Grand Opening. After spending several weeks cleaning eleven years worth of dust, cobwebs, and grime, and a few months of remodeling and arrangements, Reece was finally ready to open her shop/bar. FALL INTO SHADES only vaguely resembled the original store, formerly owned by Reece's mother. The front window held the day's featured products along with a large sign indicating to passerby whether the store was open.
Along the walls were cases and shelves, filled with various supplies and products - everything from bins to papers, paints, charcoals, quills, oils, cutting tools, clays, and canvas. Along the back wall would be found the counter and as well as the well-stocked bar, while in various alcoves around the building curtained booths could be found. Hanging on the walls was a variety of sketches and paintings for sale, some of them done by students from Hogwarts, with the price up to the artist's discretion.
Reece let her gaze travel over the expanse of the store, skipping over the set of stairs behind the counter, leading up to her apartment. With a quick nod to herself, the blonde pulled her wand out of her pocket and muttered a spell under her breath. The "OPEN" sign lit up and the front door opened itself. Though it was a cool November day, the buildings heat would remain. With a sigh, she walked back behind the counter, grabbed herself a drink, and sat at the stool, flipping through the notes she had taken during her recent "investigation" into her brother’s disappearance.
No matter what she did, or where she looked, she still had yet to find out any more information, nor could she reconcile the fact that her brother had simply disappeared without a trace. She was frustrated and desperate - near desperate enough to use any means necessary and near frustrated enough to just give up. Reece continued to sit there staring frustratedly at her notes, and waiting to see who her first visitor or customer would be for an hour before huffing, and nearly slamming her head down on the counter in her frustration.

Edward was laying down on his maroon velvet couch. He was just laying there, staring up at the ceiling. It seemed as if he was in some sort of stupor. In fact, Edward was just thinking. He was on case. Recently he had been flooded with cases. No one seemed to want to go to the real officals these days. All that had to do with these Death Eaters taking over. Mostly, he was offered cases of missing people. Unfortunately, he had traced all those he could to the Ministry or some place where the missing person was imprisioned. Sad business but, business was business. Frankly, missing persons was getting a bit dull. It was turning all too easy for Edward to figure out.
This case in particular was a tad different. It required a bit more work than the others. Edward sat up rather suddenly as a thought hit him. He jumped up from the couch and had to wait a few moments as blood rushed back to his head. Edward shook his head, ran to the coat rack in the room, draped a blue scarf around his neck, threw on his long black coat and hurred out the door, yelling at the land lady to not wait up for him. Nice lady she was. She took care of him, made him his meals and all that. Of course, it didn't start out that way.
By way of apparition, Edward traveled from London to Hogesmeade. He wandered through several stores and such, searching for something certain. Sadly, he did not find what he had been hoping to find. A bit dejected, Edward walked into a bar and simply sat down with a slight frown. Ed turned his head and saw the only other person around at this time, a young woman. She was fustrated over what was written on the pages she was looking at. Hm, curiousity instantly bit him. What was written on those pages? Financial documents perhaps? Wait, wait, wait, - original purpose. "Miss, have you seen anything strange around here lately? Anything out of the ordinary?"" he asked, not even bothering to introduce himself.

In her frustration Reece had not even noticed the man come in and sit down, not even realizing when he spoke. Without picking up her head from the counter the young blonde snapped, "Are you joking? I'm surrounded by young witches and wizards at the beginning of the Dark Lady's reign while it's not hard to figure out how she came to power, meanwhile there have been two disappearances in my life and no such explanation! Is that strange or out of the ordinary?! She paused as her breath caught and slowly she lifted her head, her emerald eyes wide. Her first customer! Her first customer and she hadn't even noticed...had simply snapped at him!
With a small, apologetic smile she stood and walked over to him, halting a few steps away from where he sat. "My apologies, sir. You would be my first customer." Running her fingers through her hair, she cast a glance around the store with a somber resolve. Her eyes flashed back to the man and her eyes narrowed slightly as she looked him over. He was attractive, and vaguely familiar. She was fairly certain she'd bumped into him a time or two, but couldn't recall where or why. "Welcome to Fall Into Shades. Can I get you something to drink?"

Edward looked at the girl with a bit of confusion. Had he spoke in a joking manner? No. He was pretty sure he was being completely serious. The girl's frustration rang out in her voice. Clearly, he had said the wrong thing to the wrong person. Based on her reaction to his questions, Edward was intrigued. He had yet again come across a disappearance. Two to be exactly. He leaned forward, resting his chin in his hand and did his quick minute inspections of the girl. He knew her, Edward smiled slightly to himself. He never forgot a face.
He waited to speak and just observed, in the non-stalker way. "Your reaction was perfectly normal for a person in your situation," he said as politely as possible. Edward paused to check the time on his pocket watch. "Yes mademoiselle, I'll have a coffee, if you have it," he added. Although he would like to fall into the pleasure of having an alcoholic drink, he could not at this time of day. Plus, he was out on business. He found it quite amusing while working on one case, he had stumbled upon another. Edward was quite enthused about it actually. He was glad he could be of some use again, even if the results were a tad grim.
"Fall Into Shades....interesting," Edward commented, glancing around. "Shades, referring the method of shading in various art medias, and then Fall ...what people do when they are as drunk as a skunk. It fits." Whether this was the purpose of the name of the shop or not, it was how Edward perceived it to be. He felt it was more than likely she had not thought of it in this way but, it was his immediate thoughts.
"Reece Deity, Magical Law Enforcement Office and owner of this wonder shop. Those disappearances you mentioned, family members?" He held up his hand making a stop motion to prevent her from answering. "Don't answer that. Father? Brother? It's one of those eh? Depending on what circumstances surrounding his disappearance, it may not be strange or out of the ordinary at all. Perhaps it wasn't a disappearance as you call it. He could have left completely on his own accord. I've seen it hundreds of times," Edward said, all rather quickly. He had remembered seeing Reece at the Ministry a time or two, when he used to lurk there. Now, he avoided the place as much as possible. He still have yet to figure out how to make himself a mock dark art to match his brooding, death eater disguise.

Reece waited patiently as the man spoke and checked his pocket watch. Was her reaction perfectly normal? Given the circumstances... perhaps, but not likely. It certainly had not been the way she would've liked to greet a customer, nor was it the greatest way to make a good first impression - leastwise, not in her opinion. She arched an eyebrow then glanced back at the bar, saying drily, "Coffee, eh? Sure thing... How would you like it, sir? Black? Cream? Sugar?" She turned and slowly walked over to the bar to get started, waiting for his answer.
She listened attentively as he mused about the meaning behind the name "Fall into Shades". Normally she would've let herself be lost in her own thoughts, but she was intrigued by this stranger. Reece let a small, genuine laugh pass her lips at his ponderings. Her thoughts wandered as she, too, began to ponder this, and then a frown crossed her face, for barely a second, before being replaced by another sweet, yet somewhat apologetic smile. Shaking her head, she wondered what her mother would think of this man's musing? What had been the meaning behind the name? "To be honest, sir, this was my mother's shop after she graduated. I just reopened it." The young woman shrugged easily as she brushed her blonde lockes off her shoulders and leaned against the counter. "I've never actually inquired of her the meaning behind it, but I expect yours is much more amusing than the reality." A wistful sigh escaped her as she gazed around the store, her mothers "legacy", her emerald eyes taking in every detail. "I suspect the truth is far more depressing than that, though," she whispered.
Her reflections on her family and her past, as well as all her thoughts, were interrupted, and she ever so slowly turned her head to look at the man speaking, her emerald eyes wide and shining. How did he know her name, her other occupation? True, the Deity's were fairly well known in the wizarding world, but there were others more widely known. As for her occupation, she did vaguely remember seeing him once or twice before, sparking in her memory a little bit of his identity, so Reece supposed it was possible that this had occurred at the Ministry. She frowned as he held up his hand to stop her from answering his questions. How could he guess the disappearances she had spoken of previously were her father and brother? Well, she supposed that was easily answered: there had been articles, and minor investigations at first, but nothing on either in many years. She squinted at him, eyeing him with a deep suspicion which quickly grew into anger.
"You would be that ace private detective, correct? I'll not deny that I am Reece Deity, and that you are correct in what you said of me. And yes, the aforementioned disappearances were my father and my brother. However," She paused, her emerald eyes a dark, dangerous green, "While I concede the leaving may have been willing, I am quite adamant in my belief that the actual disappearances were not, in fact, willing."
Reece closed her eyes, slowly, taking a deep breath to calm her rage. She crossed her arms across her chest, and continued to glare at the detective. She was unused to anyone else knowing more about her than she did of them. It was a bit unnerving, and frankly, made it hard for her to leash her temper. She studied the man, pondering over his words, before continuing, in an almost defeated-sounding tone, "Why do you sound so intrigued by this information anyway?"

Edward's lips curled into a smile ever so slightly. As she turned to get him that coffee. "I have my own cup dear. If you don't mind pouring it in there, just black," he said, producing a single, white, round cup from his inside coat pocket. Concerned about his well being? Why of course he was. The times they were living in, Edward just preferred to be a tad cautious. He took another look around the shop, mustering up other theories about just how the shop might have came to get it's name. "You never inquired her about it? Never...thought to change it?" he asked. "Oh...yes, the truth is always far more depressing than we want it to be," he added, catching her whisper. Excellent hearing he had, not to mention he could read lips.
Ah, there it was. The wide eyed look of surprise. How does know who I am? Blah, blah, blah. How could he know about the disappearances? Blah, blah, blah. This part was very clearly not know to Edward. In fact, it used to flatter but, now...well, it makes him quite bored. Edward wondered if she thought of those, tiny articles in the paper that mentioned the disappearances. They were tiny, only a paragraph. One would over look it if one were not looking out for that sort of thing in the papers. Edward always looked for that sort of thing. Time and time again, as he saw it, the surprised turned to anger. This immediately led him to beleive such disappearances were not, in fact, voluntary.
"No need to get mad at me darling, just trying to get my facts straight," Edward flashed her a quick smile. "Please really, stop glaring at me. You'll get wrinkles," he said, after a few moments of uncomfortable silence. "Why shouldn't I be interested? From your reaction I can tell your father and brother were clearly not the kind to just run off, but, if it was for you own protection - I can safely say they would indeed leave. The only question that remains is why and who, and where they went." Edward was excessively confident that her family members were indeed alive. "I could look into a few things, if you'd like. No charge. Consider it a...consultation."
