You came and saved me tonight Defending all my lifeNow I'm content with my breathe Cuz I'm alive. Laci grabbed her book from the drawer in her nightstand and tucked it under her arm, pressing it close to her side as she walked out of the girl’s dormitory. The Hufflepuff commons oozed a copper colored light, sun kissed, even though the circular windows showed dark, angry skies and plenty of rain. Lightning flashed, illuminating the window, painting it white momentarily like a blank canvas. The girl couldn’t hear the crack of the thunder from inside the castle. She loved thunderstorms, though the lightning and thunder scared the crap out of her. The rain, she thought, was calming, so she made her way past the yellow and black overstuffed couches and crawled through the small door. The girl popped into the corridor next to the kitchens and brushed the invisible dirt off the bottom of her robe. Flawless, one would think, but they thought too soon. Laci took a few steps toward the staircase before she kicked her own ankle and toppled to the ground. The navy blue book with the gold lettering skidded across the marble floor. The blonde nudged her glasses back up her nose and scrambled to her feet to retrieve the book. She looked around the large corridor to see if anyone had been watching. To her surprise, the grand hallway was vacant; the air was still and noiseless around her. Laci scurried off up the spiral staircase, clutching her book to her chest.
The girl desired to finish her reading in a place where she could be soothed by the purring and aroma of raindrops. The corridors were silent; the students were all probably preparing to retire for the night. It wasn’t past curfew because the young Hufflepuff couldn’t bare to break the rules. The light sound of her feet pattering on the marble echoed gently down the hallway, bouncing between the stone walls. Up another few sets of stairs, the girl made her way up quietly, the subtle chatter of the paintings seemed to follow her to the top. At the top of the steps she stopped at a rather large, wooden door. Laci’s knuckles rapped on the hollow sounding wood and waited for a reply. No sounds, perfect. She pulled one of the doors open enough for her to slide through. A smile tugged at the corners of her mouth; she was delighted that she hadn’t walked in on two students snogging again. She had learned from the last time to knock first.
The blonde took a seat on the floor on the far side of the small circular room and cracked her book open to the page she had ended off on. The pages crackled as she turned them, her large, blue eyes floated across, taking in everything. She let the words soak in to her memory, a smile curled on her soft, pink lips as she read on. There wasn’t much left in the book, seeing as she read through her whole lunch period in the library. At this time, the library was closed for the evening, but the North Tower seemed to draw her in as the perfect reading spot. What seemed to be decades later, only turned out to be an hour. Laci shut her book and sat there for a few moment, taking in the final moments of the story. It was lovely how the stories she read all had happy endings. She often wished life was like that, like a fairytale. The blonde stood up and walked over to the window, climbing up to stand on the sill. The rain sprayed her face as she looked out into the dark storm clouds. Her mind was still floating as she visualized herself looking out over a sunny, green field sprinkled with patches of flowers. That was where her prince would be, a knight, on a beautiful white steed telling her to jump and that he would be there to catch her.
The crack of a whip struck the girl back into reality. Laci yelped and twitched as the next flash of lightning touched down, lighting up her eyes. Her maryjane clad feet lost their grip on the wet stone windowsill causing the girl to slip. Her life flashed before her eyes as she fell. One would say that the ghost of Helga Hufflepuff had spared her life, or that is what Laci wanted to think. The blonde’s gold and black robe had caught onto something, leaving her dangling. It gave a new meaning to the phrase ‘hanging on by a thread.’ The threads in her robe were the difference between life and plummeting hundreds of feet to her death. Laci looked down at the grass below her. It was so far away, so far to fall. She cried out in fear that she would fall.

Unimportant.... although she was doing well in school thus far, Vera felt very unimportant. It seemed that everything she did socially she was just doing it wrong and she couldn't make anyone happy. She sighed in frustration as her heart was beginning to feel a bit heavy and she shoved her books off the table and threw her head, on her crossed arms, onto the desktop. She took some deep breaths as she could feel that her breaths were short and far between. She had to calm herself down and work on her breathing. Since it was kind of important. She looked at the clock, she still had another two hours til the prefects would start sending people back to their dormitories. Scooting the chair across the floor, she flicked her wand at the pile of books and stacked it up on the edge of the desk. She knew that she would never hear the end of it from her roommate.
She could hear the rain on the windowpane and grabbed a hooded sweater before she headed out.
Walking down the corridors, her boots scuffed lightly as she made her way around the corner. She made it to the hall with the portraits and stopped to look at a couple of the photos. The people smiled and waved at her and she waved back politely asking how they were and they bantered for a while before she decided to head on her way.
She reached a staircase and looked at the bottom step in front of her shoes. Perhaps she would explore? But when she heard a scream of sheer terror, her head popped up her eyes widened and her heart raced as she rushed up the stairs. She opened the door and looked around the room but couldn't find anyone. She noticed the window was open and she just hoped she was not too late. She rushed to the sill and looked down. And there, hanging by her robes, a blond girl, about her age, was hanging buy her robes. Vera reached down to her and held out her hand, holding onto the frame of the window. "Give me your hand!"

You came and saved me tonight Defending all my lifeNow I'm content with my breathe Cuz I'm alive. Laci Ackerley stood in the frame of the window, her blonde curls flapped around in the moist wind. Rain crashed to the ground in sheets around the circular tower. In her mind, she saw a sunny day, a field of tall flowers beneath her. The sun was high in the sky, it’s rays beamed down on her, kissing her cheeks with warmth. A knight in shining, silver armor sat gallantly on his pearly white steed with his sword hanging off his hip on his right. The light of the sun ricocheted off of the sword and into the girl’s eyes.
The blinding light was followed by a clap of thunder, potentially scaring Laci half to death. She shrieked and leaned back, her arms flailing in all directions as if she could fly. Her black leather mary janes slipped on the wet stone window sill. The blonde girl cut her elbow on the rock as she fell to what she thought would be her demise. Somewhere she had done a good deed because karma repaid her, Laci’s Hufflepuff robe caught onto the inside of the tower. She tried no to move too much in fear that the threads holding her up would soon give way to her weight though she was quite light for her age. Her blue eyes wandered, trying to see through the thick sheets of rain, and then to the ground. She panicked, her feet dangling way above the grass.
A voice called out and a hand shot down barely within her reach. Laci couldn’t hear what was being yelled to her due to her heart pounding so hard that she could feel it in her head where her thoughts scrambled around and crashed into each other. The blonde glanced up to see a girl hanging out of the window, her hand reaching down to help. Laci reached up, her hand fumbling around clumsily trying to grasp on to the girl. As soon as her slippery, rain soaked hand finally caught a hold of something, the girl’s yellow and black robes gave loose. A shriek escaped Laci’s soft, pink lips, her big blue eyes looked up at her almost savior.

Vera could see that the blond girl knew she was there, but weather or not she had heard her was unrecognizable. She saw her look up and reach for her hand. She felt their fingers slip and she reached out with both of her hands, grabbing her by the wrist as the girl let out a scream as her robe, that was the only thing holding her up, let loose; her bright blue eyes shot a hoping stare up at Vera. She gasped lightly and planted her feet firmly against the bottom of the wall by the window and pulled up with all her might. It wasn't that they girl was heavy by any means, she was just not expecting to have to let go of the wall so suddenly. Her muscles were screaming at her for the sudden change from bracing her body to pulling another body up over the window.
She pulled her up and over the wet sill and fell back onto the cold, hard floor. She braced her neck so that her head would not hit the hard stone floor below their feet and wondered if the girl was about to topple right on top of her. It only hurt a little as she just took a moment to let herself settle. She let out a sigh of relief knowing that, at least, the girl was safe and not hanging by a thread, no pun intended. She took a few deep breaths, trying to lower her heart pace a bit. It was beating so rapidly she was afraid the other girl could hear it.
It was times like these that she was happy to be fit and work out. If it meant she could save a life, she would keep doing it forever more.

You came and saved me tonight Defending all my lifeNow I'm content with my breathe Cuz I'm alive. Laci was a complete fail, and she was fully aware of it. Her sister reminded her of it constantly, her brother on the other hand didn't mention it as much. Her friends, well, what friends really? Her sister scared them all away. The few friends that she had seemed amused by it. Laci's clumsiness did seem to get her into a fair share of awkward situations, or dangerous and life threatening ones like this. Dangling hundreds of feet above solid ground wasn't her idea of a perfect way to end the day, her robe threatening to rip with every second.
A hand reached down and Laci flailed around trying to grasp hold of it. As their fingers locked, the last pieces of black thread snapped. The girl's life flashed before her eyes. All of the times she had spent with her sister, both good and bad, the few times she had spent with her brother and Ethan, her parents arguing with Gemma, the vampire child threatening her life, all of the blood shed that night, watching an innocent man get his heart ripped out, laying on the floor drinking by herself and her sister walking in telling her how pathetic she was, everything flickered in and out of her mind as she began her descent.
The person trying to save her reached down farther, grabbing Laci and sliding her back over the sill into the tower. The blonde squeezed her eyes shut as it was happening, not able to bare the thought of watching her own death. She opened her eyes as she flopped onto her rescuer, their faces less than inches away. The blonde's pale cheeks blushed rosy pink as her blue eyes looked directly into the other girl's eyes. A complete stranger had just saved her life and she would be forever grateful. Sudden realization hit the girl that she was straddling the stranger. "Asdfghjkl," she spazzed and rolled off her, scrambling to sit up. "Thanks," Laci said as she nervously ran her fingers through her soaking wet, blonde hair, "for yanno, not letting me fall to my death." A small smile tugged at the corners of her mouth, curling her soft, pink lips. Laci's nerves got to her head, "I'm sorry you had to do that. Risking your life and all. I'm such a klutz, you know. If I wasn't such a fail, I wouldn't have fallen in the first place. I was just daydreaming, but I guess it's not really daydreaming anymore because it's night time. Maybe it was a hallucination? Maybe what my sister told me was true. Maybe I do belong in St. Mungos Psych Ward and not around normal withces and wizards. But those people scare me a lot, well a lot of things scare me like-," Laci cut herself off as soon as she realized that she was rambling about nonsense. That was how she got when she was alone with strangers or drunk. Ever since her abduction, she was nervous and shaky all the time and couldn't be alone anywhere. The girl was a wreck. She looked at her hero with apologetic eyes, "My name is Laci, by the way."

It was not often that Vera's heart was pounding as much as it was right now. The girl had given her quite a fright. She was glad she had gotten her up over the edge and as they fell to the ground, the girl fell on top of her and Vera choked back a blush. That hadn't happened in a while, having a girl on top of her. She shook that though from her head as her eyes locked with the beautiful blue orbs looking back at hers. She smiled gingerly and then the girl scrambled off of her muttering nonsense words and then thanking her. Vera sat up a bit, propping herself up on her hands behind her on the cold rocky floor. She nodded quickly and shortly and was about to say you're welcome when the girl went into a tangent about how she didn't have to do what she did. How she risked her life for her, how she was day dreaming... or did she say hallucinating? The girl was going so quickly, Vera's head was spinning a bit.
She smiled as the girl stopped and then introduced herself, an apologetic look on her face, as Laci. Vera smiled brightly and got up quickly. She nodded. "You need not apologize. We all have day dreams, regardless of what time of day it is. I'm just glad I heard you shriek before you fell..." She peeked out the window and to the ground. "That would have been quite the fall..." she looked at the small blonde in front of her. She definitely was cute, but that would be best saved for another time. It was always hard to tell with most girls around here which way they rolled.... and some of the girls she had met that said they were gay were really just posing to get guys interested and never did more than make out with Vera. Sad to say girls were doing that when they couldn't commit to be one sexual orientation or the other. She offered a light smile as she brushed her hair, with her fingers, back into place. "My name is Vera."

You came and saved me tonight Defending all my lifeNow I'm content with my breathe Cuz I'm alive. Laci slid over the wall and flopped onto the girl that had saved her. She opened her eyes, their noses were barely an inch apart from one another’s, her legs straddling the girl, sitting on her hips. Laci’s palms were flat against the cold concrete floor, the breeze sent chills up her spine. It took a moment to realize the position she was sitting in and how it was completely inappropriate. The blonde scuttled off of her, sitting Indian style a few feet away.
Laci blushed when her savior mentioned her shriek, a rosy red color faded onto the skin of her cheeks. “I’m glad too,” she said with a nervous chuckle. Laci twirled a thin lock of curly, blonde hair around her fingers. “I’ve fallen before, but never from that far up. Of course I’ve been pushed before as well, but that’s a whole new story…” she cut herself off there recognizing that she was about to go off on another one of her tangents again. There was definitely something wrong with her. Maybe muggle ADHD or something of the sorts, but her parents refused to believe it, or even test for it. It would be unacceptable to have an imperfect child in the Ackerley household, hence, why her older sister was given the boot.
The blonde nodded gently, a smile curled her deep pink lips when she learned that the other girl’s name was Vera. “Thank you, Vera, I really owe you one. If there’s anything I can do for you, just ask,” Laci spoke thankfully. She was alive and had been saved from falling to her death. Not many strangers would have done that for her. They all would have just pretended that they didn’t hear the cry that shocked the air and would have kept walking, but not Vera. She was kind and brave enough to stop and save her. She was a hero.
