Anton was stressing as he walked to his father's office. He hadn't seen Robert since his last prefect assignment. And that was even before he was turned into a vampire. There were many things that he needed his dad to know, and he needed to be the one to tell him. Anton had good reason to believe that his father would be livid, pissed off to no end just with the knowledge of who his son was dating. And then on top of that, another topic had to be discussed. How would it come out? "Oh hey dad, I forgot to mention that I'm a vampire. Have been for a few weeks now. My soul is gone and I'm going to live forever until someone kills me. I hope that person isn't you." The conversation was run through over and over again in Anton's mind, and each outcome was the same. His father getting so upset that Anton was left on the floor of his office. It had never happened before, but with everything happening at the moment, one little thing might set him off.
One thing that had happened recently that hurt his father was the marriage of his daughter. Even Anton was surprised that she ran off and got married to James, not even inviting her brother. But their dad took it the worst. Anton had let it all go, after all, kelsey was a pretty independent person and she didn't need to have the approval of her family on a matter she felt a certain way about. Anton hoped that his father wasn't mad at him for staying neutral on the whole wedding subject.
The descent to the headmaster's office was like a walk of death. Each step brought Anton closer to Robert and the truth being let out. Soon enough, he was standing in front of the door. He knocked once and let himself in. Not looking around to see if his father was even there, he walked to an empty chair in front of the large desk, and sat down. He could hear a heartbeat coming from somewhere in the room, so he knew his dad was there. "We need to talk." His voice was grave, and his gaze went to his feet. Despite his confidence everywhere else, whenever he was in front of his father, solemnity engulfed him and he was extremely mature. Anton hoped desperately that his appearance hadn't changed a whole lot since the change, even though he knew it was noticeable. If his heart could have been beating, it would be at a thousand miles an hour.

Robert treated his sons much different from Kelsey. He was more harder on them. It was really the only way he knew how to parent. His father had been harsh on him, trained him to be what he was today. It was all Robert knew so, he did the same but, to a less degree. His father had made him do some pretty grim things in his Hogwarts days. Such things did still haunt him today in his sleep.
Robert again found himself with a drink in his hand, staring at that old family pictures. He had once considered removing it but, he couldn't It was the one thing that was holding the shards of him together. It was enough to keep him sane, for now. Fate seemed to loath this LeBlanc. The news of his eldest son's relationship with a Weasley was most definitely a blow. He didn't understand how his son, Anton, could choose a Weasley like Kelsey chose Potter. If they thought love had anything to do with it, they were wrong. Robert hadn't seen Anton for some time. Actually, he avoiding his son since the Weasley brought him the announcement.
Robert could deal with one child with one of them. But, a second? It was enough to push Robert over the edge. He was on the fringe of jumping of the ledge and just throwing himself completely in Death Eater work. Robert couldn't just abandon his family, despite what they might think. He just hoped that his daughter's marriage would end and that his son's relationship would end as well.
The night before, Robert hadn't slept a wink. In fact, in the past few weeks, Robert was lucky to get three hours of sleep a night. The lack of a proper rest was indeed taking it's toll on him. He looked pale and sickly. His eyes were as dark as the night, complete with dark circles around them. The only thing that kept him running was the constant intake of alcohol. Robert was several feet from his desk when he heard someone enter the room. Robert turned to see just who it was. Anton was the last person Robert expected to see in his office.
The grave tone in Anton's voice actually scared Robert. What the hell was there to talk about? Robert ran his hand over his face. His facial hair scratched at his hand. Robert hadn't shaved in weeks and was not beginning to sport a short beard. It made him look even more ragged than he already did. Sighing heavily, Robert sat down at his desk, and opening poured himself a drink. He assumed that a drink would be needed for the conversation. "Son," he said in a deep, bitter voice. "your little girlfriend already told me. Frankly, I don't want to discuss it," he said, surprisingly calm. Robert only assumed that this was the topic Anton wished to discuss. The Weasley girl probably told him about Roberts irrational reaction. Robert didn't know just how wrong his assumption was - again.

His father was soon sitting in front of him. He didn't look very good at all, and Anton wished that he had waited for a day that his dad had slept the night before so he wasn't on the edge. His facial hair had begun to make an appearance and it made him look even more grave than usual. Robert LeBlanc looked like he was about to blow up and ruin everything, more so than he already had.
Anton always thought of himself being close to his father, way more than his mother and siblings. He showed a great respect for him and followed his every order. But when he wasn't around for a long period of time, Anton's respect dwindled. He turned to his siblings to fill the void and make up for lost time. And now that his father took the position of Headmaster, Anton felt like he was just doing it to keep watch over his children. Look where it got them. Kelsey was married to James Potter and he was dating Dominique Weasley. The last names of their partners would kill his father. Taking that position really drove the family apart further than they already were.
"Son," he said in a deep, bitter voice. "your little girlfriend already told me. Frankly, I don't want to discuss it,"
Anton's patience was wearing thin already. His father might know about that, but there was no way that he knew about the other topic; the vampire situation. His father's tone didn't soothe any emotions either. "I think we need to. I know how you already feel about it. But if you don't want to, fine." His tone mirrored his father. Disrespect was the underlying message he wanted to get across. "But that's not the only thing that we need to talk about." Some thought needed to be used before Anton just blurted out what he really needed to share.
On one hand, Anton could really care less about his father knowing. He knew that his father would most likely just kick him out of his office and never talk to him again. But then again, what if his father felt sorry about the whole thing. It was impossible. He figured that the best way to tell him was to start at the beginning. "One night when i was out on prefects duty, i was outside and i thought i saw something. I walked over to it, i was so tired and out of it. It was a deer, and it was dead. I didn't realize... Anyways, i turned around and saw someone running away. I stopped them and we fought. And..." Anton was looking at his father. His eyes burned red with nervousness, anger, regret, everything. Anton's pale skin made him look so solemn, his father better know that the issue was serious. "I was bitten." The rest he would leave up to his father to figure out, and if he couldn't, he needed to stop drinking.

Robert was well aware that his eldest son no longer saw him in the same light anymore. Again, Robert was the only one to blame. He took a deep sip of his drink. He didn't care if Anton was right in front of him or not. He didn't even care if he was fired from this bloody job either. Everything Robert cared about was being destroyed. He thought that being here would help things. Robert was beginning to realize that this job was severing what was left of his relationship with his children. Plus, Robert was drinking more and more every day.
Robert rubbed his temples with his palms. He just didn't want to talk about that bloody girl. Rob knew that it wouldn't be a civil, normal father-son conversation. He wasn't sure of himself anymore. Plus, he was just loosing control of his temper more easily. That was not safe for anyone near him. His recent heavy drinking had a hand in that. Robert looked at Anton with dark, empty eyes. What else could there be to discuss? Robert didn't think Anton would even care that he was turning into an alcoholic. In fact, Robert felt that maybe he even wished him dead. Robert wished himself dead sometimes, too. He would not blame Anton for thinking that.
Robert did sit up a little more as Anton began his story. He was trying to figure out where the hell it was going. A dead deer had been reported to him but, Robert thought nothing of it. He knew there were a few vampires at Hogwarts. He allowed them to have their - feedings in the Forbidden Forest. Robert frowned slightly as Anton mentioned that he fought with the mysterious person. Robert wanted to ask if he kicked the crap out of him. That would be something to make him proud. That idea was thrown out when Anton said he was bitten.
Robert's face changed to pure stone. He examined his son more closely. Robert shook his head slightly. No, he didn't want to believe it. He son - he couldn't be a ....no. Robert closed his eyes for a few moments. "When did this happen?" he asked, his voice shaking slightly. Robert just feared that his assumption was right. He didn't want to believe that Anton was a....he didn't even want to think the word. If it was true, Robert would indeed in be angry - not with Anton, as the situation was not his fault. Robert would make it his mission to kill the vampire that did it. Robert wanted to confirm his theory with Anton but, the words stuck in his throat.

The look on his father's face said it all. He was angry, disappointed, all the things that a son never wanted his father to feel towards him. Anton couldn't believe it. All of the planning had never prepared himself for how he felt when he saw the reaction of his dad, sitting in front of him. "Dad... I'm sorry." He really was. He felt like a complete failure. And now he had to continue on. Anton didn't make eye contact, he felt like crawling into the farthest corner of his chair and hiding from Robert's gaze. It was a terrible feeling. Not wanting to look like a coward, he turned his frosty eyes and looked directly into his fathers. "It happened a few weeks ago. That's why i haven't really been around." His thoughts began to work overtime. What if his dad really wasn't mad at him, but with who changed him? What if all of his assumptions were wrong? It'd be a cold day in hell when that happened.
Even if Robert LeBlanc wasn't upset with his son for becoming a monster, he was still going to be upset with the fact that he was dating Dominique weasley. He must have felt like all of his children were betraying him and dating weasley's and Potters. It wasn't their choice, it just happened to be that the people they loved had the last names. And if his father couldn't understand that, then maybe he was better off staying away. But before the end of this conversation, Anton planned on finding out what his views were on the couple.
The couple. Dom had apparently talked to him earlier than him, and a part of Anton wished she hadn't. What went on during that conversation? Did he yell at her? Did he make her cry? Why hadn't she told him that she had. It must have been bad. If Anton heard that his father had hurt her in any way, he would have an angry, newborn vampire after him.
The drink that sat on the desk between him and his father said the world. Anton wished that he was still close to his father, they had so many good times together. Anton idolized him for the majority of his life, and then it was all stripped away with one action. The only thing that mattered and stuck in the young LeBlanc's mind. His father would have to do a lot to make it up to him. But the drink, the drink was a bad sign. His father was clearly hitting the bottle pretty hard, just one look at his dad would prove it. Anton hated the thought, but it was the truth. Another subject for him and his dad to discuss.

A few weeks? He waited a few weeks to tell him? Robert scratched his jaw. He knew he would have to make an official report about this. If a vampire student, or professor, was out biting other students - the party could no longer stay at Hogwarts. Not if they were posing a threat to other students. This is a school for wizards, not vampires. "Why didn't you tell me when it happened?" Robert asked, finding a piece of parchment. He dipped a quill in front of him in ink, and scribbled down a few notes.
"Did you see who did it?" Robert asked, as calmly as possible. He was trying to stay calm about it, trying not to direct his anger toward Anton. It was one of Robert's problems - something he had been working on, that was controlling his temper. He had a habit of lashing out at whom ever was closest to him. Most of the time it had been his family. That had cost him more than they even knew. Now, everything he had been working for was falling apart. Controlling himself was the last thing on his list right now. His fondness of drinking lately, was not helping things either.
Robert sighed and leaned back in his chair. He took a deep sip from his glass. It was funny, he was so used to it now that he could drink this stuff like it was water. "You know," Robert shook his head. "I don't quite get it. First your sister, and now you?" Setting down the glass, Robert rubbed his jaw once more. The situation with Kelsey was much more problematic than this one. He could handle a vampire for a son. Children are suppose to outlive their parents anyhow. It just didn't help that Kelsey was a horocrux and didn't know it. No one knew really, only himself, his wife - and Bellatrix.
"Don't give the 'we couldn't help it' crap," Robert said, carrying on with it. Anton wanted to talk about so, Robert was talking about it. He didn't care if Anton didn't like what he had to say. He could kill him right now, on the spot, for he cared. Robert would welcome it. "You know, you had potential to do things, to become something. Now, that potential is essentially gone. My father's legacy - his loyalty is gone after I die." Robert shook his head once more, and drained the rest of his glass. He immediately refilled it.

Anton felt like his father was being selfish. Why hadn't Anton told him when it happened. Hmmm... There was only about a hundred reasons. First and most importantly, was because he thought his father would think less of him. Anton had spent his entire life trying to show his father that he was the best child anyone could ask for, and being a vampire might ruin it all. Another was that he couldn't even be around people for a few weeks, Dom was lucky that she was still human. But if it weren't for her, he would be dead, for a second time. The third, Anton didn't want to make a big deal out of it. His father would have sent out the villagers with torches and pitch forks after the kid that did it to him. And that's the last thing Anton wanted, more attention.
"Did you see who did it?"
There it was, the only question that Anton didn't want to be asked. Not that he liked the kid that bit him, but he couldn't just turn him over, knowing what his father could do. "Ummm, no. No i didn't. It was erm... Pretty dark." It was a lie, but there wasn't a chance of anton giving up Beryx's name, especially with Robert in such a state. He hoped that his father didn't push the issue, but figured he would.
"You know," Robert shook his head. "I don't quite get it. First your sister, and now you?"
Anton clenched his fists, causing his nails to dig into his palms. His father was really going to discuss his new girlfriend this way? "Dad... I thought you said you didn't want to talk about this?" He had never said anything of that sort, questioned him that way. But Anton really didn't need his approval. "I don't want your okay to date Dom, i'm going to do it anyway. And i wouldn't chastise me on what i should be doing with my life, look in the mirror. Drinking away your sorrows. What would mom say?" He was surprised in his own courage. But it was the truth. There was no way he was going to let his dad boss him around, tell him who to date, when his own life was a complete and utter mess.
"You know, you had potential to do things, to become something. Now, that potential is essentially gone. My father's legacy - his loyalty is gone after I die."
The confirmation that his father had given up on him stung like a thousand bee stings. An entire lifetime of proving himself to Robert LeBlanc would never amount to what he wanted his son to be. "I still have potential, just not to marry who you want me to." Hate intertwined itself within each letter of the sentence he spoke. His stomach dropped, hurt by the disappointment that filled his father's voice. "And what did grandfather do that was so great?" It was a sore spot for his father, after all, Anton thought that he idolized his dad. Oh well, this conversation was bound to end sour, why not end it sooner?

Robert pierced his stare into Anton. A small smirk played at his lips. If Anton thought Robert wouldn't be able to tell a lie, he was wrong. Robert said nothing more on the subject, and didn't bother to make note of it. "Oh, alright," Robert said calmly. It just disturbed him that his son's life was forever altered. Robert regretted not being out there to save him. It was just one of the many things Robert regretted in his life.
Robert looked at Anton, quite surprised. This was probably the first time Anton had ever spoken to Robert like that. Deep down, he was proud that Anton was standing up to him. Robert was sure that over the holiday break his wife figured out Robert's affair - with alcohol. He didn't say a word but, simple emptied his glass once more and refilled it. "Drinking away my sorrows..." he muttered to himself. "So," he said louder, so Anton could hear. "Your suddenly concerned with my health. Hmph!" Robert said. "Look, I know you, your sister, and your brother all hate me, so why be concerned with what I do?" He knew his own children opinions of him was not really all that great. Robert was trying to fix that but, failing miserably.
Anger washed over Robert's and he slammed his fist on his desk. Robert absolutely hated any mention of his father. He knew he was like his father but, Robert's father had been ten times worse than he was. All his father really did was beat Robert within inches of his life, more than once, and killed countless muggles and half-bloods for the thrill of it. His father had been a monster. Robert never told his children entirely about him. He stared at Anton, unblinking. He really didn't have an answer to that. "My father's dead. That's his greatest accomplishment - dying a slow, painful death," he said through gritted teeth.

Your suddenly concerned with my health. Hmph!" Robert said. "Look, I know you, your sister, and your brother all hate me, so why be concerned with what I do?"
Anton wished that what his father just said was a lie, but all the LeBlanc's could see that the children truly didn't enjoy the company of their dad. "Yeah, you know what? I really am concerned about your health. You might not think so, and even though i may not like you, you deserve to live healthfully with mother." Anton was now leaning forward. "She may be the last one that still loves you, don't waste it." He hoped that he had gotten the point across. Despite the fact that Anton wanted to strangle his father for not being there, for not being a proper dad, he needed his mother to be happy. Even if that meant being with the alcoholic that was sitting in front of him at the moment.
"My father's dead. That's his greatest accomplishment - dying a slow, painful death,"
After Anton's comment about Robert's father, there was a slam on the desk, and he looked up to see his dad with his fist against the top of it. Never in his seventeen years of life did Anton hear his dad talk about his father, not a once. And now he understood why. He despised him even more than he hated Robert. Questions flew into his mind. Why wasn't he trying to be different, be involved in his children's lives in a good way? He should have at least tried a little harder. Anton had a hard time feeling sorry for him, after all he'd done. "Oh save it. You might not like the way your father was, but by the way you're acting, you are the same exact man he was." It was bound to hit another nerve, but at least he was starting to voice his opinion in front of his father. He just shouldn't push it too far. None of the LeBlanc's had seen what their father could really do, and Anton guessed it was a lot of damage.

Robert snorted. Anton thought his mother was so perfect did he? He didn't know the half of it. Robert's entire relationship with his wife was full of lies. Robert lied to her, and she knew it. She lied to him, and he knew it. The pair would probably be much better off separated but, deep down, a part of Robert did love the mother of his children. At one point, they had been really happy together. They each equally had fault in their current state.
Robert believed he did not deserve to live happy. Looking back, he was a horrible person. His attempts to correct that all seemed to be failing miserably. So, why not make life shorter? He wanted to enjoy what he could before the end of his time, whenever that would be. A functioning liver isnt' really that important is it? Hell, they were wizards! For all Robert knew, he could live to be three hundred years old, though he preferred not to.
Robert's nostrils flared. He wasn't anywhere near what his father was. In the beginning, he tried to be the better parent, to not become what his father was. It was hard for him not to turn out how he was today. The form of parenting Robert received from his father was all he knew. He didn't know how to be the loving, caring, father he was suppose to be. Never in his life had he experienced it for himself. How can you be something you don't know? Again, Robert's fist came in contact with his desk. "Did I ever lay a hand on you? No. Did I ever bring you within an inch of you life? No. Did I ever teach you the Cruciatus Curse by casting it on you? NO!" Robert's voice broke slightly at the painful memory. "Don't you ever compare me to that bastard when you have no idea!" he said, his voice rising to a booming volume.

"Did I ever lay a hand on you? No. Did I ever bring you within an inch of you life? No. Did I ever teach you the Cruciatus Curse by casting it on you? NO!"
At this point, Anton's blood was boiling. He despised his father for thinking that he was anything better than his. "At least he didn't leave you! Leave you all alone to take care of the family! I think that i would prefer the cruciatus curse." Anton no longer had control. He stood and all he could see was red. He walked to a wall and punched it, creating a large crater in the stone. Next he went after the table that sat under where he just punched. He knocked everything off of it and then picked it up, launching it across the room. His rage had finally taken control and he didn't know when it would stop. His path of destruction continued around half of the room until he finally stopped. He was then standing with his back to his father, looking at an old family photo.
Anton stood in the middle, kelsey and vince on either side. And then his parents stood behind them. He grabbed the picture frame and smashed it into the wall. The one question on his mind was where did it all go? The happiness, content, it was all gone in the blink of an eye. Words came out again. "Yeah, you're right, i won't compare you to him again, you're worse." Trying to hide how upset he was, he turned and headed towards the door. Redemption seemed so far away...

Althought Robert didn't show it, Anton's words stung. Leaving his family had been a decision to protect them from what he was involved in. He was out doing terrible Death Eater deeds, trying to piece things back together - at least up until when Bellatrix returned. Robert sat rather calmly and just observed Anton go off in his little rage destruction. He wonder if it was something he inherited, or if it was that vampire thing. Robert wasn't worried about stopping Anton. He knew that it wouldn't do any good, having been to a point like that several times. In fact, his office had received the same treatment Anton was giving it a few times in the past few weeks - since Robert started drinking actually.
While Anton stood, staring at the photo, Robert poured himself another and drank it. Why? All the usual reasons; he was thirsty, he had nothing better to do. Antons outburst was just another confirmation in Robert's mind that his children were not fond of him. Despite what they told him, he believed they didn't want much to do with him and he didn't blame them. Robert stared at the half-full glass in his hand. "I'm worse? You know why I left? Would it make you feel better?" he asked, not looking up. Robert didn't wait for a response but, just answered the question. "I left to protect my family. I thought leaving while I was....doing horrible things was the best for all of you. Obviously, I was wrong."
Admitting he was wrong was something Robert barely ever did, in front of anything. This, however, was more important than anything. He had admitted once to Kelsey that he was wrong for leaving them, and even then their relationship was still rocky. Again, it was mostly Robert's fault, even though Kelsey sometimes deliberately pushed his buttons. "I failed with all of you in some way or other. I failed as a father and husband," Robert cleared his throat, and set down his glass. He took out his wand from the desk drawer, and waved it here, and there, mumbled an incantation or do, and the room restored itself.
