It was yet another day as Conn liesurely made his way through the bustling streets of Diagon Alley. Even though the weather was freezing, with already a layer of snow on the ground, the young thief was in good spirits. The previous night his exploits and schemes seemed to run like clockwork and now his tattered leather wallet was lined with bills and his pockets with galleons. He was in such a good mood, he made his way to the candy shop and actually bought a sack of his own to enjoy as he roamed, occasionally helping himself to anything valuable within reach.
A few hours passed and the sun now was fading beneath the distant horizon. Even though he wore his leather jacket and long jeans, Conn was definitely becoming to cold for comfort. So to remedy this, the thief once again stood in line to a nearby vender selling hot cocao. The second time in a day he was actually going to buy something. If he wasn't too careful, this might make him an honest citizen. So now he stood in line with 4 people ahead of him and now a little girl just behind. Little did he know he was about to be made a target...

life is a masquerade ------------------------------------- today seemed like it was going to be a good day for the seven year old. people where bustling threw the streets, pockets lined with money from the holidays, and not even worrying about a small girl who passed by not even bum pin giant them to steal their valuables.and so far todays she had already loaded up on her stash. only a few brackets and watches, nothing she could use to buy food or something warm to drink, which she was in dire need of at this moment.
kade's feet where only covered by then flats, that didn't keep her feet very warm, a pair of jeans, and a orange sweater covered by a very thin coat, least to say she was very cold.
even though she was freezing she didn't let that stop her from scoping out her next victim. when she needed money was the time she actually watched the people. she tried to see who had a bigger load of cash and wouldn't notice a few dollars missing. when she was sitting in the candy shop, attempting to warm up she watched a man walk in and buy some good, his pockets rattling with coins softly, and his wallet packed with money. "bingo." she whispered to herself. watching him leave she followed close behind, but stayed unnoticed for about three hours.
when he finally stopped in line to buy something else, cocoa this time she took her opportunity. walking up behind him she slipped her very tiny hand into his pocket, without making a sound or moving his clothes she pulled out the wallet and stuck it in her jacket pocket. once it was there she pulled out a good bit of the money and went to return her wallet to the mans pocket, once she dropped it into the lining of his pocket, which was a stupid thing to do, but she knew that he would notice his wallet missing if she didn't, and she was still young so she didn't really know the trade that well, pulling her arm away she felt someone grip onto her wrist. her heart stopped and she didn't dare look up at him. -------------------------------------

He couldn't believe is eyes. He actually didn't see it happen, but as soon as he notice the change in weight as well as the soft sound of scratching paper, his thieving alarm sounded in his brain and instinctively he quickly grabbed the wrist that held the wallet. It was then he looked at her with his pale blue eyes as she looked away innocently. Had this little lass actually tried to rob him? It was impressive that she had made it as far as she did without him knowing in the beginning. Con was usually the best and noticing his own kind, but it had been ages since he saw a kid trying it, This one had promise.
As he had been watching her, the line ahead of him had vanished, leaving him as the next customer. So with the expert of a true performer, he picked her up as if she was his and walked up to the counter, "Evenin' love. I'd like two pints of the hot chocolate." He then handed the vendor the money, but as the woman started to fix their drinks he switched the change with a much smaller bill and in addition swiped a few scones without her taking another glance.
After a minute or so the lady gave him the drinks and he handed one to her then made his way to the park, letting her down as soon as he was sure no one was watching. Taking a seat on the nearest bench he gave her a wink and a smirk, "Next time you start messing with my wallet, remember whose the king.." At that time he then took out what he had put in his pockets and showed her it was the watches and braclets she had gotten from previous exploits...

life is a masquerade ------------------------------------- Everything just changed so quickly. She went from robbing some man on the street to being carried by him. Staring at the side of his face she wondered if she should cause a scene, but if Kade did that then well he would expose her. He could turn her in for theft, and she would be screwed. Deciding to just play along with this she shot him a somewhat evil glance she wrapped her arms around his neck, and legs onto his waist where the small child wouldn't fall as they stood in line.
When he ordered two drinks she smiled thinking about the last time she actually had something warm to drink. Most of the time it was cold because she had to steal someone else's. As her face turned from his and to the woman she noticed the mystery man holding her young self to his side switch the bills! And steal! What in the world had she gotten herself into. Just storing this back in her young mind she smiled and thanked the woman as she gripped the cup with both of her hands taking a small sip as he began to carry her away.
Kadence really wasn't in the position to scream or get away from him. He was a full grown wizard, he was alot stronger than her so again, she played along. As soon as they where in the park and she was on her feet she fixed her coat and took another sip of the cocoa."Please don't pick me up again." Her voice was strong as a seven year old voice could be.
But then she just stood there listening to him talk. "Well if you didn't carry so much money around I wouldn't have attempted to rob you in the first place. And what do-" Kades words where cut off as soon as she saw him pull his hand out of his pocket with all of her things she had acquired earlier in the day. "Hey!! Thats mine!" she said nearly dropping the half full cocoa in her hand. "Give it back!" she stated..
The things he had just re stolen from her where all she had for this week, which meant it was going to pay for her food. But hey how in the world had he taken it without her knowing. That was impressive in her opinion. She hadn't even noticed it,but then again she was kinda focusing on the man who was holding her, not what he was doing. A small smile came to her face, no matter how mad she was that he had her belongings. "How did you do that?"

Conn had noticed her evil glare as he picked her up. He normally wouldn't have done such a thing, but it was the only thing he could do to put his plan in action. As he had her distracted by what he was doing with the cashier, he had simultaneously slipped his other hand into her jacket pocket. It's what she got for trying to 'touch' him. Every child needed to learn a lesson and this time she had a tough teacher. She wasn't going to get the goods until she could properly swipe them without him catching on..
Now it was dark and no other person seemed to be in the park, or at least anywhere near them. Snow once again began to fall, dusting his blond messy hair like powdered sugar. His eyes never left the girl as he continued to smirk at her antics and demands. He laughed again and leaned back lazily as soon as she was finished, replacing her items in the inside pocket of his jacket for safe keeping. Then in a playful, but exasperated tone he answered, "It's always want, want, want with you kiddies. Never do I get a simple thank you. And no lassie, it's a fair trade. My money for your loot. If you really want it back, you have to learn the right way to do it. Next time I catch ya in my pockets I migh' take an ear.."
Conn was mostly kidding with this threat, but he wanted to make sure she didn't try and nab him twice in one day. There were certain rules among thieves and that was one of them. Never go after the same person twice. He then reached into the satchel he had been holding and brought out a scone, leaving the other inside. Biting into it, he looked at her with almost a mischevious glance, knowing she probably wanted it. In reference to her last remark, the thief merely stated, "I can multitask." He paused as he took another bite and then continued, "So what's your name Angel? Or do I need to make one up for ya?"

life is a masquerade ------------------------------------- Kade had nearly missed everything he said after he pulled out the scone from his bag. Man how she was hungry. She hadn't eaten since last night, her stomach was empty, and the warm liquid right now was only temporally keeping her mind off of the low growl that was coming from the hollow pit in her stomach. Her hand that wasn't on the warm plastic cup clinched her stomach. Man how she wanted one of those. "Can I have one." Shaking the thought of her hunger far from her mind, like she had learned to do nearly seven months ago she nodded trying to recollect what he said.
Something about kids always wanting. Hey isn't that what kids are suppose to do? want everything its only natural, right? Her face went from that smile to a slight angered expression. "I have to get it back?! Thats all I have! You got your money back so why don't you just give me back the watches and such. Its all i have!" She nearly growled starring up at the man. What was she going to do now?
taking a long sip from the hot cocoa he had bought her just a few minutes she tried to think of what to do. Her inner child was starting to come out. She could pout, throw a fit, but what would that do for her? HE was a thief! HE wouldn't see sympathy for a seven year old who was living on her on. He wouldn't and she didn't expect him too. Throwing the empty cup on the cup she went over to the bench pulling herself up on it, sitting on her knees so she was somewhat the same height he was on the bench. "How am I suppose to learn the right way to do it? It isn't like they teach a class to seven year olds on how to pick pocket!" She said angerly. She was ticked off, and she didn't know what to do!
Running her fingerer's threw her hair, a habit she picked up from her mother before she died she caught his last question. What was her name. What right did he have to know her name! He stole all of her things, then again she did try to steal from him. So maybe he was in the right? No... He wouldn't be right in her eyes, but how he did it so smoothly. How she wanted to know how to do that. How to steal so smoothly. She wanted to know, but how? Shaking her head she plopped down on her butt breathing out heavily. 'Kade." she said simply not looking up at the thief little did she know, little did he know, this man would be the key to her survival.

Con could already tell that she was hungry and it didn't take a mind reader to know. At one time he had been in her shoes, left by his parents to fend for himself. At least his dad had trained him, but from what he noticed about her, all her moves were self taught. She was fairly decent, yes, but more clumsy than his father would have allowed. The streets were life and death and you had to be tough.
The main reason he hadn't offered her one was the fact he didn't want to give her everything. If he did she would turn more into a beggar following him around instead of a risk-taker. He couldn't have that, even for a baby lass he barely knew. So instead, with a firm, but impish tone, the thief simply answered "No. Sorry love. I don' aid beggars."
And the she started. Her smile faded into an angry glare and the little thief started to yell at him again. He returned her glare with rolled eyes and a tired expression as he placed the bag on the side of the bench and briefly looked away with irritation. This move he had done on purpose, hoping she wouldn't be so self absorbed not to notice such an easy nab. Though he didn't give her forever and in seconds he looked back to see her on the bench beside him, still going on about her problems. He must have gotten her so worked up she basically yelled to the world she wanted to learn to steal. It was a good thing people rarely listened to 7 year olds or a constable would likely have interrupted. To fix her second major mistake of the day, he gave her a disapproving scowl, answering sternly, "Where did you here that, Angel? There is no way, in Merlin's beard, you will ever learn of such a thing!Understand?" The last bit was so harsh, even to him it seemed real, which made him pause temporarily. After a second he then leaned in and whispered, "I'll be teachin' ya lass how to live."
He leaned back and another grin crossed his face and a brow rose at her introduction, "Kade is it? Much prefer Angel myself. You can call me Conn."

life is a masquerade ------------------------------------- This was crap! Kadence didn't know what to do anymore. She had seriously been living alone, living for herself for a year! She was on the verge of breaking down, but she wouldn't do that. She wouldn't do that in front of people. She would wait until she was alone, like she always did. Not right here when she was in front of whom she was going to start considering as the devil reincarnated! He was so mean for no reason, but wasn' that just how every thief was? Just concerned about themselves... She was starting to believe so, if it was true that meant she had to become that way, right?
Shaking that out of her head she bit her lower lip as she looked up at him. He was calling her a begger! How dare he! He didn't know her! he didn't know what she had been threw! she was still a kid, but was having to live the life of a thief because her own grandparents weren't loving enough to take care of her and she would be damned if she was going to an orphanage! Never in her life. She would rather live this way for the rest of her life than to be stuck into a group home like that.
Shaking her head she starred at him catching the bag out of the corner of her eye, was he testing her? Was he wanting to see if she would go after it? She didn't care, but she was going to take it if he liked it or not. Making sure he was busy talking she silently slipped her hand into the bag taking the piece of food out slipping it into her coat pocket hoping the man didn't see, and if he did that he didn't yell, because right now she couldn't handle the yelling. Not with her stomach growling, and her feet freezing...
Just as soon as she thought he maybe, just maybe would be an OK guy he got all angry. His voice went cruel, and this made her heart stop, her eyes go wide and she was just shocked. She didn't know what to say, but at this moment she was truly scared of what he may do. Kadence sat there silent not knowing what to say. Not knowing what to do, but then he said something that made a mischievous smirk form on her lips. So he was going to help her. Smiling up at him slightly gripping onto the scone firmly, but not to tight she began to talk. "So... Your going to show me how to do what you do?" She asked so naively, hey she was seven it wasn't like she knew everything.
With that same smile on her face she listened to him introduce himself. "OK Conn, I am actually Kadence Ofelia, I don't remember my last name though." She said softly looking down slightly before moving her eyes to his face before locking her small gray eyes on his...

It was moments like these he wished he had the power to read minds, though that being said, it really wasn't all that difficult to see the range of emotions floating across a such a young face. Kids in general, especially the girls, wore emotions on their sleeves. Just by a glance he could easily see his reaction was driving her crazy, which only spurred him on more. Even though well in his twenties, the rogue of a man had always possession a playful heart, where a good prank was worth a thousand laughs in his mind. Right now this poor girl was giving him several to work with.
He was inwardly pleased when he saw her finally go for the bag and slightly impressed with her speed an accuracy. He had barely felt a thing. A normal clueless tourist or pedestrian would not have noticed at all. Well t least he felt better that she had something to eat. Conn would never admit this, but as bad as he made himself to be, deep down he was a caring guy. On a good day, he never forgets to help someone less fortunate than himself and this time it was her. His family had always said this would be his downfall in the business..the possibility he would care too much and forget the number 1 person. Himself.
Though for the past 11 years, the thief was fairly certain they had been wrong..until the lass looked at him with her grey eyes. Seeing that face caused his own to become serious for a good long moment as he tried to resist whatever spell she was trying on him. Out of everything, she had to use the cute spell..Kids! They were true evil to be sure.
Finally coming to a decision, he sat up again, his face now only inches from her as he whispered, "Yeah..I will show ya, but only under certain conditions. Cross me and I can guarantee you'll find yerself in a deeper hole than ya are now. Are we clear?" Unlike his usual self, no humor aside from perhaps a sadistic kind, emanated from his presence. Thieving was one thing he took completely seriously, "First. I am the king. Whatever i say goes. Second. No whining or pitiful looks..like this one..They don't work on me. I'm only here for my own profit. And Third. Knockturn is completely off limits. Don't even look in that direction. Got it? Simple I think..If I come up with more I'll let ya know.."
After that he relaxed a bit and moved out of her way and almost like a casual afterthought he asked, "Well, are ya goin' ta eat that lass, before it goes stale? I'm tired o' hearin that stomach o' yers.."

life is a masquerade ------------------------------------- Kadence really didn’t know how lucky she probably got actually getting caught by this man today. Yes she got caught, yes she lost all of her profits from the day, but he had agreed to actually teach her. Under some conditions though, conditions that this seven year old didn’t quiet understand all of. See she wasn’t the smartest person, mainly because for the past year she had been teaching herself, and two she was only seven. Yes she understood, no Knockturn alley, and apparently no pitiful looks, even though she didn’t know she was doing a pitiful look, and thirdly he was apparently king.
Kade didn’t really believe that king part to its fullest. She doubted she was sitting in front of the king of the thieves. So naturally being her seven year old naïve self she pushed it aside just nodding as he talked. “But I have a question Conn.” She said with a smile as she put her hand over her growling stomach. “WHatcha mean when you say cross?” she asks so curiously. She truly didn’t know, and the only way she had to find out was by asking.
Kadence well, how would you explain her. She had always been a curious person, every since she was little. Her parents had to put a magically shield around her play pen so she wouldn’t wonder off. She had also always been very observant about people, very sneaky, and very conniving. Her father, from what little memories she had of him had always teased her and said she should be a thief when she got older. Little did he know that his baby girl at the time would actually become the one thing she had always been teased over?
Sitting there thinking about her dad almost made her cry. Her whole facial expression changed as she just thought about her family, and what her life would possibly be like if they where still around. If their house hadn’t burnt down that night, if all that didn’t happen. Little did she know, she was the one who started the fire, it was a good thing she was unaware with this. Kade couldn’t live with herself if she did know that her parent’s death was her fault. With the feeling starting to pour into her mind, she had begun just starring at the ground. Completely zoned out until his voice filled her ears again.
When he spoke she shook her head snapping back into reality starring up at him, Giggling slightly, not because of what he said, but how he said it. “You have a funny accent thingy.” She said with a giggle as she stared up at him. Hey she was a kid she still got fascinated by little things. Just how he said lass, instead of kid made her giggle. It was different than what she was using too. How he said you, all those little things fascinated her. Being her curious self she had to ask about it as she pulled out the scone taking a bite. “Why do you talk funny?” she asked chewing the food as she looked up at him. “I have never heard anyone who talked like you do.” She was constantly eating the scone, very quickly actually finishing it. “I mean it’s not weird…Just I don’t know how to explain it.” She stated licking her fingers before rubbing them on her jeans and looking up at him.
