A girl, roughly nineteen slipped through the crowded streets of Hogsmeade Village. It was a lovely day, especially for an English winter. The snow was thick on the ground but none was falling from the sky, a respite for the sun-loving girl as she trekked through Hogsmeade. Finally reaching her destination the brunette known to the world as Cory Aaron, Chaser for the Windborne Wasps smiled and entered the store
Inside McLaggen’s Quidditch Accessories took a deep breath of air. The air smelled of wood, varnish and leather, all of the wonderful smells that Cory associated with her favorite sport. It was warm in the shop, warm enough that Cory unbuttoned her coat to let it hang open as she looked around. Brooms hung from the walls at varying heights and some older models were even suspended from the ceiling for show. Near where she stood was the check-out counter along with displays of broom maintenance kits and Quidditch robes were modeling themselves in the shop windows.
Cory barely spared these things a glance as she made a beeline for the center showcase of the shop where displayed in a glass case was the broom of her dreams: a Firebolt 5000. It cost over 1000 galleons and was way beyond her price range but oh, how she wanted it! Perfectly streamline with a handcrafted mahogany handle varnished a deep red and birch twigs selected for their ability to perfectly shape into a smooth tail the Firebolt 5000 was the product of modern ingenuity.
Cory sighed longingly and gazed at the marvel of craftsmanship. It would cost her more than she made in a year to afford to buy that broom. As it was, she had a perfectly respectable First Generation Firebolt waiting for her at home.
“So you’re back again, Ms. Aaron?” a voice said behind her.
Cory glanced back and saw a heavy, older woman smiling at her. Cory blushed and nodded sheepishly to the store clerk. The woman laughed and shook her head. “Well,” she said, “when you’re done looking at that broom we’ve got some new broomstick handle polish in if you’re interested.
Cory nodded her thanks then turned her attention back to the Firebolt. It was just so beautiful, she thought as it hovered in the glass case at the perfect height for mounting.
