Rose walked down the hall, looking left and right. She didn't know what to do at this point. Her plan was: go to the ministry, and find someone who is like a private investigator type person. Was the ministry a correct place to look for such a person? Well, it was her best shot. Rose needed to know if the letter she got in the mail was true. Had her sister really died? The letter she received wasn't signed, just expressed condolences, and explained that her death was a tragic accident. Tragic accident? Did this person call running away from the death eaters and being killed for it a 'tragic accident'? Rose had to believe that that was true, and that was how she died. Running away from the death eaters. She could never think of her sister as one of those....monsters. Monsters who found joy in killing and torturing innocent people. No, her sister had not been one of those people. But she had to know for sure, whether this letter had been a joke or not. What if this was just a decoy, to push Rose over the edge so she would come out of hiding and retaliate? That would mean her sister was alive. And while Rose was finishing her education, she needed someone to help her find that out. So her first thought was look at the ministry. Well, she was at the ministry, and had absolutely no idea what her next step should be. What level should she go to? Is there a specfic person she should find? Was there no type of department like that in the ministry? So many unanswered questions, and no where to turn. But Rose was determined to find out somehow. Was Bella gone? Was Rose the last survivor of their family? Those two questions weighed on her shoulders the most. If her sister was gone, she was the last heir to the family. Of course, she would only want to carry on her mothers lineage, not her fathers. Although she did attend his funeral, Rose wanted nothing to do with him for the most part. Which was why she took her mother's maiden name. Instead of 'Swan', she was 'Knight', which she did like better. 'Knight' seemed to fit her better; brave, strong, loyal, true. Where 'Swan' was more graceful, beautiful, magestic, and deceiptful. Yes, 'Knight' was much more fitting, and young Rose took pride in that. talk think other people talking

Risse Skolnick walked carefully down the halls of the Ministry of Magic. The Hispanic theif wasn't exactly sure what she was doing here in the belly of the beast, maybe she was trying to conquer her fear of authority figures and those in power. Who knew? It didn't really matter. What mattered was that, although the Ministry was under a new regime, their security was basically the same, easy enough to break if you knew the correct points to hit. Now all Risse had to do was stay out of sight from the officials and she could easily get out of this place without the security wizards being any the wiser.
Risse peeked her head around the corner and almost catlike slid around the wall. It was almost pathetic, she reflected, how easy it was to get inside what was supposed to be one of the most secure places of the Wizarding World. Just goes to show, she thought, everyone has their weak spots.
She sighed. This new regime was getting boring for the conartist/theif/fence. The "authorities" were more interested in using her particular skill sets to find things or sell their own black market items. Her line of work had become practically legal, which took out all of the fun. Gone were the days of adrenaline rushes and the thrill of the chase.
The only thing that had been thrilling in the past few minutes was this particular adventure: sneaking into the Ministry of Magic. Oh what joy. And the worst part of it all was that if someone did happen to catch her she could just claim to be a consultant for one of the Department Heads, they used her often enough. Risse stopped halfway down the corridor and flipped her long, curly blonde hair up into a high ponytail. Dressed in tight, black jeans, a dark top, her leather jacket and a pair of black leather high-heeled boots, Risse looked like some sort of theif from a TV show or something, which was the look she had been going for. In her line of work, the sexier, more confidant and compitent you looked the more likely you were goijng to get jobs, Risse had learned that lesson at her mothers feet.
But Risse's life wasn't all glamour, high fashion and shiny jewels. Nope, far from it. Technically, Risse didn't exist. She had burned her Hogwarts papers proving she had attended the prestigious wizarding academy. Her mother was dead and with her had died the knowledge of where Risse's birth certificate was. Her father was in Azkaban, a fact she would never mourn. Still, sometimes it got lonely. With no friends and no family Risse didn't exactly belong anywhere, though she moved through the Classes with ease.
Risse continued on her walk, rounding another corner just as cautiously as the first. Again she was half-way down the corrider when she froze, though this time it was because someone else had decided they would walk around this particular expanse of hallway. A pretty blonde, blue-eyed girl who couldn't be older than seventeen was walking toward her. Every instince screamed at Risse to run, but she forced herself to remain calm. When the strange girl reached her Risse said, "Are you lost?" The minute she spoke Risse wished she hadn't opened her big fat mouth. Now she was really in for it. Wasn't the whole objective of this mission to get in and get out without being seen? Well, that just went down the tube.

Rose hadn't even been looking up as she was walking at this point, and almost bumped into someone. This someone was a young blonde girl who was not dressed to be a ministry official. She was wearing dark everything. Rose felt a little voice in her head nudging at her saying how this person seemed like the type who did not want to be seen. But if she didn't want to be seen why would she ask Rose if she were lost? Rose had to think about her answer though. She didn't think she could trust this person, but, if this person could lead her to where she needed to go, it was worth it. Well... would she take the risk? Yes. She decided. What was the worst that could happen? This person could attack. And Rose knew how to defend herself. The best that could happen would be this person could actually help her. Rose turned the paranoia and skepticism down a bit, and calmly said: "Yes. Do you know where I could find a sort of wizard who specializes in private investigations?" Rose hoped her trip today wouldn't have all been for nothing. Maybe she made a dumb mistake coming to the Ministry. It had been infiltrated by Death Eaters; who the hell would she be able to find who could help her?! She might've been better off hanging around Diagon or Knockturn Alley. Not that either were much better than the ministry at the moment. But she had nothing left to lose but her own life, which was a gamble, but she was willing to take it. Besides, what's life without a little risk? She tried to keep this thought running through her head whenever she did stupid, reckless things like this that could get her killed. She seemed to do things like that often... And maybe what she should be concentrating on now is going and saving her best friend from being a slave to some pureblood who will hurt her? Rose pushed that out of her mind. One thing at a time. As soon as she found out what she needed to here, she would be on her way to Maddy. So could this young lady be of any assistance to her? talk think other people talking

Risse looked the young girl up and down, she was definitely a looker, blonde and blue-eyed. She was also much too young to be wandering around the halls of the Death Eater-infested Ministry of Magic. Risse always wanted to help everyone, a trait others in her business considered a weakness. She had kept her desire to be helpful locked inside her, caged so that her…associates, wouldn’t try and take advantage of it. Now though, looking down at this teenager, she felt her mothering instincts trying to resurface. The poor girl was obviously lost. Worry lines creased her face, usually not found on someone so young, and Risse wondered what could have put them there.
When Risse asked the girl if she were lost the twenty-one-year-old thief really hadn’t expected a reply except for maybe a quick no so it surprised her when she answered, saying she was looking for a wizard specializing in private investigations. That peaked Risse’s interest.
Risse shifted her weight so it rested mostly on her right foot with her left knee bent and her right hand on her hip. What could this girl want a private investigator for? What did she want to find? Her parents? Maybe, but not likely. An ex-boyfriend? Again not likely. Whatever it was Risse highly doubted the private investigators here in the Ministry of Magic would take a mere teen seriously. Risse knew a couple of them and they would probably just laugh in the girl’s face and turn her away. Poor thing, Risse thought, she’ll be so disappointed.
An idea suddenly struck. Risse hadn’t been hired to do anything recently and she was starting to get bored, really bored, hence this sojourn into the Ministry just to see if she could sneak in. She had all the time in the world plus Risse could almost guarantee she would be a lot easier to deal with than the puffed up toe-rags that worked in the Ministry’s investigation department if she could convince the girl to hire her. “I do know where the private investigators are,” she said slowly, “but are you sure you want to hire one of them? They’re all pricks.”
Risse let her words sink in for a minute before she continued, “I’m pretty sure I could find whatever you’re looking for though, for a small fee of course. I mean, I wouldn’t use the most legal of methods, but I’m a lot better at getting things than any of those goons.”

Rose sighed and looked down. Yes, coming to the ministry had not been her best idea, but it was all she had. But maybe if she would have though a little more, she would be in Diagon Alley right now. But at this point it didn't matter. The girl said something about how all the private investigators were pricks. Rose wouldn't doubt that. But it was difficult, on one hand they could be Death Eaters who will do nothing but kill her on the spot for what she was looking for, and if they were not Death Eaters, they probably wouldn't do anything for her anyway. But what other choice did she really have? This girl before her could very well be a death eater, even though it seemed unlikely. Then Rose heard the girl say she could do it, and for a small fee. Rose had to mull this over a bit. She didn't know if she could trust this girl at all, didn't know if she would actually help. Was she one of them where as soon as Rose confessed what she was looking for she would be dead so fast she wouldn't have time to blink. So she debated what she should do... Well, it wasn't like Rose had anything to lose. Entrusting this girl could have terrible results, it could have rewarding results. Like she had thought before, she didn’t have much to lose… And the way she acted seemed casual, like she meant what she was saying, not just making it up as she went along. She honestly confessed that she wouldn’t use all legal methods. Well, she should at least give it a shot. ”You think you could find someone for me? Can I trust you to do it without letting Death Eaters know that I’m looking for this person?” Then Rose thought about it. Death Eaters had the dark mark branded into the arms. So Rose looked at her and said outright: ”Show me your arms.” If the girl had the Dark Mark, Rose would apparate out immediately. If not, well then she was hired! She was truly hoping there would be no mark, she really needed to know if her sister was really dead or not. If not, she was bringing her sister home, once and for all. Whether she liked it or not. But if she was dead, Rose would have to have a funeral… A funeral she didn’t know if she would make it through. That would be the third person of her immediate family she had buried, and she wasn’t sure she could handle that. Especially not her sister. She couldn’t have cared less when she buried her father, but her mother and sister, was another story. Rose just had to know. She couldn’t take wondering anymore. And even more, who had sent her the letter expressing condolences? Had it been someone who was there when she died? If so, she wanted to meet this person. She wanted to know what Bella’s last moments had been like. Had she died in vain? She didn’t want to think about it. Her sister could still be alive. She just needed to find out for sure. talk think other people talking

Risse waited while the girl mulled her offer over. She could almost see the teen’s thoughts in her expressive blue eyes. She really should learn to control her emotions better, Risse thought idly as she waited silently, they could get her killed if she isn’t careful.
It seemed to take her prospective employer a very long time to decide whether or not to hire her. In that time Risse cast a casual glance over the girl’s shoulder and her own, checking to make sure no one was trying to sneak up on them. They were all alone in this stretch of hallway. Finally the girl came to her decision and asked if Risse could find someone for her, without alerting the Death Eaters. Risse smiled. Getting stuff past Death Eaters was her specialty. “Easy peasy lemon squeezy,” she reassured the girl.
What the girl said next caught Risse by surprise. The girl was smart, thinking to ask to see her arms to make sure the Dark Mark wasn’t branded into her skin in all its writhing black glory. Risse found herself liking this girl more and more as she slipped off her black leather jacket and rolled back the long sleeves of her plain black shirt. “Smart girl,” Risse commented as she held both her arms out for inspection, “but as you can see, I do not have any tattoos of a skull puking up a snake. I find that such images have a tendancy to scare away any and all possible male friends. Something about the dark lines, I think.”

Rose chuckled at the last comment. A tattoo like the Dark Mark probably would scare off male companions, unless they bore the same brand. Quickly looking over the girl's arms, she saw she was not lying. It was so strange. A minute ago she had been thinking that this was too easy, but now... Now it seemed to actually be real in front of her, what she wanted could truly happen. All she needed was to talk to the right person, and it looked like this was the one. "Alright then. I need to find a girl. She was taken by Death Eaters between seven and eight months ago, and I recently received a letter saying she was... Dead. I need to find out whether or not this is true, if she is dead or not. If not, I want to know where she is. You can do that?" She had to make this person aware of the situation and making sure that this was not too much for her. But she, like Rose herself, also had snuck into the Ministry undetected, and as it seemed, unaided. So maybe she had a reason to be as cocky as she seemed. It didn't matter though, just as long as the job got done and no one found out. She couldn't put hers or Bella's life at risk with this, if Bella was still alive. If she was and Death Eaters found out Rose was still looking, they might just kill her for that. Or come back after Rose again. And if they succeeded in killing her and Bella was alive, where would that leave her? "I'm Rose by the way." She said and stuck out her hand. She figured it would be better to be on a first name basis, at least she would know what to call this girl in her head and out loud, other than 'this girl'. talk think other people talking

Risse smiled at the teen as the blonde inspected her arms. The only blemishes there were light, jagged scars that were long healed, testimonies to her late father’s sadistic nature. She waited patiently for the girl to complete her thorough examination. When she was done Risse pushed her sleeves back down and put her black leather jacket back on.
As she settled her clothes back into place she listened to the girl’s explanation. It seemed the teen wanted Risse to find a girl who was taken by Death Eater some time ago, specifically confirming whether or not the girl was dead. Risse didn’t put much faith into the idea of the girl being alive, especially if she was taken by Death Eaters, but, looking at her new client’s hopeful blue eyes, Risse knew the least she could do was help the girl find answers. Risse knew what it was like to not know what happened to a loved one. Her own mother had gone missing when she was very young and it was only after she had escaped her father that she was able to find out what had happened.
“Sure,” Risse said in response to the teen’s seeking of reassurance. “It’ll take me some time and I’ll need a name but other than that it shouldn’t be too hard. I’m Risse,” she told Rose, accepting her hand to shake. “How about we get out of here and go get something to drink and you can tell me more about this girl?”

Risse. That was a pretty name. Probably short for something... Rose thought to herself. But what is was short for mattered not, the fact that this girl was willing to help get Rose the answers she had been craving for what felt like so long was just amazing. Rose actually felt a flicker of hope inside telling her maybe she'll finally get some closure on her beloved sister. It just hurt to know that she had gone through so much trouble to find her sister in the first place, just to have her snatched away not too long later. Rose was finally starting to get a sense of family, a sense she had never been lucky enough to have. If Risse found out what happened to Bella, she would probably end up with a name of some sorts. The person whom the name belonged to would be very sorry that they screwed with Rose's family. If there was anything the young Gryffindor had ever wanted in her life, it was a family. She had ruined that with her mother, but attempted to make right of it with Bella. And then the Death Eaters take away her last chance? No. They would not get away with that. Just as Rose had this thought though, two faces popped into her mind. Maddy and John. She had a best friend who was like a sister to her, and a man in her life that she knew she might actually... Truly love. And if he felt the same towards her... Then she could have her family. Her and John would have their own family, with Aunt Maddy. How lovely that seemed. But what about an Aunt Bella, if she was alive? Rose needed to do this first before she considered having a family. She needed the closure of her sister and then to ensure that the Death Eaters would not come after her again, because if they did and they went to go after her family again, not one of them would make it away alive. So Risse was her last hope for this. "Yes, I'd like that. Let's go." Rose said, and with saying this she felt some sense of finality. A small bit of it. Like something was about to come to an ending. And it was a good feeling. Hopefully, it would last. talk think other people talking
