn wasn't used to this, talking to boys that is. She had never really talked to them before. Of coarse there was the occasional chat about homework or a quick hello, but that was it. No male has ever come over to her just to talk to her for pure enjoyment. It was slightly overwhelming to her for a moment. she continued to look down at her dress, playing with the fabric as if it were a toy. She sometimes wondered what life would be like if she was more outgoing and more popular. She knew she wouldn't like it, having grown fond to her quiet lifestyle over the years.
"I don't often come to things like this. Not my type of thing. I would much rather stay in for the night and relax," Emma said in a quiet voice. It was true, laying in bed and reading a book was much more appealing to her than spending a night out at some wild and crazy party where all everyone was doing was getting drunk and having sex. That was just to much for this quiet girl. She would rather live her parties through her books.
Emma couldn't help but place a wide smile on her face as Lex said she looked nice. That was the first time a male complimented her before. This was so insane in her eyes. How could one compliment make her feel so happy. It was like her self-esteem was lifted to one hundred percent. "Thank you," Emma said, looking up at Lex with a bug smile on her face. This smile was priceless. It was one for the ages.
"I don't know why I came. I just got an urge to come. Like something was pushing me to get all dressed up to come and sit at a table and watch other people having fun," Emma said, smiling and joking a bit. Her eyes were no longer on her dress but on Lex as he sat at the table with her. This boy, the one she knew to be a player, was captivating her. What was going on?
"You don't have to leave. That is if you don't want to leave. If you do that is fine," Emmalynn said, slightly saddened that he thought of leaving. She usually didn't care when people left her alone, but this boy, she wanted him to stay for some odd reason. There was just something about him that she like. Some dark and dangerous thing.

Lex normally liked girls who he didn't have to work hard with. It was always easy when you knew the girl was slutty, as so many of the girls at Hogwarts were. There were so many of them that just gave it up easily and who were worse than the boys. Lex liked those sort of girls, but every now and then there was nothing wrong with a bit of a change. This girl, Emmalynn, who had been so quiet and reclusive for so long had drawn his attention and she was almost calling to him to come over to her. Now he sat there, staring at the girl. She was pretty, there was no doubting that up close.
This made Lex think about why she was so goody two shoes. Why was such a girl, who was pretty enough and smart enough want to make herself an outsider to everyone around her? She chose to be quiet, and he couldn't understand it at all. He nodded his head, listening as she said she would prefer to be at the common room away from partying. He couldn't understand that, but he nodded anyway.
When Lex complimented her, he had meant it, but he was surprised by how pleased she seemed to be by it. He nodded his head and returned her smile. She really seemed to be pleased that someone had thought she looked nice. It was so refreshing, because most girls were normally arrogant and just batted it off. This was a girl who was just happy that someone had paid her a compliment. He hadn't even noticed he was smiling so much himself.
"Perhaps you just need to have fun then," He offered her when she spoke. He winked in her direction and took another sip of his drink. He shook his head. "Or perhaps something was urging you so that you'd get here and talk to me." He joked, leaning his head to the side a little. "So that I could help you have that fun like everyone else." He laughed gently and smiled. He shrugged his shoulders and took another sip.
"Well, if you won't let me leave..." He said, suddenly standing. The music had now changed and Lex was on his feet. "Why don't you let me help you have fun and dance with me?" He asked, holding out his hand and flashing her one of his most charming smiles. He reached down to take her hand.

Was Emma dreaming? She thought she was. Here she was, having an actual conversation with an actual guy for once in her life. This was insane in her eyes. She couldn't help but blush a little at the thought of he thought she looked nice and he was smiling! An actual boy was smiling at her! Her night couldn't get any better than this. Maybe staying in the common room would have been a bad choice if she would have made it. She was pretty sure this would be a night to remember.
"Well, if that is the case, I am glad that that something got me to come," Emmalynn said in yet another small voice, glancing at Lex under her lashes as yet another blush tinted her pale cheeks. Words could not express her contentment at this moment. She felt like she had died and gone to heaven, even if it was just talking to a boy. Then, her heart practically stopped when Lex asked her to dance. She could have screamed with joy right there. There was only one problem. Believe it or not, Emma had never danced before in her life. It was a crazy thing, being seventeen and not once having to dance before. She didn't know how to. Boy was this embarrassing for her but, in all the excitement, Emmalynn nodded her head yes to Lex's request.
Emma grabbed Lex's hand and stood up, letting her dress flow down in its ruffles. She was very nervous as they began to walk to the dance floor. She turned to face Lex and her face went pale, knowing she would have to confess. "I have a confession. I've never danced before in my life. It is one of the reasons why I avoid things like this. I don't know how to dance," Emma said, looking down at the ground, embarrassment and shame reading all over her. Her mother had tried to get her to go to dances and have dance lessons before but Emma had refused to, thinking she would never need such a skill in her life. Now, as she stood there facing Lex with a crowd of people dancing next to them, Emma had wished she would have taken that hour out of her day to go to those stupid lessons.

Lex was good with girls. He knew how to treat them. He knew how to make them smile, laugh and happy. Sure he did not have a good record after he slept with them, but there could be no denying that when Lex was charming, he was one of the most kind people around. His problem was afterwards when his attention was finished, the girls always got hurt. But he was not thinking about any of this now, for he was merely studying the girl in front of him. He wanted to know why Emmalynn was so reserved and so secretive.
He listened to her answer his comment and noticed how she was still shy. It was endearing to see such an innocent girl. He noticed the blush creep on to her pretty face and he just smiled gently at her. When he asked her to dance, the boy knew that she couldn't really say no. He was after all, Alexander London and he'd just put her on the spot, but he also thought it would be nice. For some reason now, Lex wanted to show this girl how much fun she really could have if she stopped being so good all of the time. He'd now made it his mission for the night. He smiled when she hesitated and then grabbed his hand and rose out of her seat.
He took a moment to check her out as she stood up, but then he led her to the dance floor. Before they could begin, she was confessing and he laughed gently. "It's no problem, don't worry," He told her. Unlike the girl, Lex was an expert at dancing. He'd been to more pureblood, rich family events than anyone could imagine and had perfected the art of dancing. He saw how her head fell and embarrassment flushed over her cheeks. His hand gently streaked out and he touched her chin, tilting her face up so that she had to look at him. "It's okay. I can teach you." He smiled gently. Lex then took her hand and placed it on his shoulder. "It's slow, so all you do is this," He gently showed her and then stopped. Lex rested a hand on her waist, but not too obviously. "Now, didn't I tell you you had nothing to worry about?" He asked as the soft music played in the background.

At that moment, Emma felt like a huge idiot for not knowing how to dance. What kind of girl does not know how to dance? Lex must have been thinking that she was a total freak, which she was. Emma had always felt like she was a freak of nature her entire life. She was always into the dark and spooky things, weird things even for a witch. That was why she was in slytherin. Even though she was a good girl who never broke the rules, Emma always felt some sort of power in the dark arts and watching people in pain. She spent most of her life watching from the side lines as people would do evil deeds. She desperately wanted to join in and show her wild side, but sadly she was scared of what could happen if she did.
Emma placed her hands on Lex's shoulders, swaying with the music and trying to keep a rhythm. She couldn't help but feel so awkward, being this tall slim figure constantly looking down at her feet. She accidentally stepped on Lex's foot, causing her to turn red in the face. "Oh I'm so sorry! I'm terrible at this! I am a total klutz," Emma said with a rather embarrassed look on her face as she look at Lex. Her eyes quickly darted away from his face, her shyness kicking in. her thoughts began to roam as she danced with Lex. Did he even know her name? She had not heard him say her name once. She knew he probably didn't, even though they had all the same classes together since first year. She was used to it, people only knowing her as the shy girl or the girl like a ghost. She liked it that way.
"So why doesn't a guy like you have a date tonight?" Emma asked, wanting to know. It was obvious why she didn't have a date. Boys didn't like her like that for the obvious reasons. She was too awkward but Lex was anything but awkward. He was handsome and fun which was the reason why most girls flocked to him. There would have to be some reason why he didn't have some beautiful blond girl on his side.

Lex could sense that Emmalynn was beyond embarrassed, she was mortified that she had to dance when she really didn't know how to. The boy was beginning to wish he hadn't actually asked her, not because she couldn't dance but because it had embarrassed her and made the entire situation alot more awkward. Still, Lex smiled gently as she seemed to follow his instructions and place her hands on his shoulders. He tried to lead with the dancing, ensuring that no one around them would be drawn to her less than perfect movements. He would make her look as good as possible.
He gently laughed when she apologised for standing on his feet. The young man looked down and shook his head. "Oh don't worry about it, just relax. You're too tense." he told her with another small encouraging smile. Half of the battle with dancing was being able to relax, enjoy the music and just let your body go with the rhythm. Lex noticed how she avoided looking at him and inwardly smiled. There was always the slim chance that she wasn't attracted to him but her shyness and reluctance to look at him told him that it was not the case. "Relax, Emmalynn," He repeated with another friendly smile.
The boy then took a step towards her, closing the distance between the two of them and making the dance look alot more natural. From this close, he could see just how pretty she was. She had a different kind of beauty, but he was finding he liked it. He had never really noticed it before. He laughed at her question and lifted his eyebrows. "What do you mean a guy like me?" He asked her. Lex smiled to reassure her he was only kidding. "Maybe I just didn't have any girls interested in me." He offered her an answer. Lex kept dancing and looking at Emmalynn, trying to get her to meet his eye. "Besides, I am quite happy to be dancing with you, so it doesn't matter." He was turning on the charm now.

Emma tried to relax and just loosen up but everything was so overwhelming to her. Here she was, dancing with a handsome guy who seemed to actually have an interest in her. This has never in her life happened to her before nor did she ever picture this happening to her either. What had she done to deserve this happening to her? Usually all the pretty and popular people got the breaks in life. Maybe this was her time to shine.
"I'm trying to relax! Who knew dancing could be so hard," Emmalynn said with a shy smile on her face as she tried to relax. Then Lex said something that made her smile and gleam with glee. He said her name. Someone actually knew her name. A smile the size of a quidditch pitch grew on her face. There was a twinkle in her eye as she looked at Lex. She couldn't believe that he knew her name. No one knew her name! Maybe he was interested in her. Emma gained so much confidence with that one uttering of a name that she began to relax and dance gracefully as if she had been doing it all of her life.
"Oh please, almost every girl in our entire year is interested in you. I just mean that I often see you with a girl on your side. You are like the a lady's man," Emma said, laughing a bit. You could tell that her confidence level was rising immensely at this point. She was very relaxed and happy. However her insecurities and shyness were still inside her.
"You.. You are happy dancing with m..me?" Emma stuttered in utter shock. No one had ever said that they were happy spending any time with Emmalynn before. This night just kept getting weirder and weirder. Maybe it was a dream. Maybe she would wake up in her dorm bed at any moment now. Though she hoped it was not a dream, she couldn't help but think it was. After all, things like this never happen to her and it was so unreal.

Lex was at complete ease. He was surprised how easy it was to talk with the girl. Sometimes he struggled with the conversation, because whether Lex would admit it or not, he flirted with an awful lot of thick airheads. This Emmalynn girl was different though, even if it was surprising for the young man. He normally cared little about what they talked about, but so far he was enjoying the conversation that was flowing nicely. He smiled and nodded his head. Sure, he was trying to seduce her, but he couldn't deny that she seemed like a nice person.
He laughed and nodded his head. "It's okay." He told her with a grin. He could understand how difficult it might be for her. He kept dancing, noticing how she smiled shyly at him. She had a nice smile. It was one of those smiles girls rarely gave him. It wasn't a sexy smile, it was just a genuine one. It made him grin himself. Lex noticed that she seemed to relax almost instantly and frowned, wondering what had caused the huge change. He decided not to bring it up, just happy that she was dancing nicely and seemed to be more calm.
Lex laughed outloud and shrugged his shoulders lightly. He placed his other hand on her waist and shook his head. "I suppose you're right." He said sighing. He shut his eyes and opened them again. "I'm not surprised you say that," He seemed to frown. "I mean, I guess I am, but there's more to me than that." Lex couldn't believe he was telling her this. He had sometimes worried that girls only ever cared about his ability in the bedroom and his good looks. He'd never really had a relationship after all. He seemed to get embarrassed by his moment of weakness and looked away.
He nodded, looking back at her when she asked him a question. "Yes. I'm very happy." He said. The music was still playing gently in the background and Lex could see a couple of girls pointing in their direction. He didn't even pay them any attention. He smiled at her. "Besides," He smiled warmly. "I only dance with pretty girls." He flirted with a small chuckle. He continued to dance with her, wondering whether she'd get embarrassed by his comment. "And because you're the prettiest here, I'm honoured."

As Emma danced with Lex, she gazed around the tent, looking at everyone. She felt many envious eyes from many girls on her because she was dancing with Lex. For once, people were actually jealous of her and wanted to be in her shoes. She couldn't help but feel special but yet so exposed. The many eyes on her were making her very paranoid but she shook it off. She didn't want anything to ruin this night. It may just be the best night of her life.
"Of coarse there is more to you than that. There is more to anyone than what people see on the outside. I mean look at me. All people see on the outside is a shy girl, though I am much more than that. I don't care that you are a lady's man. I want to know the inside you," Emma said with yet another shy smile on her face. She really felt that Lex was opening up to her and she liked it a lot. She knew that there was more to him than just being a lady's man. She didn't care if he was one. She wanted to get to know the Lex on the inside. She wanted to judge for herself if he was a good person or not.
As she listened to what Lex said next she felt her heart skip a beat. He just called her the prettiest girl in the whole room. Never had anyone said that in her life. She was so overwhlemed at this point. She didn't know how to respond. Her cheeks grew a dark shade of red and she gazed at the ground. It was as though her lungs forgot how to work and she could not breath. Emma looked up at Lex and tried to gain words. "I.. I have to go," Emma managed to say.
Then, like a professional runner, Emma removed her arms from Lex and ran out of the tent. She held her breath until she was in the open night sky and her feet touched the snow packed earth. Many eyes were on her as she raced away from the crowds to an open and deserted field. Though there was some snow on the ground, Emma collapsed to the ground and sat down. Her dressed laid everywhere as she put her head in her hands. She didn't know why she just ran out on Lex. She was not used to people being so nice to her and she didn't want to get hurt. She never let anyone get that close to her before.

Lex didn't like the fact that the girls would staring at them. He wasn't worried about them, but he could almost feel her tensing up as she danced when she noticed. It had been going so well and now he was in fear of things getting messed up. He told himself that he would just have to ensure she relaxed again, and began to start thinking on how he could do that. He continued to dance, not bothering to pay any attention to the other girls. He wasn't sure why, but he liked the fact that the girl seemed to think she was special. It was something she didn't get alot, and he got a strange satisfaction in changing that.
He blinked and listened to her speak, saying that she liked to find out more about him. He was surprised but nodded his head. "I thought you were just a shy girl, I will admit." He nodded his head. Alot of his friends had actually labelled her a bit of a weirdo, but Lex was beginning to learn that wasn't true at all. "I'd like to see a little more of the girl you've been hiding away from everyone," He told her with a small smile. This was weird. He wanted to sleep with her, but he was also encouraging her to get to know him and vice versa.
Lex was sure she'd get embarrassed by his compliment, but he didn't see the reaction that she gave. He watched as she released her grip on him adn disappeared, showing unusally quick speed in doing so. He bit his lip, noticing the many people staring at him now. He really didn't know if he should follow Emma, because the girl was so shy. Did she want him to? He didn't know. But he felt like he needed to and wanted to. He began to walk out, passing a few people on the way and ignoring a few girls who tried to take his arm and replace her with the dancing.
It took him a few minutes, but he finally found the girl, sitting on the snowy grass, looking a little upset. He quietly walked towards her. "Emmalynn?" He said gently, not wanting to scare her. He smiled weakly. "I'm sorry," He said, actually meaning it. He hadn't meant to upset her. "I didn't mean anything by it... I mean, I did. Because I think you are really pretty, well beautiful, but," He stopped, realizing he was blabbering on. He sighed and took a few steps towards her, his footsteps showing on the snow. "I didn't mean to scare you or offend you. I understand if you were weirded out by me telling you that."

As Emmalynn said on the ground, she realized what she had just done. She just ran out on a guy who actually took the time to talk and dance with her. She felt like such an idiot. She knew he probably didn't care though. He probably already found some other girl to dance with and was probably snogging the life out of her at that moment. Why did she have to be so awkward and shy? Emma always wished that she could be more outgoing like everyone else. She wanted to fit in and have actual friends. No matter how much she tried she knew she couldn't be like that though.
Emmalynn's thoughts were broken as she heard footsteps approach her. She lifted up her head to see Lex and couldn't help but feel a tad bit happy. He had came for her. Maybe he relaly did like her. Emma knew she shouldn't get her hopes up like that but she couldn't help it. A boy actually seemed to care for her and she loved it. She tried to muster up a reason as to why she ran out. She knew she had to be honest with Lex.
"I wasn't weirded out by you saying that. I'm sorry for running out. It is just everything was so overwhelming. I'm not used to someone being nice to me or telling me that I am pretty. Actually no one has ever told me that. Everyone was watching us and then I couldn't breathe so I had to get out of there. I'm not used to being the center of attention. No one ever pays any attention to me," Emmalynn managed to say in a quiet voice. She wasn't used to expressing her feelings like that. She usually kept them deep inside her where they would stay and would not be heard by anyone. It was a real challenge for her just now to say what she was thinking to Alexander. Hopefully he did not think she was a major freak or loser.

Lex didn't know why he was out there. Emmalynn was right after all, he could have found another girl quite easily. He'd approached her at the beginning of the night because he wanted to be the one to seduce her, because he saw her as a bit of a challenge. He now felt bad about that. He saw her as a challenge now, but the challenge was to get to know her and find out why she was so reclusive and would not let anyone in. He wanted to find out why she wasn't one of the popular girls, like she should have been.
She was smarter, prettier and generally a lot more nicer than the girls he'd normally been with. So he couldn't understand it. He took a seat beside her on the snow, his suit getting a little damp but he didn't care. The boy listened to her speak and nodded his head. He sighed and shook his head. "I'm sorry. I should have known that." He said nodding his head. He scratched his head and ran a hand through his hair. "You should be more open, then you'd be the center of attention and the reason every boy would go to places." He wanted her to feel special, for some unknown reason.
"I want to make you realize you're just as good as everyone else." He whispered. Lex knew he was about to do it before he even did. He'd reached out and gently kissed her. It wasn't a kiss he usually did, normally they were passionate and full of lust. This was gentle, soft and nice. He pressed his lips against hers.
